E3 2003: SNK Update
SNK vs Capcom, Metal Slug 5, KOF 3D, and more!

May 16, 2003 - We had a chance to sit down with an official representative for 2D game company icon SNK, and got confirmation on a number of future titles. We also got word of a few random tidbits. Here's what we know:

King of Fighters 3D - SNK will be testing the waters with a 3D version of their popular fighting series. The game is scheduled to hit the PS2 in Japan this December. KOF 3D will be the first SNK fighting game developed specifically for the Playstation 2. No other details are currently known about the game.

Metal Slug 5 - Details are scarce, but expect the next iteration of the Metal Slug series to continue its fine, 2D, shoot-everything gameplay. We love it already.

SNK vs Capcom: Chaos - No new details regarding the game except that it will hitting American arcades next month, and the PS2 this winter. An Xbox version is in currently in the talks, and from what we know, the deal is looking very good. Online play for the game is also being discussed, but if implementing the feature pushes the release date too far back, say goodbye to online.

King of Fighters 2003 - The game is coming to Japanese arcades at the end of this year, with a PS2 version currently scheduled for sometime in 2004. That is all we officially know, but don't be surprised if the game is similar to other King of Fighters games.

Metal Slug 3/Metal Slug 4 - Both Metal Slug 3 and Metal Slug 4 are headed to the US in October and winter 2003, respectively. Along with Metal Slug 5, that's a lot of Metal Slug!

King of Fighters 2001/2002 - Both games will be available together in one package later this year. SNK is still unsure on how it wants to package the games together, whether it be a preorder deal, one jewel case, etc, but the two games will definitely be available for the PS2 as a bundle. Word.

SNK Classics Collection (not an official title) - SNK is debating whether it should re-release SNK classics on the PS1 for the budget price of roughly $9.99, or create a collection of sorts, not unlike the Namco classics collections, for the PS2. With a back catalog of over one hundred games, let's hope we get the PS2 package.

Online SNK vs Capcom? Yes please. And hitting US arcades next month?

Classic collections? How about all 3 Ikari Warriors games along with POW and Guevara?

Wow, Playmore makes ambitious plans. Looks like they finally wised up and realized sometimes you gots to spin out the oldies in order to make the goodies. Wonder if The King of Fighters with online capability will turn out to be Xbox's killer app for Japan?

My goodness. Can this get any better? It seems 2003-2004 will be the year of Playmore. I can't wait for the Kof 2000/2001 bundle coming in October. Only thing that can make this better is the announcement of a Garou sequel.

King of Fighters 3D sounds interesting.

I hope Playmore takes the extra time and includes online play in SNK vs. Capcom, it would add alot to it and give gamers a reason to purchase the PS2 port if they have already bought the AES/MVS versions.

They're working on KOF 3D for Playstation 2? Well, it had to happen sometime. :D I am more interested in SVC:Choas (MVS) and MS5 (MVS), but I will certainly purchase SVC:Chaos for Xbox as long as it supports Live!.

I noticed something. The article says Kof 2K1 and 2K2, but the rep I spoke with (Eric Feiner, VP of sales and marketing) said 2k and 2k1. Hmmm... I'll get to the bottom of this...

In addition to SvC Chaos being released for xbox live, I would love to see some older collections of SNK fighting games released for online play.

Imagine if they released all 4 Samurai Shodown's on one disc with each available for online play. Or both the Last Blade's. buttrock drool_2

Oh man, a Garou collection for the ps2 would kick so much ass. Or a Samurai collection. That is by far the coolest news I've probably ever heard out of my whole life, and that includes the first time a chick let me finger her.

He said in the interview that Metal SLug 5, 3, and 4 would be coming to the USA!!

You all think this is really true??

Also, since MS 3 and 4 are already out on MVS/AES (right?) in the USA, does this mean that Metal Slug 3 and 4 will be coming out in the USA on PS2??

Any clue as to what paltformS MS 3, 4, and 5 will be available on?

This one is pretty interesting.

I don't see how they could play like the originals without rotational sticks...and no, the PSX/2 analog controls would not do at all...

I have a strange feeling the SNK classics will be re-releases of SNK's past PS1 games.

Personally I wouldn't mind having a "nice" copy of LB and LB2 to play on my home television.

SS1 and 2 would be nice also.
