Unfortunately, the Neo-Geo does not output an S-Video signal by default through its multi A/V out, so you'll have to get an S-Video "mod" performed on your console by one of the people (Jeff Kurtz, !Arcade!, and others) who perform these mods. Dig through some old posts in the tech. forum and you'll find a wealth of information about this issue.

congrats man.
dolphin lord is right.
you have to get it modded for s-video.
if you have the option i heavily suggest you do it
if you want the better picture quality.
believe me man.
you wont notice it at first...
but if you play at arcades alot and
and you play on it with an arcade monitor and
then come home you can definitely tell a difference.
s-video is soooo good.
go for it if its in your means.

Congrats. S-video is the way to go, but if you want to save some cash, even a compsite cable is decent, IMO.

You did the right thing. :)

As for your first game I do suggest Samurai Spirits II: cheap and too cool!

Man, I will never catch why the hell all you American guys still go with S-VHS and all that modding mess.

WHY YOU DO NOT USE THE RGB?

1) It's the best, by soooooo far!

2) It came out of the standard console with NO modding at all.

Am I missing something or what?

I got the neo-geo for a reasonable price with the mod already done. i wasnt going to argue. Nonetheless i have a hard time taking you seriously when you talk like that...foreigner or no.

No, really, i wasn't try to quarrel or anything.

Starting from your thread, I just came out with a question I've in my mind since months.

Actually, I *really* do not understand why in America S-VHS is so popular.

I mean, why to mod a console only to get a video output which is WORSE than another output which DO NOT need any mod?

SNK also produced offial RGB cables, as I guess you all would know.

I'm really sorry if I sounded in anyway rude.

I guess that was due to my very poor english.

Anyway, my question remain.

Have it something to do with US TV standard? Maybe US TV do not have a scart-in? [Which is basic default in Europe].

Again, sorry if I sounded odd!

I really apologize!

Hope you are happy, i brought my homecart system before i could afford any games just to make sure i got it.
Even though i knew how big the slot was i was still in shock when i did manage to get my first game and saw how big it was. that was a great day for me as i remember when my game came i was unemployed so it kept me occupied for ages. fuck looking for a job when i could play neo geo all day.hehe.

I agree with you Shito RGB is the way to go,
I also feel modding is similar to what NGF do to carts, Unnecessary and then the Neo is left with bits never intended (and not needed). The power light mod to me is taking the piss, as it ruins the lines of the console and is not hidden away around the back of the unit.
I feel only rough consoles should be modded as it is just destroying original equipment, like NGF and making conversions with Sack carts does. WHY???
But that’s just my opinion.

I agree that after using RGB , you will never want to go back to S-Video , composite or RF . RGB is vastly superior to S-Video . I run my Master System , Megadrive , Saturn , NeoGeo cart system , Snes ,N64 Dreamcast , PS1 and PS2 all with RGB cables and they all look great (except the N64 which has limitations in this area .)

I've heard that it is hard to find TVs in the US with RGB/Scart input (compared to Europe and other countries like Australia ), so this is probably why S-Video seems popular in the US .

as far as I know, USA televisions don't have the SCART sockets...

SCART is a standard of Europe and Japan...

that's the reason they mainly use S-Video output...

<img src="graemlins/spock.gif" border="0" alt="[Spock]" /> I was thinking the same myself, and by the way who knows the scart for the dreamcast that allows you to play Vampire chronicles without having to use the RCA wire.

Bingo we have a winner!!!!
:D I don't really know of that many if any that come with s-cart-in as a standard here in the US. I don't even think it's an option here.

Dude, if you're just looking for an S-Video cable, why don't you check out Best Buy, Radio Shack, or any other electronics store? I don't have a modded system, but doesn't the mod just give you a standard S-Video jack on your Neo? Am I ignorant?
