What would you pay for an AES II?

I've been trying to figure out what such a machine would cost. I know, we'll know someday but my fear is that it may be a bit on the high side. Why?

Well, it has been stated that the !ARCADE! MVS to AES converter probably will not drop much below $299. Considering that original AESs in great condition with all hooksups still demand $350 and a lot more then you've got to figure that the AES II will no doubt cost about what you'd pay for a MVS Converter plus an AES, right? I mean it appears that the AES II is a complete system, not just a converter so I'd expect the thing to be around $500 or more. Is that to much? Should a non-SNK product demand such a price? How much is too much for the convience of such a device?

Depends on available features. I have yet to see a definitive technical specification sheet for it. If it has been posted and I missed it, would someone kindly provide a URL? Thank you.

Not buying one. Waiting for a used one or a silly $100 price reduction.

The thing I keep catching myself wondering about this new system is: Will !Arcade! try and market it for anybody and everybody (i.e. the mainstream), or will it be something that stays within our cult-like following of the Neo Geo? I mean, !Arcade! has more money then I'll probably ever see, but if this system is gonna go up against the likes of industry giants like Sony and Microsoft, the advertising alone would probably break the bank for these guys.

I'd like to see a 2D powerhouse like the Neo Geo go and take a chunk out of the cheeseball mainstream 3D market. Maybe smack some of these lemmings upside the head and make them see where true video gaming bliss can be attained. But who knows what direction this is all gonna take...

I think $350 wouldn't be too much to ask for an AES 2.

S-Video is a necessity (A/V looks frankly deplorable).

$399.99 seems right to me. One more penny and it's $400 and too much.
MAYBE up to $500 depending on the features. It is going to be a niche market product at best, but they may have enough buyers to succeed somewhat.

I remember hearing that there was the possibility that it would also function as a SuperGun. If it did, the price would go up, but if it is quality hardware, then it is worth it. I also remember hearing about some serious arcade stick controllers for it, I want to see these.

Think about it
PS2 $299 and might have a price drop when Xbox comes out in fall

XBox $299
Gamecube $299 (not sure)

Those three consoles are way powerful and some of them even have DVD playback feature.

AES II will not price over $350
Neo Geo is an old machine. I dont' care it's "master of 2D console" or "best console overall"........
We've seen too many powerful machines at reasonable (or even cheaper) price EX: DC

Don't get me wrong. I'm still a Neo gamer and supporter. But price issue is still bugging me

Silent, I think it's a mistake to compare the AES II to current home game consoles. It is more comparable to coin-op hardware. It won't even register on the radar of the average video gamer. But there may be enough of us gaming enthusiasts to make it succeed-many IFS though.

All those console makers lose money on the hardware and hope to make it up with software sales. There is no such correlation with AES II. !Arcade! has to make profit on the hardware alone or they will not market this product.

To answer the original question, I would not pay more than $399.

Maybe this is just a strange era in video games....

What did the Neo Geo from SNK retail for? And it had one (AES) slot...

1.) SNK is bigger than arcade!
2.) Stony, Microsloth, Nintendon't are MUCH bigger than arcade!

Yet, many of you are saying that a tiny company such as arcade! should release an AES II at about half the MSRP of a "regular" Neo Geo and be competitive with Microsoft and Sony?

*ARGH*, niche systems and tech projects are dead. -_-

Sad,

TK

C'mon, guys. Neo machine is over 10 years old. I know AES II will play MVS game but that's MVS game. SNK technology is way behind other companies like Capcom, Sega, Namco, Tecmo and so.

"Don't forget about Metal slug 3. It shows SNK can do anything..."

Yeah yeah yeah...2D only.......where is CG?
Where is 5:1 surround sound (PS 2 The Bouncer)? We want more........more than what we have 10 years ago.

"AES is true arcade machine...."

Yeah yeah yeah.....DC is arcade machine too....Saturn is arcade machine too.....

"AES can withstand any competition over 10 years"

yeah yeah yeah.....what kinda games are we getting? Can we play Tekken-style game on AES? House of the Dead-type game? DOA-type game?

$299 is my maximum.

I have to re-phrase my earlier post...

"Jack Shit"

There...

Thats what I think about a "new" homemade system!

Is not this all a moot point

after all the convertor came out at $399 and that was above the price most would pay. Now it droped to $299 and it is still high to most people. But it was still a sucess more or less.

Now the New system will come out at some price I am sure most will disagree with. I already said what I consider a good price and why but I seem to be in the minority of those discussing the topic

but at any rate the system Is just another why to enjoy the games. I want one becuase if it is built as well as the convertor I think it will last a lot longer then my orginal neo will. And hopefully the PS will be one I can easly replace if it goes bad. To me it has always been value for the Money. I rate games lower in value then most becuase there are other ways to play the same game but when it comes to the system I play it on I want to have the best option out there. Right now that appears to be !arcades! new system...but I have not seen or tried it out yet so it may not be. Guess time will tell.

I won't pay too much for this. I own a AES and I will prefer buy an used MVS machine. But if I would buy an AES2 I would pay 300$ maximum.

You know, now that you mention it, I have one of my token theories..(none of which have ever been right)

1. Arcade is advertising in a national magazine. This indicates that he is trying to sell to someone besides the NEO-hardcore.

2. The controller is an exact copy of a 3rd-party PSX pad. That company would not waste time to make a run of 1500 pads (if even that many) for a machine no one activley purchases new items for (who still makes and sells {and advertises [in mags] 3Do pads? No one.) This indicates that he is trying to sell to people without any NEO products. And stealing the design leaves his company open to litigation.

3. Someone has been talking to some people on this board (who won't give out their sources) inquiring about cart replication. Everyone automatically jumped the gun and started yelling "NGF, DIE! DIE! DIE! We don't want carts even if they are professionally made by the same people but financed by you" Who's to say it wasn't Arcade!? He has taken quite awhile to construct a system that is pretty much already built. Who's to say he isn't firing up SNK's old cart replicators (or his own) and reproducing runs of SNK best titles? You don't sell a system without at least a small supply of games. Anyone remember what Arcade said awhile back? Something about "New system finished, blah blah blah carts?" I'll bet those "inquiries" I mentioned earlier were to get a feeling for the most wanted, and coolest games, so he could replicate those, and have some that he knew he could sell with his new system.

Anyway, that's just my own dumb theory. But it makes you think, don't it?

I think that I would drop $300- $350. I probably won't go much higher that that. I already have a home system and an arcade so there is little need that I have for a new home system even if it does play the MVS games.

Someone does bring out a good point here.
Arcade will try to sell his system to non-Neo gamer. I don't think he'll only focus on Neo community but try to reach others who don't have AES or don't know anything about SNK Neo game.

If it's that case that the price of AES II might be high.......
