I just got a neo cart system off of Ebay for $311 with a serial of 67000 or so, just for this converter. Paid a bit more than i wanted to, but hopefully i'll have one less headache when i do spring for it. I wonder how much more it will drop?

That's is what is keeping me on the fence about it. My AES machines are under 22000 serial number wise.

I'm pretty sure that it's been said that if you have a system with a serial below 50000 you "MAY" have a problem with the cart connectors being too loose to make a good connection with the converter. Newer models >50000 have tighter connections inside, and will accept the converter with no prob. From what i gather tho, it really varies from system to system. There are posts in the tech forum that explain it in more depth.

It still makes me nervous.
I've read so many posts but you don't want to gamble, right? Especially it may happen from system to system.
I don't want to spend $299 on a convertor and later on find out it doesn't work.
I can't return to VGD and say, "Hey, it doesn't work". I don't think VGD will buy that.

ok but this converter will be only sold throught the USA,so for the european the only solution is to buy a real MVS.

As said earlier, I don't think it has to do with the serial #. It has to do w/ how loose your slot is--come to think of it, I think that's why my older MVS converter had minor glitches. It probably wasn't making all the contact.

I believe the converter works with serial numbers #100000 and above cus when i got mine it didnt work cus my system was under that number.

Why get the converter now when can get the AES2?

This has probably been asked before, but why spend that much on a convertor when you can pick up an mvs board for a fraction of the cost. We all know here of sites which contain info on diy superguns, so that costs next to nothing also.

OK. This is my take on the whole deal:

1.Neo home-cart systems were never meant to play MVS carts. I personally like the spin that the !arcade! converter puts on things. MVS boards that play MVS carts are nothing special (read:no "cool" factor), but an AES doing the same thing is another story

2.Superguns and like systems are bulky and can be messy at times. A home system w/ converter is more aesthetically
pleasing in general.

3.I have to admit that the AES II looks promising, but I'm wary of the quality of manufacture so far. A converter is one thing, but this system still has to prove its reliability. Time will tell.

4.If the AES II really takes off, its possible that !arcade! will stop manufacturing the converter all together, and concentrate solely on their new system. If this does happen, you have a relatively small number of converters in public circulation, and the Phantom-1 will become a collectors piece for those who want to stick with official SNK hardware

Converter won't drop much below $299.99, this is about as low as it'll get.

Trust me.

still at $299.99, it's expensive. why don't you guys just add a few hundred more and get a stand up neo-geo mvs macine w/monitor & cabinet? i got one for $350.00 which is in cherry condition that game with metal slug and it's an original neo 1 slot. i guess if you guys want portability, then the converter is good, but otherwise don't we all dream of having a stand-up machine? it's a party attraction for sure.

I got 2 words for ya:

SHIPPING COST

When I can find a good MVS stand-up locally, I'll jump on it, but until then a converter is more practical for me. Must be nice to have a cab

While $299 may sound expensive for a convertor, think of the money you will save on MVS carts vs. Home Carts on the rarer titles.

(Rough estimates here)
Metal Slug: $1200 HC, $50 MVS
Garou: $600 HC, $100 MVS
Ninja Masters: $600 HC, $100 MVS
Breakers: $400 HC, $70 MVS

Just a few examples and look at the savings. If you buy a fair amount of games, the converter is a great deal.

As for AES2.. we don't know the price yet, so who knows if the converter is a better deal or not (compared to AES2)?

I want to have a cab someday, but I'm still living with my parents and all I have is my bedroom. There is NO room for a cab. So for me, the adapter is very attractive. I will say that even with the new $300 price, it's still expensive.
