Hey, I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I have just powered up my FFWA hyper board and all of a sudden Li Xianfei and Geese have appeared.

How do you trigger this, coz im afraid once I switch the game it may not happen again

Do these boards have the DATE and or a TIME system on it like MVS? If so I say check your boards settings....this might trigger their release...
BTW I LOVE XIANGFEI! GEESE is cool but RYO on the PSX version is too awsome!!
I may have to get a Hyper board in the future!

This has happened to me too. It was when my board was powered on and off rapidly about 10 times.

She might be out for good, since I havn't taken Samurai 2 out in a long time to see on mine

Im new to the neo 64 and it has to be said that it f*cking rocks.

Just out of curiosity, is it worth getting Samurai Shodown 64, first one. I have the second, and in comparison to Buriki One and FFWA is seems quite sketchy. Does this mean the first is worse?

The first one was much better than the second, but that's really not saying much at all.

The first one was not better than the second. Ex-andy must be a DoA fan.

Oh yeah, and it is worth it to buy the first SS64 game. You probably won't enjoy it as much, but it'll be pretty entertaining.

You don't get Asura or Taisan, and the Enja Kazuki and Suija Sogetsu characters aren't existing either - just the normal type kazuki and sogetsu. But Hanzo does have his multipart throws

I like DoA, but I like SS: Asura Zanmaden better. Samurai Tamashi (SS64) offers the stage within a stage, like DoA2, where you can knock a player out of an area. Best instance of this is Genjuro's stage, where you're knocked through the wall of some house into a town while it's raining. There are many other great ones, like Hanzo's stage, where you can keep going down one floor to the next. Shiki's stage starts innocent, like the inside of a temple, but drops you into a spooky underground lair. The final stages (deku/dekuina) are a little annoying, as you can get knocked off and thusly killed, but it can work to advantage as well. I recommend the game, but honestly, you'd have to be a fan of the series to digest it properly.

Damn, this again. There is a way to get the board to release Xiangfei, I think you had to win the game with every character and then hold something like D and Start when choosing Geese. This was driving everyone in the forum nuts for awhile because we had the Japanese instructions for this process but no one could translate them. The pics of the instructions are still sitting on my web page, here's the links if you're curious.

nooooo we know how to get her, were talking about finding a way to keep her up, since the hyper losses all memory for a game when you switch out carts.

No, not quite. The first game was much closer to the 2D games in terms of both presentation, characters, and most importantly, control. That's not to say the first game had good control, because it didn't. But it had better control than the second game.

The second game had terrible control and horrendous pacing--doing practically anything caused your character to wobble around in extra frames of lag animation... really poorly-animated frames of lag. I remember being infuriated, honest-to-god infuriated, at just how bad the control was.

The second game relied much more on polygonal special effects too, and since the SS dev team clearly didn't know a damn thing about 3D graphics at the time, they generally looked horrible (at least the first game's POW specials had the 2-D portraits popping in from the side, which was almost exactly like XvsSF, but looked better than those crappy polygonal effects). Also, the new characters in the 2nd game really didn't add anything. Kazuki? Same-as-last-time-but-more-evil Shiki? Super-evil Asura? Give me a break.

I don't know where or how you'd ever tie DOA into this, but I don't care for that game at all. As for the SS64 games, they really just shouldn't have happened.

Maybe just never gave the hyper games a chance. How much did you play the two hyper SS games?

See, The Hyper SS games are a smooth progression from the AES versions. For the most part, the hyper games are dark, just as SS3 and 4 were.

The control I found to be very good in the second, but a bit obnoxious in the first with the "energy" meter.

Now, if you didn't like the characters in SS64 2, there's no helping you. Refering to the characters as a more evil Shiki or a more evil Asura is ignorant at best. The Bust versions were completely different. Bust Asura's attacks didn't look half as menacing as the Slash version's, almost like he was "softer" than his alter ego. Shiki's bust version was a lot more sexual than her Slash version, which came off as frigid.

Everything about these characters was superior to their past incarnations. And if you can neglect the SCS combo system, it plays with a similar tempo to the first SS game, relying more on timing and distancing.

Sure, the 3D wasn't up to industry standards. Sure, the pace is slower than Tekken or DoA. I don't care; it didn't have to meet mainstream standards for me. The game excelled past either of those two games - SS64 2 had soul, a feat neither Tekken nor DoA can claim.

Of course, I don't know how many people who frequently post to the hyper section argue with me. Maybe you're too old for this section, ASP?

The samurai showdown games have never really been a fav of mine. I always get tempted into picking galford coz he looks cool, then regreting it 3 fights later as I hit the continue button. Mind you, the sword "ching-ching" effects are great...its a samurai shodown trademark for me
