The Neo Geo is no longer the last bastion of 2D gaming goodness thanks to the Gameboy Advance. I just got an import copy of "Super Ghouls N Ghosts" and a GBA and it rocks just as much as the original SNES version. Bring on R-Type, Contra, Street Fighter Alpha, Metroid, etc..

Screen size leaves something to be desired, but yeah, 2D gaming has another option. :)

I've been thinking about buying one only for the Castlevania titles. After I finished SOTN, I've craved another 2D Castlevania religiously.

No, I didn't like the last one for PS either... whatever it was called.

Where did you hear that? That is going to be rather hard to do. GBA is alot different than SNES hardware.

Christ...it's not like it requires a special machine to do 2D, every* video game system ever, since the begining has been capable of 2D graphics!! They simply choose not to do it as much as they could/should and that's pathetic. Seriously the only reason they do 2D on the GBA is because right now 3D isn't a viable solution, if they could do games in 3D...I'm not sure we'd be seeing these remakes of SNES games and new 2D stuff.

<img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" />

I don't hate 3D but for fuck's sake a good 2D game is worth it's weight in gold these days, to the point where we're limited to a precious few systems who can't do 3D or can't do it yet to the degree the developers want.

And we're excited. Better than nothing I suppose and I'll take my 2D any way I cn get it.

*'cept the vetrex and other vector systems, as the assholes would point out :) .

Totally different.

Differnt CPUs, Different Architecture, Differet button layout, Different Audio (that one I'm not sure about, 99% sure they're different)...hell the graphic resolutions aren't even the same they're totally different.

A direct SNES to GBA conversion is practically impossible.

If it was, don't you think someone would have done it professionally by now so instead of having to re-make and re-compile Earthworm Jim they can just magic thier way to a new release?

developers are knowing now more then ever there is a group of gamers that are still in demand of 2d games, and well done ones at that, the problem is they dont want to spend the money and time on sprites anymore....especailly upgrading them....why do that when you can make a simple 3d model and manipulate it rather then making so many different frames of animation.....contra on ps2 is a nice example, its 2d in style, but 3d and rather easy to get done in comparison to an actual 2d game....gba is pretty capable of snes level stuff, though not exact, and because of this a lot of developers are simply porting their old things over....which is again easier then working on a 3d solution to gba such as some have done, and making completely new sprites....but thankfully developers do realize that we do want new content as well...the gba is a great system, and due to lack of real 3d power almost demands 2d, its no reason why there will and are still 2d games...2d gaming will never die...

Isn't Bettis going to buy out Wendys and become the new posterboy, saying "eat great, even late."

It should happen. Wendys = Pittsburgh = Bettis.

I've suspected the same thing for the longest. Although I can't say for certain since I've never worked on a game project, I would think that it's substantially easier to create 3D models than to hand-draw sprite based material of the caliber we find (and take for granted) in most Neo-Geo games.

BTW, since this thread doesn't directly relate to any Neo news, so to speak, I moved it to Unrelated Topics.
