Ok here's the deal:

Japhei, a relatively new member here was in the selling forum selling Moded Saturn's bundled with a bunch of copied games.

He was also selling lots of Legitimate merchandise, including a Japanese DC, a DC and PS2, and many legit games. Along with some nice little collectables (A Radiant Silvergun Spinecard).

So what happened was he got IP banned from here and I think his account was deleted.

He is sorry that he was selling the copied games along with the Saturns. He wasn't just selling the copied games by themselves he was just selling them with Saturn systems he was unloading. He would have stopped selling them had he been told that we didn't allow/like that sort of thing here.

He would really like to come back to the boards and have his account re-instated. He is sorry and didn't mean to cause trouble because he didn't think it would be a problem. He is saying that if allowed back he will never try to sell anything like that again on here.

I support him because after talking to him on AIM, I can see he's sincere in what he's saying.

Not to mention that he was telling people that they were bootlegs that were being given with the system. People here sell MVS carts all the time and say that they are bootlegs. And lets not forget that Kyokugen Star sold a converted Metal Slug AES for $1600, claiming it as original. He ADMITTED he knew it was a conversion and REFUSES to re-fund the money. Yet he still has an account here and is not IP Banned!

I'm not saying the MOD's did a bad thing here, as we don't want to be over run with bootleg sellers, but I believe that this is one case where the person isn't trying to sell just bootlegs and was actually trying to become a part of the boards here.

So please, re-instate Japhei's account and remove his IP ban.

I think he should be unbanned too. I've dealt with Japhei and he really is a nice guy. I sold him a Strikers 1945 Plus MVS cart and in addition to the money, he is going to send me a JP (original) copy of Berserk, which is a very nice bonus.

Really, he wasn't selling the bootlegs more than just including them with the Saturn (i.e. a bunch of free copies with the Saturn, just so you can have something to play when you get it). It's a lot better than all the MVS boots I have been seeing for sale in the selling forum.

With that said, unban Japhei.

yeah ive already sent a request to Judge Dredd but i got no answear before i saw this(what a surprise).......basiclly he was banned for selling a modded saturn with backup copies when others are currently doing so with nothing but praise(he currently has a nice ebay record and might act have something to contribute to the boards)

also there is this thing with kyo star still having membership statuas hmmmmmm makes alot of sense

would whoever used j d at the time please unban him because he was never neg person on the boards(unlike a few nameless hypocrites on the boards)

no. those copies were an extra $100 on top of the saturn and you know it. you wouldnt buy a modded saturn for $150 would you? and if you would, your dumb. and he accused people that didn't like copies that we 'get our money for games by sponging of our parents' PATHETIC.
then he tried to make out he was some crusader for our parents to save them money. because he has a great $6000 collection , see , that he wants to share with everyone across the land......

i don't agree that Kstar still has an account either but at least we don't have to read

As far as I know he didn't make any posts about running Neo games on his XBox. In fact it seems that he's into the MVS, why else would he buy a Strikers 1945 Plus cart off biocat? And not that I know (nor that it's any of my buisness) what he paid for it, but Strikers isn't exactly the cheapest title to own even on MVS (I mean just look at what the Price Guide has it listed for... <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" /> ). So it's not like he was only dealing/playing EMU's or burned games.

And just for your info, they were internally modded Saturns that not only allowed direct boots of imports, but also copies. Which isn't exactly easy to find anymore from what I understand.

Well that still doesn't change the fact that he's into the MVS and actually buys games.

I don't want to turn this into a EMU debate, but there are a LOT, and I MEAN A LOT of "prominent members" here on the boards who not only have full MAME ROM sets or even MAME cabinets, but are involved even deeper into the Neo emulation scene.

I will not name names, because it's just not my style (a Sicilian never rats), but I'm sure the MOD's know who and what I'm talking about.

My point is that aside from selling ROM CD's on eBay, supporting Emulation openly (while you do own legitimate hardware) is not grounds for being banned.

Having a Modded Saturn like that does not necessarily mean you are supporting piracy. Lots of people modded thier DC's because they didn't want to swap discs. Well many Saturn users didn't want to have to go through the menu's of a game shark or 4in1 converter to play imports.

And as a side note, the Saturn is and has been dead for YEARS now. So having copied games isn't exactly the worst thing to be doing since Sega can no longer make any money from the re-selling of Saturn games.

And I'm not trying to get on people's bad side, I'm just telling it like it is too :) .

the beauty of this post is that you were never given a choice. you bought the whole lot with back ups or that was it.

the truth is he was still selling copies of games. that is wrong. there's a difference between being into the emulation scene, and making money out of it. selling back ups, roms , or copies is not cool. getting neo geo to run on the xbox then brag about it isn't cool. calling someone a hater and penny-pincher for not liking copies isn't cool. i rest my case.

Look, you don't see me calling people idiots for buying AES carts (ok only people who spend $1000-$2000+ for a game :p ), so I can understand your point. However, he was selling the Modded Saturn for $150 which is about a fair price for that piece of hardware (described a few posts ago). So it's not like he was trying to make money off the copies, but rather to make the package more attractive to be bought.

He never did anything bad enough to deserve a permanent ban, this guy was cool, and a great addition to the forumns, give him a second chance judge dread, please. I was just about to post a thread like this as well, but I see it has already been done, glad to see it, justice must be given to japhei, unban him please! =(

So many people own burned games, it doenst deserve a ban, it's sort of like j-walking, it's against the law but 75% of people do it, I don't have burned games nor do I support them but I still do think this is a very harsh punishment. =(

Look, niether I nor Japhei are going to debate whether selling burned games with the system was write or not. Personally I wouldn't have listed that I would include burned games. Instead I would have asked the eventual buyer if they wanted them at no extra cost. But I don't do that (you can get in trouble for that sort of thing!). Japhei didn't think it would be a problem because on other boards he's been to it wasn't a problem.

Here it is a very different story.

He said if he had known that it wasn't allowed/looked down upon he wouldn't have done it. Remember the original punishment would be a 1 week ban, when it was changed to a perm. ban.

Agreed 100%. Japhei was selling a ton of Saturn burns and offering extra sets to whoever wanted them. He's a fucking lowlife pirate and doesn't deserve to be in the forums, period. I'm glad he was shitcanned, good riddance to him.
