Legend of the Lone Wolf has always been the translation of Garou(Wolf) Densetsu(Legend of). There isn't a direct translation of Garou in english, but you can preceive it as "Lone Wolf" by how SNK has referred to it.

I think that is the literal translation, but I think the connotation is "Lone Wolf."

I though the translation was "Hungry Wolf" (but I never checked).

"hungry wolf" huh... interesting.
did you say CHINEESE characters?
btw, thanx for the replies everyone. my curiosity stems from my want to get a Garou
tattoo. just want to be as accurate in my understanding of the words meaning.

It is indeed Hungry (actually "Starving" or even destitute is a more literal translation) Wolf. Damn, most Korean I know can read Chinese chr, except me--came to US, before I could learn it in school

Yeah, SNK also mentioned Terry as a lone Wolf, but Garou stands for Hungry Wolf. I forgot.

Guess maybe I should change my Lone Wolf PSO chr to Hungry Wolf--actually, I will use both. They sound cool

HEY FOMAMAN, I am thinking of getting A GAROU tatoo as well. it will be bad ass. I will get that or this tatoo that A KOF character has on his chest(I dont know which character it is). I dont want it to be A permanent tatoo thi=ough, probably one of the temporary 5 month tatoos.

Now then who is the Hungry Wolf that's referred to in MotW? Most people say it's Rock, but then there's Terry and don't forget about Gato who is a kung fu fiend and has a scar on his back.

Garou Densetsu does NOT mean just hungry wolf, it means the LEGEND of the hungry/starving wolf. Densetsu is "legend". It's a very popular Japanese word.

What's a temporary 5 month tattoo?

I only know those sticker ones (which are not very good) that wash off easily, or real ones which you can never ever get rid of short of ripping the skin off.

Get a hema tattoo, or something like that. It last for about 6 weeks. I got one in Ibiza, Spain when I was backpacking through Europe. It is from a natural black ink and there is no pain involved, just patience. There are places in the US that give hemas, try the net to find one near you.

Does it mean hungry or lone?

It can mean EITHER or BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY depending on the context.

The Chinese characters mean lone wolf, but the kanji characters, while looking the same in both the Chinese and Japanese languages, have slightly different (and in some cases completely different) meanings. Most all of the Japanese kanji characters can mean several different things or just one concept that encapsules many things. That's why Legend of the Lone Hungry Starving Wolf can fit into Garou Denetsu.

Lone Wolf is Terry's nickname because it sounds cooler than Lonely Starving etc. Wolf.

Also ALL of the characters in the Fatal Fury games are lone wolves in one way or another IMO.

I've heard the word garou used many times and i remember once it was used to refer to a werewolf or something like that. My guess is garou means wolf in some other language. My guess is German.

Mike Tham is correct actually, a LOT of words in the modern Japanese language were taken from other countries that they traded with. There's a few words in the Japanese language that originated in England, Germany, France, and Portugal. o_O;

I'm almost positive that garou means werewolf in French but I can't remember, PrOzErG can you give me some help on this?

lurker, they are done the same way regular tatoos are done(with A needle)except they use A temporary ink that begines to fade after A few months.
I would never get a permanent tatoe, ESPECIALY of anything game related. I dont want that shit on my wrinkled body when i am 85
