2002 total char count announced, time to make your roster cuts

So 2K2 has 35 chars... let's say they have 8 4-person teams and 3 edit chars (knowing Eolith the midboss and boss are in the 35 count). Presuming that there are 2 teams in 2K2 that were not in 2K1 (hopefully Real Bout and New Face), what 4-8 teams from 2K1 do you merge/cut?

2K1 teams:
1. Orignal NESTS
2. New NESTS
3. Iori
4. Japan
5. Fatal Fury
6. AOF
7. Korea
8. Psycho
9. Women
10. Ikari

Here's mine:
1. Merge Psycho/Ikari (toss Chin,Bao,Heidern,Clark)
2. Merge old/new NESTS (toss Maxima,Foxy,etc)
3. Merge Women/Iori (keep Vanessa)
4. Cut AOF?!

I don't want to cut AOF... but how else to make room? The future of KOF depends on cutting the chars that aren't evolving and developing the unexplored chars, so you need at least one NESTS team, and keep chars like Vanessa. My biggest fear is that we'll have almost the exact same roster as before (ie only 1 team different from 2K1)... so it looks like AOF gets cut unless there are 36+ chars. We can't cut Korea (duh), and I don't like cutting Seth and Ramon. Maybe Japan gets cut instead of AOF... (Kyo, Beni, and Goro treated 2K1 like their last hurrah)

Remember, now that 2K2 is a dream match the storyline is frozen, so the Shingo / Saisyu storyline does not need to take place until 2K3!

Why? Yuri's already on the Women's Team, right? You'd have to cut Hinako and Xiang Fei to make room for King and Vanessa though.

The women team I want to see are Athena, Yuri, Leona, and Mai. Been wanting to see that since 99 came up with 4 person teams.

Am I the only one who likes Hinako? Sure, she's a lil' small for a sumo, but she can be a real beast if you play her right. Guess ppl don't like her because she doesn't look "cool" or "deadly".

As for Xiang Fei... I say, fight with her against Shingo in 2k1, and you will have the fastest fight you ever have seen in a KoF game. She's a combo monster.

I like Hinako and play quite a bit of her. But it's difficult to cut King in favor of her. Maybe I should reconsider... King hasn't changed much since '99, but Hinako is a new and evolving character.

How 'bout 2K1 throw into wire, then super out of the air? Some ppl I was playing with found an even better setup in 2K, I think it was a combo into Blue Mary striker... but whatever striker it was, the combo ended with the body being thrown across the screen, and Hinako dashing into a throw super to make up the distance. Looked funny as hell!

As far as Xiangfei goes... I have her basic 2K1 candy combo which is C, A+C super, kick super (stupid damage), but no true setups, flow, or rushdown yet. My feelings on the char are mixed, if you're going to put a Newcomer in the game then why not Rick???

Yep, I like the wire attack system, for ex. Robert's close hcb+K, which I follow up with a Haiga Ryuu (qcfx2+P) or a simple Ryuuga (f,d,df+P). Quite deadly, but a little unbalanced at times, specially the counter wires who take away nearly half of the lifebar.

And Xiang Fei... I like her (specially her face if time runs out and you have less energy than your opponent...), she's quick and has a very good punch technique, not to mention her cool 100 hit DM (qcbx2+K) if you can grab an opponent before you fire it off.

I don't really care if they cut old teams and characters since they've already been in another KOF that i could go and play instead. I want new and fresh characters.

Rick strowd would be great thought. Xiang fei is in KOF so why shouldnt he be there to?

Isn't the striker system supposed to be gone this year? Well, if that rumor holds true, then you'd get 11 three-person teams, and 2 bosses.

why only 35 that sucks i wish they could use like 55 that would leave plenty of room for new chars, and all the teams. why cut the aof team they should tweak it a little make a new team called the masters team featuring takuma chin kim and jhun. and the aof should have ryo robert john crawley and eiji. that way you can put jae hoon and dong whan on the kora team. and make the psycho soldier team merge with vanessa and seth. drop some chars that were new in 2k/2k1 like that sumo girl. the female fighters should be king, mai, yuri, and mary. the fatal fury team should be terry, andy, joe, and duck king. shingo should be with his team from 99 except take k' from there and replace him with daimon. k' should be with kyo k9999 and some other clone i dunno whip. i guess that way the ikari team can have ralf clark heidern and leona. nests team i dont know they're a wild card to me. and then new teams there should be a second fatal fury team starring cheng, bob, geese, and krauser. and a team of all new characters. like a hobo team of people who used to work for nests but are now jobless people who have learned the assorted moves and fighting styles from programming them into the clones.

only 8 teams i would have assumed there would be more charecters than that since 98 had a total of 57 charecters.

Good point... presuming the new system doesn't tag in the 4th character or anything wacky like that. We know that Lin's team will be coming along sooner or later, and that is already 4 ppl. Maybe I should think up a 3-person list just in case... I'll assume that storyline for Lin and Shingo will continue, but that probably won't happen until 2003.

Damn the character limit... both Fatal Fury and AOF could have 2 3-char teams easy. I couldn't work Joe or Angel into this one, also would like Vice, Yamazaki, and Billy Kane in there. Chitto from Lin's team is on the sidelines, and King booted Hinako yet again. Maybe if Ryo can knock up King, Hinako can keep her spot in the Women's team.

BTW, the point of this thread is not prediction or recommendation as much as "fantasy football KOF." Who do you add, who do you cut, and why?

Whats the point of having a "dreammatch" if you cant add almost all the characters you want. I say bring back almost every kof character to date. And bring some new ones from other places like Duck King, and some other characters maybe some from AoF3 or some from Fatal Fury 3. And why not bring in Jeff Bogard.

As long as Team China stays the same as it ALWAYS been since KOF '94, I will be quite happy. If they have to cut anyone from that team, let it be Bao. Chin, Kensou & Athena are all I ask for... anything else is just icing on the cake.

Why they haven't use Duck King, Tung Fu Rue, Cheng Sinzan or Jubei Yamada yet is beyond me...

Where did you hear the # of characters to be in the game? I'm really friggin happy to hear that they're cutting it down, this means they HAVE to be adding animations to it! Sweet!

I can't really come up w/ new teams but I can tell you this:

Fuck the Ikari team, fuck them and everyone who looks like them. They can go to hell.

Dump: Bao, Chin, Chang, Choi.

Re-arrange as necessary.

God 2k2 is going to be sweet!!!

From the info released by Eolith, as translated on the Madman's Cafe (I think the announcement is pasted at the beginning of that long-ass 2002 thread in News). It actually says 35 to 40 now (it said 35 or more at first), but I'm using the lowest possible number here and guessing that there will be 35.

Come to think of it, the teaser image released by Eolith has Kyo, Goro, and Benimaru in it (none of whom need to return IMHO).

My point exactly. I think they only showed 3 people because there will be no 4 person teams this year. Now, for the Lin team, what if one of them doesn't fight?

Also from the ending of the AOF team ( when they saved Robert only for his money ), maybe he won't be with the AOF Team this year.

Since the Seth, Vanessa, Iori, and Ramon Team ending suggests that they were going to attempt to beat Iori, my guess is he beat them all, and he won't be on their team next year.
