I'm sure many of you will laugh at my naivity, but what the bloody hell is a Hyper Neo Geo 64? I had a Neo Geo CD (which I sold), and I have a Neo Geo Home Cart system. I bought Fatal Fury Wild Ambition and Samurai Shodown Warrior's Rage for PSX, and heard they were conversions of the Hyper Neo Geo versions of the games. I've never seen this system in any arcade, and I've only seen the hardware once on EBay. What exactly is (or was, from the way it sounds in this forum) the Hyper Neo Geo 64? And does it warrant a purchase?

The Hyper64 is the follow up machine to SNKs MVS system. Well it was not successful.
There are three different mainboards. One for fighting, racing and...umm forgot
Only the fighting Board is of interest cause it has got the biggest number of available games (4).
The system mainly uses 3D to run the games and 2D for Backgrounds, art and menus. The resolution has been set to ~640x480 i guess, cause the MVS' resolution was really outdated.
The four fighting games are:
FatalFury wild ambition, SamuraiSpirits64, SamuraiSpiritsWarriorsRage2 (aka SS64-2) and Buriki One.
The 3D power of the system was not up to date when it was released so because of this this, and the fact that SNK avoided any advertisement for the system, the Hyper64 had to fail.
I'm sad about this cause the Hyper was a great system. The 4 fighting games have excellent gameplay and superior atmosphere.
Right now the Hyper64 can be optained for a very low price.
There are conversions for the PSX, but they're no match for the originals, since the gfx and gameplay has been lowered to sub-standard.

What do you need to run the board as far as equiptment (i.e. mvs cabinet type thing...)?

I bought a Hyper 64 board and the four games. If you already have an SNK, MVS cabinet, all you need to do is plug the H64 board into your JAMMA harness, and play away. The only additional thing you would need to do is wire a "test" button on pin 15 of your JAMMA harness. The Dedicated SNK, MVS cabinets did not use pin 15 as their test button pin (which is JAMMA standard), so in order to get into the menus on the H64 board, you need to wire a switch or button to this pin. The good news is, pin 15 is blank on the SNK, MVS cabinet, si it is a simple matter of adding a couple wires to your JAMMA harness and putting a button between them.

What's Buriki One? A new game, or the renaming and repackaging into 3D of an old one?

Buriki One is a new game. It has really cool and very different Gameplay. You have to check out for yourself. It's not as cool as SamuraiSpirits (atmosphere), but it has very good gameplay. There are no "unrealistic" specials like Fireballs and so on in the game. It is designed to be a more realistic game. It takes a long time before you'll master it, but then you've got a fantastic martial arts fighting game with uncomparable gameplay.

Where would I go about finding a copy of Buriki One? I've found a board for cheap, and I'm considering buying it, but I've NEVER seen Buriki One, and you're mention of it eariler was the first I've heard of it.

You're telling me... like I said before, the first I heard of it was a conversion to PSX. I've never seen a real Hyper Neo Geo 64 in an aracde or anywhere.

A hyper is a really impressive system when you see it for the first time. The carts are really big (more than twice the size of a MVS cart) and their completely made of metal.
The system is really heavy (8 kilos or so) and is also completely out of metal.
Besides the mainboard nothing is plastic-made. Everything looks like it could easily resist a meteor crash.

The dedicated Hyper64 cab also looks cool, but nothing special here.

I can only recommend the Hyper64 again and again, because it's a really exclusive system with oustanding gameplay. And right now it can be obtained for a low price

But hwere to get one is the question... also, I'm concentrating on building my AES collection right now, and I don't have the extra money to get the MVS cabinet and Hyper board...

I've got exactly the same problem here.
I want to build up a (hopefully one day) complete AES collection, but I also want a Hyper64, cause one day vektorlogic will be out of stock and then it'll be damn hard to get your hands on a hyper.

Yup!! They're based int eh UK. Other distributors may have them, but you won't get as good a deal as your'e getting from vektorlogic.

Actually vektorlogic bought every single Hyper SNK had left in their warehouses and now they sell them for 1000s of dollars below the original price!
They're trustworthy and deliver really fast.

By the by... Besides the 4 fighting games, did any other games come out? It was mentioned earlier that there was a board for fighting, another for racing, and another for something else. Were any games put out for these other two boards?

I have spent about 46 solid hours of research finding all I could about the Hyoer64. The system baord has been created for three types of play. Fighting style, this is the only type ever been sold, Racing (car) style, and also Light Gun, for games like house of the dead.. again it was never released.
The total count of games is four. I my research there has been talk about hidden GAMES with in a game. But this still has not been proven.
Hope that helps.

From the little bit of information I was able to translate out of, its more like a "test" it test the 3D,2D, and joystick-buttons. How to get into it, and is there anything more about it.. I'm still not sure.
but, im always on the hunt.
