Hi all! This is my first post here.

Well, I've been wanting a Neo Geo for around ten years now so I've just decided it's about time to get one. I need to know which machine to get though, Japanese or American, I know the games are universal but I need to know which region/s offer red blood in games etc etc... for instance, do japanese games show red blood on any machine? or does it depend on which machine you play on? I'm stuck - and I need to know about these things before I spend the cash. I want to collect US carts. because I know they are more valuble, but if they only show white blood then I think I'll have to go for the Jap. carts. instead.

Also, around 4 months ago I heard of a cartridge machine that was upgraded to give a better display - has anyone else heard about these?

Hello

Another person in Lancashire - cool !

The Japanese system shows red blood etc while the US system censors things out. Pretty sure a US cart in a Japanese system will show red blood. You're probably thinking of the svideo mod for the home system. Jeff Kurtz is the top guy on mods and other tech stuff, you're best off posting a message in the tech support forum.

You must have plenty of dosh to collect US carts

Correct, censoring is dependant on the machine you use, not the carts themselves. If you want all the evil blood and gore, get the Japanese machine.

BTW, welcome to the board. Do not let the insanity get to you too quickly.

Oh, forgot to mention, Jeff Kurtz can not only do an S-Video and Stereo upgrade, he can also install a debug BIOS chip which will allow extra options in games, as well as making it so you can get the uncensored effects on an American system. Last time I checked, I think he did package deals that I thought were reasonably priced (getting S-Video, Stereo, and the chip all in one go).

Forgot one other thing. Hmm, a newbie to the board? You must be dion in disguise!

Sorry, could not help myself.

I like my US console......heavy and shiny....
even after 10 years of purchase.....hahahah.
Blood color? Who cares. As long as there is no censor in content (remember SNES final fight?) then it's okay with me.

Whats crap about US carts?
>>>>

Well, they are identical to Japanese carts in every way, except the sticker, manual and case insert are in English
smile.gif
The crucial difference being, in certain cases, these english pieces of paper can spike the value of an English release hundreds more than the Japanese version.

Nice one!! Damn, 8 replies!!

Who is this Jeff Kurtz dude? Does he live in the UK? If so, how much is the conversion? I'm guessing you can choose red blood with english screen text?

That's a good point Fran - I'm using my Japanese system through a scart connection. The picture's sound as a pound

Jeff Kurtz is one of the moderators here on the board (at least the last time I checked). Post a message for him in the Tech Support area (at a guess), or get his e-mail from the member list.

I'll call him out when I finally get ahold of the machine - So then, Do you guys think I should look for a jap. console? Or does it not really matter after the mod?

BTW - I'm buying Samurai Shodown as my first game, US version 'new' from the neo-geo/com store - Samurai shodown kicks ass, I'll have to get SS2 afterwards, I believe it's difficult to find though.

If you're going to get it modded, it won't matter if it's JPN or otherwise.

Samurai Showdown 2 is very common and shouldn't be difficult to find.

Look, don't look at such details as red blood (of course, even I don't know why to censor the blood's colour,... does it make any sense?) buy the games and system for the fun of gaming!
