Taken from Madman's

Korean software publisher Eolith Co. Ltd, has announced to have acquired the license under Playmore Co. to develop "The King Of Fighters 2001" for the PC platform.

The King Of Fighters 2001 was originally developed by Eolith for the Arcade MVS platform through license by SNK, prior to SNK's bankruptcy. SNK's intellectual assets are currently properties of Playmore.

The King Of Fighters 2001 for the PC will include all of the features from the original arcade version, and is also scheduled to include additional character(s) and motion images (*1).

Eolith CEO Jeon Ju-Young comments that The King Of Fighters 2001 for the PC is targeted for release in mid-2002, sales aimed at 4 Billion Won (approximately 3 Million$ US).

That really is great news from a gamer's standpoint. I already have my aes copy preordered, but I will probably pick this up too if there is actually anything added(probably a fmv ala dream match on DC and the ability to play as igniz). That probably means a korean import though, I really doubt Eolith will bother publishing it in the US. I can't really blame them if they didn't, despite the clamoring for a fighting game in the US pc scene, I can already hear the idiots saying "This looks like a super nintendo game!" or "I'll wait for it to be emulated." <img src="graemlins/mad2.gif" border="0" alt="[Mad 2]" />
Anyway, kudos to eolith for letting the neo fans without a neo get a chance to play this at home.

Strange how people badly want a pc release of Neo games...

... Aren't you already playing them on emulators?

Hakkun, a native PC port can't be compared to dumps of Neo games, at least not technically.

That's great! I hope it works out well for Eolith. I wonder what the new characters will be? hmm...

I don't know, computer people don't want this I would think. Might do well in other countries.

I just want it on my Neo, that's all I know. :p

I guess PC game sales are still strong in asia.... I can't imagine trying to sell a PC game, much less a 2d fighting game on the PC in the states.

I suppose this makes the x-box version a no brainer.

This thread is awesome, it's great news AND I see representations of 2 Stupid Dogs, Ren and Stimpy, AND The Punisher. This actually made my day. ^_^

Anyways Punisher, Fatal Fury 3 and SS2 got US PC released. KoF: Evolution also got an Asian PC release. Interplay, being amazing, RE-released the FF3/SS2 PC ports two years ago. You can order them off their page if you look around and get a nofrills pack of just the two games in jewel cases for $10. :D

Also check your PC store bargain bins, because they also re-released Darius Gaiden, Raiden II, and a few other goodies at the same time. :)

In Asia yeah, KoF99/Evo did come out like I said. Very small release though. I think the ISO is pretty easy to find though because all copies of the game were sold and the SNK/Gamebank that published it no longer exists as we know it.

Who's playing KOF01 on an emulator? Nobody? Thought so. That's why this is such a Godsend. People now have no excuse not to BUY themselves a copy.

...I Don quite "get" that kind of attitude?

Either it`s

a) Crackpot logics

...like it would hurt sales of the KoF 2001 Home cart? Gimme a break Spike!I`ll bet my ass that The people who have both the Neo Geo and a PC will undoubtedly buy the Home\MVS cart...In this way more people will be introduced to KoF, More money for Playmore\Eolith\Whatever to create new titles!

b) Backroom elitism

..like i`ve seen a few times at this bbs, in the vein of: It`s too good for them godless PC players, If it isn`t on the neo it`s shit, etc... which is pathetic, like they would force you to buy it???

Look on the bright side.At least emulated versions will not be as popular as before if there is any of course. This is an official eolith PC version.
I hope its a good port cos' kof 99 evolution on PC was not that great when compared to the DC version of evo.

Korean PC. How the hell can you play it,when it plays only on a Korean PC? Do I have to get a Mod Chip for my PC or something, and or if I pop it in will it work?

It would be better if it came out for the PS2.

I also found some goodies in the PC bargain bin at Best Buy. Just recently, I found a Puzzle Bobble Dual-Jewel (Puzzle Bobble 1 & 2 in a 2-cd case) and a Sega Smash Pack (which contained Sonic CD, Shining Force, and a few other games). Got it all for under $20. What a deal!

My thoughts on KOF 2001 PC: IF it does somehow wind up here in the states, I'll be pleased, since it'll allow me to get my KOF 2K1 fix when I'm not at home. Should it not make it stateside, however, eh, no big deal. I'll just continue counting down the days until I can next my next King of Fighters 2001 dose.

The asian game market must definitely be different than ours.

Nobody in Canada or the US would get too pumped about a computer fighting game. Console ports (i.e. xbox), would make me happy :) . Lets hope this company has a lot of good business sense!
