If i get a hyper 64 board and games, how do you hook the board up. Is it a jamma? Can I use one of my 25" 4 slot machines and simply plug the power supply up to it then the wires to the controls, etc. please help. I have two neo mvs 25" cab's near mint i love them but i also want a hyper 64 system. There is a JAMMA compatible version of the board that is out there. It is the later, Japanese board and yes, with the exception of having to wire a JAMMA test button, it is totally plug and play. As it is, your multi slot cab will play the games no problem. However, should you want to gain access to the dip menus in the games, you will need to wire a test button to pin 15 of your JAMMA harness.

Well, I have a hyper board. I'm going to guess that it's the later version. I get sound just fine (and in the case of Warrior's Rage, great!). Though, I do have a ton of external ports with nothing hooked up to them...? I'm guessing in the earlier version of the board, you would have to hook up the control panel and speakers to them.

Forever' you are correct. The older Hyper boards needed to have additional conections for sound. The newer, Japanese, JAMMA compatible board has sound directly on the JAMMA harness. When I plug my Hyper 64 into the harness of my older, stand up, 4 slot cab (the red kind) everything works perfectly except the prior mentioned test access.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks, so should i buy a hyper neo board and put it in my red neo 4 slot cab. If so who should i buy from and should i get the newer type or the older type. If i buy from someone will they know if they are selling me the on that i need, so i can have sound. And last question, is there somewhere i can get instructions on what plugs from the cab goes where and if i have to adjust the power supply. thanks again....what games should i get....

Hey Jeff,

My suggestion is to buy from vektorlogic.com. That is where I bought mine from. My guess is that he will send you a new model board, as he did with me (just ask, I'm sure he will accomadate you well).

As for games, I only have experience playing Warrior's Rage. It's an excellent game (in my top 5 for fighters). Vektorlogic has Buriki One, Wild Ambition, SS1, and SS2 for sale. You can get 3 games and a motherboard for 300$ (honestly, I think that's a bit steep). There was also a racing game, and a lightgun game, but those are dedicated carts (only work with a certain motherboard... and the motherboard only works with them). I believe there were 2 other games as well.

I can recommend SS64 2: Warrior's Rage.

There were only 4 games produced for the regular Hyper 64 boards (not including the driving and shooting titles). Of those games, from what I've heard, SS642: Warriors Rage is the best game; the others are not nearly as good. I've contemplated buying a Hyper several times over the years, but decided it isn't worth it . . . I'd rather have old school 2D (Neo MVS/home cart, Saturn, etc.), or new-school 3D (Dreamcast and XBox). The Hyper, to me, fits in neither category and isn't worth it . . . just my opinion.

The hyper is standard Jamma, it will work in ANY jamma cab (the 4th button is the SAME pin as on an MVS board).

It does use stereo sound, so as long as you have 2 speakers, you will get sound easily (this is thru an external connector).

It's worth it if you like fighting games, namely Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown, if you don't care for either of those, don't get it.

Read my reviews of the games:

Well, not quite, Drift. Read my posts above. I don't want anyone to get confused.
