Played SS64 2: Warriors Rage

Hey all,

I finally got to play the game. I was disapointed by the frame rate, but was impressed by how fluid the motion was (if that makes sense). For instance, if your character was turned the wrong way, and you did a slash, your character would gracefully slash and turn at the same time... it looked nice, but I would have liked it to run faster. (The Super Nova system I was playing it on was kinda messed up as well... no sound... joysticks not too responsive). The stages were done nicely... the dark ones were dark and scary, the bright ones felt blissful. There were also some nice animation between battles. I really would have liked to hear the music to this game. I only got to play the game for a solid hour... so I can't make too many judgements on it (although I did keep on playing... even after I told myself "last match"... so it has to be decent), but I definitely think for a game made relatively early (if they were still making games today) in developement, the system definitely showed promise enough for some great 3D titles, and magnificent 2D games. It's a shame-

Ok, I agree that the overall speed is not Tekken 3 - but don't hold it against the game!

Did you adjust the sound form the hyper motherboard?

There are two kinds of volume switches for the two kinds of hyper neo geo mothers - one is a round knob that sticks out horizontally, and the other is the round disk that's vertically placed on the board. Make sure you use that volume <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

The music is very very good when you get to the later stages. Also, certain characters (Taisan, Genjuro, Galford, Nak, Rimmy) only let you hear their music when you fight in versus mode.

Please be nice to bust hanzo - he has the highest learning curve of any character in any game that I have played. Personally, I think this is the best incarnation of Hanzo you will ever find.

The sound didn't work because the super nova system I was playing on was messed up...

I'm curious though... If this game was a bit slow, how much slower was the first one (and it had worse graphics?)!

actually, the game speeds are on par with each other. The first one had it's own share of unique nuances that made it different (and a little of an acquired taste). For instance, you had a power meter and an energy meter. The energy meter would drain by dashing, jumping, doing special moves, etc. When it hit zero you'd be dizzied. Makes sense, but not really at the rate you'd get dizzy - too fast. This inspires a slower game; probably intended by the programmers to cover the intrinsic problems in game speed.

But the first was still very cool. Lots of brush stroke art, good textures, great music (Shiki, Deku/Dekuina, Yuga), and awesome stages (genjuro, hanzo, shiki). I really like the hyper SS games. The good faq on gamefaqs is mine.

Actually, you have Warriors Rage/Asura Zanmaden. If you even like it a little, I highly suggest giving Samurai Tamashii (SS64) a chance. It's a really excellent game IMO - but then, I'm crazy and like all the games people trash.
