Why are serial numbers being ripped off MVS carts?

I have about 30 or so MVS carts and a 3rd of them have their serial numbers cut-off or ripped off. Is there a reason behind this? Should I be concerned that these are bootlegs and not real SNK made carts? If so how can I check?

I would recomend reading some of the old posts in concern to the carts you have, I think you will find all the info you need there.

MVS carts are sold to specific markets. The source of a particular cart retailer can be traced via the serial number. Many vendors don't want SNK to know that the cart they originally sold to a Japanese distrib ended up in the US. That's why. Pretty weak if you ask me. Like SNK has time to track down who sold a Japanese AoF2 to some guy in the States.

Ryo is quite correct, these games were not intended for private use, and a lot of the arcade suppliers who sell them off when they get old, remove the serial numbers first. That way there is no come back on them!
Same happens with "slot ones" and such.

Do you mean that there would be way for us to know where do our carts exactly come from ? That would be pretty cool ! <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0">
Just imagine a cart sold in Japan on sale on Ebay by an European guy to an American one !!! Let's ask SNk for their DataBase !
