I received King of Fighters 99 and Metal Slug 3 from NCS - wooohooo I can't wait! But then I hear that the US DC version of KOF 99 is out already!!! Am I fool for having paid $170 for a cart when I could have paid only $29.99 for an exact replica (maybe even better) on GD-rom? I appreciate any and all feedback from you guys - the experienced gamers of this forum. I have Dream Match already and planned to get Evolution in the future.

Oops, one more question. Should I shell out the dough for King of Fighters 2000 and be poor, or save my money and enjoy my two recently acquired carts over the winter break? Winter break...how long I waited for thee.

I have never had a Neo Geo experience at home, but my expectations are very high after spending the last month and a half on this forum.

Well, I don't think you waste your money. Actually I have DC KOF99 Evolution long time ago (JPN version) and I was looking at Neo Cart KOF 99 from NCS website for two days because I want to own that cart version. It looks really cool but finally I gave up and NCS has sold out the KOF99 inventory at the time. Each version has advantages and disadvantages:

DC (advantages): Price range, sound, 3D background at begining of each round, can hardly see any loading between rounds
(disadvanges): CD will scratch easily, dont' look like it's a collectable item

Neo Cart (advantages): no loading time, heavy weight, will not scratch and last longer.
(disadvantages): price range, price range and price range

If you want to get rid of your KOF 99 Cart, just let me know.

The Orginal is always the best. Dream match 99 is KoF98 and KoF99 evolution is the closest you can get to the real deal (koF 99).

That's why I cancelled my order, I decided to get KoF2K instead of 99. I already had KoF99 evolution on my DC. I kinda wanted the Neo Geo cart and was surprised it was not a US cart so I decided to cancel.

Decisions for buying Neo Geo are a hard to make sometimes, a happy Neo Geo Fan or a empty pocket. You decide.

If your not sure save your money. As for me I'm getting a copy of King of Fighters 2000 so that I can trade it for some of the rarer carts that I. If I can't do that I'll just list it on ebay.

You made the right choice by buying the home cart. If you have a home cart version of kof 98 or cd,and you have kof 99( dc version) hook both of them up to your tv. The neo version on video 1 and the dc version on video 2. Flip between video input and you can see a huge difference, the neo is far superoir( assuming you have svideo mod) and the sprites ( character size) are much larger. But it depends how picky you are as for me, I will only play my neo and dc for that matter on an rgb........NEONUT

I had both the KOF99 and KOF99E for the DC, and also KOF99 for the NeoGeo. I bought KOF99E after I'd bought the original version. I must say that I don't like the 3D bit in the game. KOF is 2D at it's best and doesn't need 3D to make it a better game. But if it's a money thing; go for KOF99 on the DC (not KOF99E), as it has an INCREDIBLE intro. KOF99E is just a very cheaply done conversion (both the intro and ending pictures are the same as on the Neo).
Gameplay-wise; I find the DC joypad very good to play KOF (actually better than the Neo pad).I think the Neo pad sucks.
But that's just my opinion.

Even DC's KOF99 has incredible intro, but game play sux, loading sux. Unlike previous version, KOF 99E is better than KOF99. Awesome 3D and almost no loading time. Cool...

I thought having KOF Evolution for DC was enough, but I am getting KOF 99 Home cart soon too--I have no idea, why.

Both are great, though. You can't go wrong w/ either one or both.

Finally, no more "aged Neo lord". I hated that title

Thanks for the feedback guys. What about my second question - Should I shell out the dough for King of Fighters 2000 and be poor, or save my money and enjoy my two recently acquired carts over the winter break?

And one more thing. I was pleasantly surprised to find 2 inserts for my Metal Slug 3. Is this a common phenomenon?

Just be poor and get KOF 2000 if you have chance. I just spent $$ for my second Neo Cart system. No money to buy any game now....:<

I received my Neo Geo package (gold american system) today! It was in mint condition, with 2 controllers, with box and instructions, memory card (complete), and two mint games: Magician Lord and Burning Fight (Dog Tag).

I never realized that Magician Lord and Burning fight was so old school-I think some snes games look better! Nonetheless, the real anticipation lay in King of Fighters 99 and Metal slug 3. I popped those in and they look cool. But the King of Fighters 99 wasn't spectacular; not representative of its price. I was expecting pure 2D goodness, but there were jagged edges, and pixelation (slight)! I thought Neo Geo was a 2D monster! I would have been content with my DC and agetec arcade stick, KOF 99, and 99E.

Maybe I expected way too much, and playing the two old school games dampened my spirits. Or maybe Neo Geo is way over-hyped. I'll play with the system for the next week to see if I may have prematurely jumped to conclusion.

I paid $440 for the Neo Geo package. And I got MS3 and KoF 99 from NCS for $330 and $170 respectively. I think I paid too much!

It depends on how you connect your system, Svideo is much better than composite and you can forget about RF.

You will have to send it to Jeff Kurtz to have it modified. He can add an extra connection from the back. Also stereo connection and mod chip. This way you can use the Svideo and rca cable that can be purchased anywhere. Ask Jeff for details.

BakuretsuMutekiSid, about the jagged edges appear on tv , rememmber the neo is made for a rbg with a 25" screen, any larger and the pixels get disstorted even on rgb. I assume you are using composite, which sucks. The neo geo on rgb is the best way to appreciate how good the 2d is. But s-video is a close alternative, but rgb is the best hands down...........NEONUT

I forgot my tv doesn't have S-video input. I'm using a Samsung gxtv "13 inch for all my gaming needs. That tv is awesome for video games. EB had a $50 coupon for it (part of the Dreamcast coupon book for those who preordered). It fits just right in my room, and you can't beat the speakers! For my neo geo, I'm using the a/v cables that came with it (white and yellow).

Neonut brought up an important option - rgb. But I don't know what it stands for or what it is. I don't like the idea of modding my systems. Though I wish MS3 displayed blood!

The thing is, the Neo Geo is truly an aquired taste. This is specially true, if you didn't play it from before in the "old school" days. Play the games and if you learn the ways of Neo, you will find that nothing really can compare to what the Neo brings to the table. Its just the ease of how the games are presented, believe me. Personally, I remember one of the things that I always loved about the Neo when I first saw it was the sound. MAN! When someone would get hit with a roundhouse in say, AOF2, you knew it! Awesome sound effects, those SNK battle crys are the best. Anyways, enough drifting... enjoy the games.
