E3 2003: SNK Update
SNK vs Capcom, Metal Slug 5, KOF 3D, and more!
May 16, 2003 - We had a chance to sit down with an official representative for 2D game company icon SNK, and got confirmation on a number of future titles. We also got word of a few random tidbits. Here's what we know:
King of Fighters 3D - SNK will be testing the waters with a 3D version of their popular fighting series. The game is scheduled to hit the PS2 in Japan this December. KOF 3D will be the first SNK fighting game developed specifically for the Playstation 2. No other details are currently known about the game.
Metal Slug 5 - Details are scarce, but expect the next iteration of the Metal Slug series to continue its fine, 2D, shoot-everything gameplay. We love it already.
SNK vs Capcom: Chaos - No new details regarding the game except that it will hitting American arcades next month, and the PS2 this winter. An Xbox version is in currently in the talks, and from what we know, the deal is looking very good. Online play for the game is also being discussed, but if implementing the feature pushes the release date too far back, say goodbye to online.
King of Fighters 2003 - The game is coming to Japanese arcades at the end of this year, with a PS2 version currently scheduled for sometime in 2004. That is all we officially know, but don't be surprised if the game is similar to other King of Fighters games.
Metal Slug 3/Metal Slug 4 - Both Metal Slug 3 and Metal Slug 4 are headed to the US in October and winter 2003, respectively. Along with Metal Slug 5, that's a lot of Metal Slug!
King of Fighters 2001/2002 - Both games will be available together in one package later this year. SNK is still unsure on how it wants to package the games together, whether it be a preorder deal, one jewel case, etc, but the two games will definitely be available for the PS2 as a bundle. Word.
SNK Classics Collection (not an official title) - SNK is debating whether it should re-release SNK classics on the PS1 for the budget price of roughly $9.99, or create a collection of sorts, not unlike the Namco classics collections, for the PS2. With a back catalog of over one hundred games, let's hope we get the PS2 package.
Online SNK vs Capcom? Yes please. And hitting US arcades next month?
Classic collections? How about all 3 Ikari Warriors games along with POW and Guevara?
