I got a Hyper 64 motherboard a few weeks ago brand new off E-bay and I have not set it up yet because I don't have my cabinet finished yet and I have not gotten my games yet either. Well it came with two harnesses for 5+ and ground and one for stereo. Do these harnesses have to be used along with the JAMMA harness or can you just use the JAMMA harness by its self and not have to use these other harnesses?

Just a quick note I think the guy who was selling the motherboards for $55.00 bucks a few weeks ago on E-bay still has a few left, but I am not sure.

I may be wrong, but it looks like you can get mono sound off just a Jamma harness. Use the other wiring for getting Stereo.

I am not positive, but that is the way it seems to me.

Do you know if I have to use the 5+ as well as the JAMMA harness? Is it required for board operation?

I don't know. There is a manual here:

http://membres.lycos.fr/darkskyz/

But it does not really say that you have to have both or not. Can anybody else clear this up?

Well, I can only speak from my own experience and that is based upon having one of the Japanese, JAMMA versions of the board.

By JAMMA version, I mean that my board has no connections to it other than the JAMMA harness. And has sound. Only the 2nd generation, Japanese boards have this type of connection. Also, I should note, it appears to be stereo as well.

My board, when in use, is plugged into an old, red style MVS cabinet that is equiped with stereo and provides such for my MVS, 4 slot board via the harness. Evidently, the JAMMA style Hyper board is set up for the same stereo outs as my 4 slot board as the stereo element is quite obvious when playing SS64: 2.

So, after that long winded explanation, is your board a North American board or is it a Japanese, totally JAMMA type board? It souds like a North American board, yes?

I got one of those boards and it was North American, so I'm guessing you got the same one. I'm hooked up through a supergun and I couldn't get sound no matter how I changed my settings.

Because I ran into a situation where I had two sets of Hyper Neo 64 boards and wiring for each, I did a little experiment. I got some of the cheap R+/- L+/- speakers. I cut the tip off of the speaker wires (the brown, pink, black, grey one) and plugged them in the right +/- spaces. It tells in the manual where each one goes. I got stereo sound--sounds great too! I haven't achieve mono stereo though. I have no idea about the red and black cables though, because I'm running from a supergun, the Hyper Neo draws power from that.

I have a North American Board. I e-mailed a guy who is selling one on ebay and asked him if you need to use the included harnesses and this is what he said....
The game does have its instruction manual, that tell what every wires is and where they go.
This is how to hook it up.

1. leave your Jamma connector hooked up the way it is.(It's hooked to the power supply, coin door, control penal, and monitor)
2. Connect the jamma to the game.
3. The 2 red wires (you can see them in my picture under the jamma, next to the volume control knob) haft to be hooked up to the power supplies +5volt. (The jamma connector is still hooked up to the power supple too)
4. The 2 black wires (under the red wires) haft to be hooked up to the power supplies ground.
5. Take the wires that are on your speaker now, off
6. The 4 wires, next to the red & black wires are for your speakers.(you can see them in my picture)
7. The pink wire and black wire under it, is for your right speaker. pink wire is +.
8. The brown wire and black wire under it, is for your left speaker. brown wire is +.
9. That is it.

That is what he told me so when I get a chance I am going to try it that way.

Thanks for linking to me Briggs :D

I have asked Jeff from Vektorlogic when I bought my board and games from him and he assured me that the newest boards that have jamma connectors don't need extra sound connecting. Maybe he was wrong but I set mine JAMMA only and I get (I am pretty sure) stereo sound. Please let use know if your trick allows to get better sound.

Reading back in the thread, I agree RyoGeo, only oldest non-jamma boards NEED external sound wiring in fact, mine is JAMMA and don't even provide any wire plug designed for sound output reffering to the manual I have on my website

Anyway, this has to be cleared guys, any of you have the opportunity to experiment ?

A true Jamma harness will never give you Stereo sound.

You might get Mono out of both speakers, but only if your cabinet is wired that way.

The Jamma standard is Mono only. Stereo is achieved by switching the harness to something like a MVS harness, or using an external sound harness.

Retrogamer what problems are you having with your board? According to the manual the 5+ harness is the main power connection. I asked someone who had a hyper 64 board and he said that you had to hook up the Jamma harness as well as the 5+ harness and his board worked great setup that way. Hope this helps.

I just got a new Hyper Neo board today and this model doesnt come with the 5+ or the GRND wires . this model works completely off of the Jamma harness .

Belive it or not even the sound comes off the jamma , very hassle free .
