SHOCK!X2 will be providing an FTP site for any and all Uploads/Downloads of SCANNED Neo Geo Inserts.
What will be available thus far will be the Inserts provided by Nick _TH_ Fury.I guess these were the Neo Geo Freak Inserts that were released to the public.
What I want is a GENERAL format we can all agree on.. I say BMP is best for all...
DONATIONS are encouraged but I want everything to be in the same format, meaning scanned at the same DPI,split up for DL,etc ,
This will eliminate problems and confusion.

Before this FTP site is available I REALLY, REALLY need some suggestions as to how this should be handled.
Who wants to do what??? What should I do that will be best for ALL.
Thankyou-BB

personnal and private.

bmp...dont agree, too big i think.

jpegs are best... ok compressed. but easly as universal as bmp's.

how much space have we?

It's going to be GIGS avaialable....
Thanks for the input and I hope to see more so we can get this established once and for all...because at least we will have them 'ALL' online for everyone and we'll work on a print quality after that..

Personally I think jpegs would be the best choice. Probably more universal than BMPs.

As far as format, I don't care so lang as the DPI is high enough. Even at 150, the small text on the inserts is not readible.

What do you mean by breaking them up for download? Do you want inserts in "front, spine, back" pieces?

I want them split up for into two parts for DL like the 'NGF' inserts were when they were released to the public.
-BUT- splitting the insert up into sections like that does'nt sound like a bad idea!!
This is why I ask for the input so we can create a STANDARD and keep it this way..No more CRAP here and there.... Just one format we can all come to some agreement on.

EPS files and BMP files, and split them up in chunks with WinRAR.

All of the inserts I made, same with Nick_th_fury & Jeff Kurtz were made in Adobe Illustrator and save in the Illustrator EPS format and in BMP format. Thats way you can take them to a print sshop and get a nice print, or print it from home if you do not have Ill.

No jpeg, that format is horrid.
If it has to be a raster based, than bitmap
is the most usefull I have found.
There are many formats better than bmp,
but its the only one that pretty much everyone can use. Windows or mac.
Through my own personal experiance,
I found bmp guranteed me the least amount of complaints.

It also zips up nicely, so its good for
the internet.

I say split archive them into 8-10 meg pieces.
What that means, is to get a 20 meg file
you download the 2 pieces, then a prog will
piece them back together into 1 zip file.
Its very easy, & will help analog modem users alot.

I really like the idea of breaking the insert down into 3 parts. The spine,Front Cover and Back Cover..what do you think about this since your an EXPERT IMO on this subject. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Honestly, I wouldnt.
Its not a problem, but so many people do not want to have to edit it at all.
& I do mean, At All.

I know its very easy to splice & repiece spines & the panels.

However many people are not very computer savy.
Its a chore just to print these as is.
If you splice em, many people will be unable
to get them back together.

If its a good ftp, they shouldnt need to.
Download may take awhile, but it will eventually get there.

Either way, it wont hurt the quality a bit.

REAL INSERTS, ABSOLUTELY.....
The Inserts I talk about are the ones only NGF received from SNK's digital files like that GANRYU insert!! <IMG SRC="smilies/tickled.gif" border="0">
I could'nt resist LOL! When I found out about this I almost fell out my chair!
Lemme go pour a nice cold glass of 'HOME CART' LOL!
Anything in your home can be considered a 'HOME CART' LOL!! <IMG SRC="smilies/eek2.gif" border="0">

If someone prints the inserts at home without a large paper capable printer, they'd have to split them up anyway. I did the labels from Garg's this way, turned out great. Also, he has them in high quality JPEG, they look pretty good.

Not really, most people can easily have a
small shop like kinkos print them out for them.
This usually gives a nicer look & higher quality than most home printers anyway.
& cost is very cheap.

jbeedham:
What real inserts would you be wanting?
There are none for many games.
SNK never made them. Unless your just talking about games that were officially released.
But many MVS games have no insert made. Other than fan based ones of course.

Just like Nick I use eps files to save created inserts, doesn't take as much space
as bmp files. And the overall quality is extremely good. So i would go for eps.

im making inserts via a computer connected to high quality colour copier...

i use corel9 to start them from scratch...

most copy shops have this (in the uk anyhow) and take my files and run them straight through.

therefore the qualitys miles better than a straight colour copied insert.

and if you use that expensive paper... wow!

im going to put details on the best ways of outputting inserts and labels on my parlour soon.

What resolution has been decided on? I suggest 200 dpi. Big files, I know, but they make for awesome prints.

Also what will be on the site? Just the orginal home cart scans? Or all of our homebrew stuff too?

ALL Inserts are WELCOME but the FORMAT should be a 'STANDARD', I don't want different formats.Just ONE FORMAT we can all use so it'll be BMP I guess
Nobody should have a problem with BMP correct???
FTP going up very soon...I know Nick has a site that's dedicated to this...I don't know if he would accept but thinking about donating the space to him. People can send in their donations/dl whatever they wish
still looking in how to handle this...
I want to keep this as simple as possible...
maybe add other stuff in the future such as manuals, etc. want to build on it.

I went to Kinkos today to ask a few questions. The guy at my Kinkos said that in order to print out an electronic file, it needs to be in .pdf format. Sounds strange to me, but what do I know? If you bring a file other than a .pdf, they charge you a fee to convert it. Are all Kinkos the same way?

Most print shops should be able to print up just about any file. Most places prefer .eps or .tiff because of their high quality. You should be able to print up just about any file format though especially at kinkos (they are huge)

Yeah, the guy at the Kinkos I went to said you can bring him any file format, but he has to change it to .pdf. And for this he charges a fee. This makes no sense to me at all. Is this normal for Kinkos?

No its not.
however They can make rules like that if they want.
Stupid, but not all kinkos are the same.
Personally I detest pdf, its a pain.
It doesnt always give you the same results.

I prefer eps, its the best, but tiff or bitmap is useable by a larger # of people.
