Return Report From Las Vegas

This past weekend, yours truly spent some time throwing many a dollar down the drain in Las Vegas (which is the hottest damn place I have ever been mind you). After my first 3 hours, I was $150 down. Not very fun at all.

The next day, I didn't feel like losing any more money (although I did) and I had Dion's number written down. After debating whether to call him or not I did. I had no idea what to expect, I only saw pictures from the internet.

Dion met us (my brother, some friends, and myself) at the Monte Carlo Casino lobby in time for dinner. My first impression of Dion was that he came across as a very personal and smooth all around guy. Super nice--he picked us up and drove us all around Las Vegas, (which is a huge pain in the ass) ate dinner with us, we went out and drank at bars, gambled, and he even stood back and watched us get turned down over and over by some hot ass chicks...

The next day he came by the hotel and picked me up to take me back to his pad to watch some NHB fights and check out some Neo Stuff.

--------------UNBELIEVABLE-------------------

The amount of stuff that I saw was just unbelievable...here is a reacap:

The Neo Geo Pocket Station- full proto...It even had all the SNK logo and "official prototype" stuff on it. It looked kind of big, about as long as a small shoe box, but I am sure that if they had stuck with it and developed it it would have been much smaller. It had support for a/v cables, s-video, rgb...it was bad ass...

I also saw page after page of ORIGIONAL art works for the following games:

World Heroes Perfect
Gowcaiser
KOF 99 and 2000
Breakers
AOF 3
Areo Fighters 3
Shock Troopers 2nd Squad

This things are the origonal works of art...The same works that were used over and over again on the back and front of the carts and inside the pages of the manuals.
**They were even signed by the artists**
(For the artists out there, the guys at SNK weren't perfect...they had tiny smugges of white out that they used to correct the art on the paper)

Along with art work I saw origional digital picture screen shots sent from SNK to Dion that were used in manuals, and were offered in case NGF wanted to make a magazine. The were in slides that you had to stick up to the light to see them. The games were numerous but the ones that stick out in my mind are Metal Slug 3 and WHPerfect.

Oh--I saw an intire binder dedicated to all the characters in the unreleased game Pair Pair Wars...they were definetly molded for the Japanese Anime fans....they were small cute looking little things with huge eyes..

He also had another binder dedicated to all the MVS artwork that you get with each game, English and Japanese. Page by page of each MVS released cart with dip switch, mini marq., big fold out art, and character stickers. Each page was the front English, and the back Japanese of the same game. ---I used to be an MVS collector and that really freaked me out to see that all together-- He also had membership cards, full color and great quality with SNK characters on the cover...

For the Neo Geo CD fans out there..he even had another binder completly dedicated to EVERY CD game ever released complete with their art work and All the spine cards...The coolest thing about that was that he had them in order their order of release date..I was very impressed

I shouldn't have to mention this but he had every single AES cart...(EVERY ONE OF THEM)
Including some that I have never even heard of until then..

Cross Swords 2 -complete...the art work was kick ass!

Warlocks of the Fates--complete--I would have taken a picture but I didn't have a camera at the time...it was bad ass though

Other notables were IronClad, Zupapa, Neo Pool Master, Bang Busters, Fun Fun Brothers...I mean this stickers looked clearer than SNK stickers...I wish you guys could see them...

AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WONDERING...

I played them all. All of them. Some were pretty damn sweet like Cross Swords 2, but I didn't really like IronClad. School started this week so I might have time this weekend to post a review for EACH of the carts in the Review section.

I still remember pulling up in his drive way and he clicked open his garage door and there were nothing but NEW AES carts EVEYWHERE...ALL OVER THE PLACE...I was amazed...It felt like walking into a Babbages that is completely dedicated to the NEO GEO...stuff all over the place...I couldn't believe it.

I got to play the Neo Type 2 cabinet with the LCD screen...that was bad ass...The only thing I wish was that the LCD screen was a bit bigger...

Also....I know I have been a nay-sayer from the start--but I have seen Official SNK:
Documents
Reciepts
Bank Drafts
Faxes
Personal Letters
Distributor documents
...all VERIFYING NGF as the official distributor for AES products in the United States....Bash me if you want...I saw it with my own eyes...and I couldn't believe it but I do now...

He even had letters from some Shiek in the Abu Dhabi that orderd Mark of the Wolves and an English KOF 2000...a SHIEK...incredible..

Along with the Neo Geo World mat and other prized collectibles I got to flip through some of the NGF magazines...although they were in Japanese I got to see page after page dedicated to screen shots and combos for all kinds of games including the KOF...

I keep remembering more even though I was only there for a couple hours...

He had an entire binders dedicated to character cards...Last Blade cards...WH cards...just too many damn cards...

Oh-he also had like 5 or 6 upright arcades for classics and the neo. There was also a 3-D stand up ad (like the ones you see at video game stores) for Mark of the Wolves...it was just amazing....

Sigh, sad really. Lets say NGF really are the official us distributors, That makes all the crooked things they have done twice as bad. I mean being an artist I'm really impressed he has original SNK art.But No matter how "nice" they are, the crimes they have commited against the Neo Community are unforgivible. Period.

What they were suppose to distrubute was a none freaked kof2000 cart. instead they went through all the trouble to fake it with thier URL and info making it worthless. ANd you know if they do a sengoku 3 they will ruin it as well.

Sure he is a nice guy in person. Sure he has a hugh Neo collection.

This is a true story for you newbies in the Neo Geo world who are just getting into the scene, to help protect you from getting ripped off or worse. There have been many flame wars and bitter arguments over what I'm about to discuss, but not too many people know what has gone on to cause them. I will try to explain as best as I can to help clear up the confusion, to hopefully enlighten you so that you might understand. A lot of this was trimmed down due to the massive amount of words that were exchanged in these instances, but besides that, here is the truth...

#1 Neo Alec

I, Gui_Long, starting hanging out at Neo Alec's web site around August of '98 (my dates may be a little fuzzy, so please bear with me). There were a few flame wars, which were a lot of fun. That's where I met my fellow "Devil" LORD SAMHAIN who was trying to sell me Orochi Blood. The flame wars kept escalating, and we eventually got kicked off the boards. Now, I wasn't honestly paying attention to the "General Discussion" section of Alec's site, and had tended to stick to other parts of Alec's Forum. I had hardly noticed this guy claiming to know EVERYTHING about the 16 bit Neo*Geo system in that section. The person was none other than Dion Dakis, running around dubbing himself the ultimate guru of the Neo*Geo world. He was seen lying to people, insulting them, and telling them that all SNK MVS carts produced were also made for AES Home system as well. Like I said before, I hardly noticed him...

#2 Refugees

In December of '98, more and more people were being kicked from Neo Alec's board in his attempt to establish control over everything. One of the older Yahoo Clubs known as 'Southtown Neo*Geo Land' was more than happy to welcome us from Alec's board. Dion and I finally confronted eachother at this point, arguing how the way he talked down to people (which he still does). He sent me a threat by E-Mail, which I laughed off, and with that he left in a huff. Dion then created the club 'Neo*Geo Heaven' in which he told me that "if you're so big & bad you'll be at Shodown 99" (a get together for Neo Fans). I stated that I wasn't trying to be big and bad, I just generally wanted Dion to stop calling people stupid morons so we could all coexist happily.

#3 DolphinLord

Around January 99, consumed with my anger at Dion, I posted a Flame at SNKILLER'S request. The intent was to back him up over his and Dion's argument, in which Dion was trying to prove to everyone that Samurai Shodown V was coming out in six months. Dolphinlord deleted this post, and soon after, he deleted his entire website. SNKILLER came to me, and asked where the post was. So I went back to the board to look, and when I couldn't get in, I thought I was banned. I got mad at Dolphinlord then, because I was under the impression that he had banned me...I didn't realize he had deleted his site. This created a few nasty sparks between us, which lasted for about 7 months. During that time Dolphinlord opened a new club. I found out later that Neo Alec had sent him an email regarding his site, saying that it was very much like his own. Dolphinlord overreacted, and fearing some sort of legal action, chose to delete his site.

#4 SNK Neo*Geo War Room

This Club, which still exists, was opened for those who want to flame and curse out people such as Dion. Billkwando (The Owner of SouthTown Neo*Geo Land) created it to keep the flames I kept posting off of his board. Dion, despite being active in all the other Neo*Geo clubs, never joined that one. I later acquired leadership of this club as founder, and ended up not using it much at all. Elsewhere at the time, Billkwando was kicked from Neo Alec's board for seemingly no reason whatsoever. I later discovered that Alec thought an edited picture of "Hells Chello" was posted on the board, and Alec thought it was Billkwando's doing. Alec said nothing of his reasons, however, and deleted Billkwando from the board. Billkwando became very angry at Alec, contacted all of his friends that posted, and told them to join a club where they would not get deleted for no reason.

The picture "Hells Chello" was an actual picture of Neo Alec that 'Sleep' had edited to look like a Big-headed Devil with a chello. It was intended to prove a stupid point--that Neo Alec looked 'Evil'. As a result, five people were kicked from the board.

#5 Neo*Geo HELL

Soon after all of this, Dion was caught selling converted carts with fake inserts and stickers. I had thought Dion was just an asshole before now, and was surprised to find out he was a lying thief as well. He had advertised that every cart included all the original materials, especially the manual. He was caught selling photocopied inserts for Super Dodgeball, Shock Troopers, and other titles. The items he had called original were nothing more than cheap, fake printouts, definitely not from SNK, which he offered for the "oh so low" price of $900.00 a pop. So Neo*Geo Hell was opened, somewhat because of the desire to establish a place to discuss Neo Gaming, but primarily to inform people about Dion's lies.

#6 The Loser

Dion steps forth once again to prove what scum he is. In a rather stupid move, he claims that Shock Troopers 2 will not be released on home cart. Of course, a short time later, SNK does in fact release the home cart. Faced with this, Dion tries to publically inflate his ego, saying SNK did it to "keep him from having an exclusive home title." Dion had made his own fake Shock Troopers 2 cart, U.S. version (complete with fake U.S. sticker), and tried to pass it off as a "rare" official release that only he had recieved. His trickery was immediately pointed out, so then he tries to save face by hyping his cart sticker, saying he "wanted to compare it to SNK's to see whose was better."


#7 The Thieves strike again.

Dion's poor business practices start to surface. He tries to purchase the entire stock of Metal Slug X carts from SNK USA, so he can make "limited edition cart casings" (meaning the actual plastic PCB casing) that were orange in color. This, of course, would give him the ability to ration them out to whomever he wanted, and charge whatever ass-gouging price he desired, forever claiming they are "rare" titles. When his ploy failed, he threw a fit like a child, and tried to discourage everyone from buying the game, claiming it would not be rare or worth anything. This failed as well, and the game sold in droves in Japan and the U.S., making it a fairly rare title to have due to its scarcity.

#8 Supersellers

Billkwando discovers around this time that Dion had ripped off Shinichirou Mukaigashira, the owner of Supersellers, for about $600.00 worth of Neo carts. In response, Shinichiro-san discouraged everyone from dealing with Dion, outlining what a thief he was. Some of the older guys on the scene might remember this memento I kept that proves Dion's guilt:

This conversation was about a Super Dodgeball cart. Dion had told everyone that he was buddies with Shinichirou-San, constantly trying to pretend they were good friends. With the above evidence, he was caught in another lie, and it was proven again that he was a total thief. Lord SAMHAIN later confirmed this as well.

There you have it. Some rather nice proof that even if Dion has all this shit, he's still a fucking crook for lying to all his customers.

Big Bruno put it as well as I would have. I have little doubt that NGF may have had some sort of deal with SNK (whether it was exclusive is a whole other debate), but after that whole kof2k insert fiasco they mucked it up. And that was only their first "official" action.

Oh surprise, someone else who mysteriously "happened" to run across dion in a matter of a week. Coincidence? More like damage control.

When "NGF" can prove to someone *trusted* that they own all these supposed proto carts then that's fine, but lots of people have met dion but magically, you're the first to play these games. Sounds ever so slightly fishy, like someone's trying to pull the prawn over our eyes. If dion has all this stuff to brag about, why hasn't he showed actual photographic proof of these dubious documents and such from SNK. We all know he'd be eager to shove them up our noses. I won't call you a liar, but it seems all too unpikely that you magically reach dion in LV when Mouse Master TOLD dion he was coming to LV, dion said he'd be home, yet Keith called him repeatedly, and dion never answered and seemed to be trout of his house, yet when Keith got back to Maryland dion claimed he'd been home the whole time and the phone never rang. What a surprise!

Funny, you described the exact scenario dion used to when he talked about how hospitable he is when folks come to Vegas, even down to watching them pick up girls. Is he like some kind of tour guide or something? ...because it sounds like either you've been duped by dion's paint-by-numbers hospitality routine (eerily so, why would he do the EXACT same things with every person he claims to meet? Nobody's ever claimed to have watched a movie with him, or driven bumper cars..) or you are NGF or one of their lackeys.

Either way, until one of the well known people in the scene sees dion's proof with their own eyes, it will still continue to be redundant rhetoric.

What's funniest is that nobody here who has their head on straight even CARES about dion, so why do people try to plug him here?

Shit, maybe we should call the National Enquirer in on this: they've got more pictures of UFO's, Bigfoot and Elvis (often all hanging out together, I might add) than anyone I know. My guess is that dion is attempting to resurrect his long-dead credibility. Too many people have heard about his scams, and he is finding fewer and fewer suckers to peddle his shit to.

Well, I hear alot about how Dion fucked a lot of people in the past, but I wasn't there, so it really isn't my buisness. I do find a lot of what he says to be pretty obnoxious and funny, but I have gotten some help from him and Chris at NGF, but that's off topic. As for Mike being Dion, well I don't know him, but seeing as how he's such an early member, him being Dion and lasting on these boards with out being flamed out of here would be a real feat. Mike is being flamed because he's basically promoting and complimenting someone who has done a lot of damage to our hobby. He's chosen to ignore all the negative actions by Dion, and focus on one meeting with the guy. In doing so, he encourages new people in this hobby to consider dealing with NGF, even after the ridiculous debacle of the KOF2K fake English carts surfaced recently.

Periodically we get confused people who post this kind of trash, Atariguy being the other example recently. They can post this stuff, and I and others can respond to counterbalance their statements. That's all I did, and I don't apologize to Mike or Atariguy for anything I said. If anything, I'm helping newbies by preventing them from being ripped off.
