I was reading a Neo Hard Ware Faq according to the author (its at gamefaqs) MVS game production will cease in 2 years making that 2004.

KOF 2004 the last KOF game?

Makes sense doesn't it?

It was written in march. I don't think he was correct but it would make snese to end KOF in 2004 if nothing else.

Here is the Faq if anybody is interested <a href="http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/neogeo/file/neo_geo_a.txt" target="_blank">http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/neogeo/file/neo_geo_a.txt</a>

I meant after King of Fighters 2002. <img src="graemlins/makeface.gif" border="0" alt="[Make Face]" /> Which by the looks of things won't be released till 2003. AFTER SvC. <img src="graemlins/makeface.gif" border="0" alt="[Make Face]" />

SNK said more times that i care to remember that "insert game name here" would be the final game released for home, with only a few more making it out to the arcade without a home version.
the biggest one that comes to mind is when they said that KOF '97 and Pulstar would be the last home games released, with nothing coming out on CD or home cart after that.
yeah right.
i'm sure that the good old SNK-USA believed this when they were told by SNK, but i'm sure that they mainly say this to drum up interest in their system and get people playing in the arcades again. if it makes people run out and play/buy a certain game because it is thought to be the last one, forever :)

I don’t see why people are saying that SNK should just end their game production. Graphic wise it can compete with any new 2D fighter and the game play is pretty good. Let Playmore beat the neo to a bloody pulp and pull out ever last ounce of playtime it has out of it. It won’t do us any harm and just may keep us amused for a while longer.

Thats funny I thought it was pretty much dead now !

1 or 2 releases a year hardly qualifies as alive.

but its always nice to dream I guess ?

It doesn't matter how many. :p The point is that there are still NEW (okay, in some cases rehashes) releases. IT IS ALIVE MAN!

i think the neo could live until that time but as time goes and arcades are more and more uncommon compared to 5 years ago.if playmore plays their cards right they can do this.seeing as game company's are mainly foucasing on the consoles compared to the arcade.but i will always love my neo but they need to do some drastic changes to keep the new games coming and ports to home systems are a big plus seeing as the average mainstream gamer has never heard of kof, fatal fury, samurai showdown etc. getting these games known from the average gamer atleast in the us it will raise the income of thier sales since i have only seen 2 neo systems in the arcades around where i live they are pretty uncommon in arcades.i can honestly say that every arcade i have been to has atleast 1 marvel vs. capcom 2 and street fighter 3 third strike.well i look forward in seeing the new games as they come out.

It'd be nice if they ported games to other systems and used that $$$ as life-support on the Neo... oh wait... they already seem to be doing that.
The only problem is that like everyone's said, aracades are a dying breed, and like it or not, 2D fighters and 2D side scrollers, while still amazingly fun, are going the way of the Dodo because people are sheep and the do what the big corporations tell them. Nintendo, Sony and Sega tell us that 3D gaming is where it's at... so they HAVE to be correct, right? Everyone (figuratively speaking) is in favor of flashy 3D graphics, and the Neo can't do that.

I'm am pleasantly surprised it's lasted as long as it has, and I for one, am glad it had such a long run. Wish they'd continue on forever, but when a company isn't making money anymore, which I am sure they are getting to the ass end of the life cycle for the Neo, how can they expect to support something like the Neo?

I always wondered why they never did what Nintendo did with the Super FX chip.

Arcades are dying in the USA. They're still very much active in Japan. People are sheep in the US, thats true. Whatever Playmore chooses to do with the Neo will be based on response in Japan. Sorry the US Neo market has very little influence. I mean god, the percentage of gamers who even own a Neo AES system in the USA is so minute that they aren't exactly going to worry about us and what we want. It goes by what happens in Japan, not the US nowadays.

That's true enough. I guess eventually we may no longer see English AES releases at all, unless of course Shawn is still willing to sell 'em. It's OK though, 'cause I'm an MVSer and if they continue to make Japanese MVS games, I'll continue to buy 'em! Even if they only play in Japanese, I mean hell, they're mostly fighters, and you really NEED a story to a fighter?

I couldn't have said it better myself. Who would believe that FAQ anyway. The future is not set in stone.

It would be nice if Playmore got all Naomi on our asses.......

How about this new system with Hi res 2d only
and it's backwards compatable with all MVS and AES games....

Sound like a plan?

So who wants to go out side the playmore offices with a 30 guage shot gun and keep firing until they do that?

You can fire all the shots you like. From what I've been told they don't have a single engineer on staff, just a few programmers and stuff. They also don't have any money! When Nintendo took so long to release a new hand-held, we could complain all we wanted...there was nothing stopping them from doing an upgrade.

When it comes to Playmore though, they just don't have the money for that kind of move right now. I wish they'd do a next-gen naomi style board with backwards compatability too! I don't even think it would be hard or expensive for a few reasonably talented engineers to design, but unless people do that on thier own time and GIVE playmore the finished product, it's just not going to happen.

actually, as unlikely as it is, the best way for a new system would be for people just get together and make one. Then, licence it with Playmore and allow them to make games for it as well. Oh yeah, it's called the crystal system!

If you want to see updated graphics on the neo, go out and buy a crystal system today!! Hell, go buy one just so they'll make more games for it!!

BTW, anyone know if they're making fighters for this or not? I have only seen two games so far, and I detest sports games.

I hate to break it to you guys but first off....

As long as MVS releases bring in the cash, they will still be made. I would not set a drop dead date. Playmore et al invest some $$$ in getting the SNK properties, so they will exploit it as much as possible.

As far as a next generation Neo, do not wish for that. If such a beast came out, that would be the death of Playmore. Why do you ask? Market penetration. With the MVS, they already have a solid market penetration, there are more of them than ANY other arcade setup still in use. More MVS's than CP2, who is the closest competitor, although CPS2 is dead (and they commit suicide) because Capcom dropped support for them.

All Playmore has to do is produce quality product for Arcade ops to buy, and the MVS will still thrive. The home market is a different story. While they might not be making a killing with it, its a little extra $$$ for their pockets.

Well said Mouse. People seem to be missing the point that it is not economically feasible in the current game market. People need to stop being so greedy and be thankful Neo Geo games still come out. To still have games coming out 12 years after the release, I think that is rather amazing. You can't have everything you want. Be grateful for what we have with the Neo.

Personally I wouldn't believe a single word written at gamefags, but MVS releases are going to end sooner or later.

2004 may be that date, at most I say MVS has five more years to offer - and that's looking at it really optomistically. Certainly MVS cannot survive on countless KoF and Metal Slug rehashes. It needs to offer something different to keep people interested.

I agree that Playmore will want to recoup as much money as possible on their investment, but that doesn't necessarily have to be done through MVS.

Playmore may decide to use their SNK licences on different hardware formats or on an entirely new next gen 2D systems. However, after the failure of the Crystal System this is unlikely.

MVS is still a success because of the number of cabs already installed in operators centres. That does not mean MVS is going to go on forever.

I would expect an announcement on the MVS's future in the 2 years and production to cease within the next five.

We may be all here in ten years time supporting the format, but the new releases will have long disappeared by then.

I guess we'll all have to take matters into our own hands.

Anybody here know how to Build an Arcade board?
