I saw this auction on Ebay and nearly chocked on my soda! Take a gander at this:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1364440325" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1364440325</a>

We're talking $57 for something that usually sells for $30 or less brand-new?

I know US CD's are on the rise, but the japanese ones should be dirt cheap.

Maybe people are getting fed up with AES prices and switching over to CD? Could be something to watch.

Possibly.

IMO, there are lots of Neo newbies who want to get into it cheaply without having to fiddle with MVS tech stuff.

They get exploited by idiots who charge twice or thrice the usual cost for common CD games, to justify prices like $150 for Ninja Master's, TSS or MS1. I mean, just read Tarma's topic "Looking for super rare Neo Geo CD games?"...

CD systems go up in price as well. Several importers I check regularly raised the prices for std. top loaders and CDZs by roughly 10%.

Overall, that's sad. The Neo CD market was so nice and quiet before. I really, really hope this is just a stupid exception.

it was nice and quiet when there was no demand for it. Now that there is demand... things will get stirred a bit.... and prices wil be raised because it will cost more for the merchants to get those games/systems in.
I haven't sold my 2 cd units.... they are respectibly priced for their condition....

I love the neo CD market... I wish it was bigger. You don't have to worry about bootlegs as much.. because you can look at the artwork on the CD and tell it is a bootleg.. that is all you have to worry about.

IT is actually nice to see the system coming alive.

Another reason systems might be going up is because they are becoming somewhat extinct. It seems the CD system wear out faster than the cart systems... leaving less to deal out.

Yeah I know what you mean.. There used to be hardly any demand for it. Last year I bought a Brand New copy of TSS for 45 bucks on eBay. And it wasnt a BIN.

I did get a boot in once, and it wasnt easy to tell it was a boot. The manual was just about perfect, spine too. The CD print just looked wrong, a little shitty.

I'm just glad my CD stash is finished, I'd hate to pay these fucking prices now.

Maybe one day I can sell my MINT Blue's Journey CD for $150 :D

lol!! that would be funny.

my collection is at 35 cd games if I am correct. No more money here.... think if I tried to collect moer aes games than the 9 I have..... I'd be bank rupt.

Still... in all actuality, Neo Geo CD games are rather cheap... as are the systems. It is a good quality system. sure, theload time is a slow... but it is a great system.

I think the price going up a little bit is due to newbies interested in Neo but, don't want to pay the exorbitant prices for the AES software and hardware. I remember skimming through GameFAQs' message boards not too long ago and see various people suddenly interested in getting a Neo system. They all want the AES, however once they hear about the pricing they change their minds to the CD/CDZ systems. It's kind of interesting because I had just recently been contemplating on whether or not to pick up a CD system for collectors purposes. Now I better decide on that soon in case suddenly everything skyrockets. :) But, it's really like it was mentioned previously, it's just newbies coming along and having an interest to get into the Neo scene. As long as they stay away from the AES, I won't care.

...or to fall prey to the baggie collectors who raise their heads because they've distinctively heard the word "rare"...

lol :)

some CD games are becoming less apparant. neo Drift out.. I sold 1 last december for $30.00.... they were common then.

now they are not common. That seems to be the case for many other games.

I don't know if it is just because people are enjoying their systems/games and are not letting them go, or what the deal is.

Neo CD's are dirt fucking cheap in Japan (units and games), most games are under 10 bucks mint (and on yahoo japan).

If eBay starts to get expensive "Know thyself, know the source" and fly to fucking Japan and buy what you need.

Wise words Drift King EX. Living in Japan I've seen heaps of boxed CD units for no money at all.
I saw one the other day for 3000 yen. Do the maths yourself.

There are too many middle men making huge profits selling Japanese hardware at the moment. Jeez, all you need to do is score something on Yahoo! Japan put it on ebay, instant profit.
This shit drives me crazy. <img src="graemlins/blowtop.gif" border="0" alt="[Blow Top]" />

All I wanna do is play some games.

Hah, I can't believe magician lord of all games broke $50.. Maybe NGCD value IS rising... For two reasons 1) Metal Slug :D 2) Metal Slug 2 :D

The AES versions are practically out of reach, and the NGCD load times aren't half as bad as people would like to make you think. Not to mention they have CD quality music.... Metal Slug 2 level 1 never sounded so good.
