I never liked them, especially if you win it and the seller never gives you an oppertunity to buy the product

Reserve prices are used to protect the seller. However, I find no reserve auctions more exciting, yet risky. For instance, I sold my Toyota Land Cruiser through ebay, started the auction at one penny with no reserve price.

Personally, I still don't see much use for reserves. If the seller wants to protect himself, all he has to do is set a higher starting bid. I've never seen a live auction where someone can bid at the starting price, or even higher, and still not win.

Reserve auctions protect the seller from losing money. If you set the price high - there may not be any bids. Set the price at .01 and get only .30 for something.

It is cheaper to start an auction @ $1 with a $250 reserve, then to start an item at $250 with no reserve. That is the main reason I do it.

You sold the Land Cruiser? No reserve? Damn that was risky. Still have the motorcycle?

Yes, still have my bike. Nearing the 4000-mile mark. Going riding today, and just about everyday that is warm and sunny

Hmm... I've never thought of it that way. Thank you for enlightening me.

Hey, Shawn. I was wonderin' if all those pics were still loaded somewhere.

Dude, a steel Rolex is the way to go. Simple, understated with bare bones strength.

Nice Bike!

Mate of mine had a 900 fireblade! (tweaked)
I foolishly asked to go for a ride on the back (No chance he'd let me drive )
Crazy MF did an indicated 150 mph, with me on the back! Scared the B'Jezus out of me! Fun though!

You can have somebody else bid on your stuff instead of setting a reserve. My friend used to do that, and he got the price he wanted a lot of times out of doing that.
