NGF is not full of crap!!!

I am fully aware that I will be flamed to death for this one.
I was at the Classic Gaming Expo and discovered something interesting at the NGF booth, they have every proto that they clamed to have. The even took one apart to prove that it was real. I am having trouble remembering exactly what carts were there (I took a red-eye home this morning and am still a bit groggy), but here is what I remember them having:
Iron Clad AES
Pocket Station (allows you to play NGPC games on an AES. I would've bought a home system if this came out)
2 different Neo Geo modems
an unreleased NGPC package (came with new style NGPC and some gambling game)
pre production All About SNK books
Neo Geo World mat
assorted food items from Neo Geo World
One of those devolopment things that allows you to play Game Boy Color games on an N64 (not neo, but still cool)
an unreleased cart that they only sell to people who have ordered most everything else from them (unfortunately I can't remember the title right now)
It's too bad there wasn't enough room to put a TV in and play these <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

They also seemed like rather nice people who wouldn't pull the crap that people claim they pull.
From the amount of protos, and the package they showed me that was sent to NGF from SNK, I'm pretty sure their SNK connections are real. Neo Geo Freak is a good company that doesn't deserve the crap it gets.

Their booth was very crouded. They barely had enough room for all their stuff.

I was at CGE also and want to share a slightly different perspective. You're correct that the two proprietors of NGF came off as very nice guys. Unfortunately, you ignored the fact that they exhibited behavior which proved to me once and for all that they are not official SNK distributors by any means.

1) I personally believe their protos were real. I saw the carts and was suspicious that they didn't bother to bring a TV or hook up a system which they could easily have done since they had like 10 of them at the booth for sale loose. However, it was clear they have some connections inside SNK Japan. My guess is they know a person or two on the shipping dock or perhaps even an engineer looking to make some cash on the side by selling them unique items. That doesn't mean they have an official relationship with SNK in my book. After all, why would SNK send protos to a distributor when they have no intention of selling them? The fact is nobody does this.

2) Their prices were outrageous. Of all the carts they brought to sell literally only a handful sold and those were mostly very old US version games that they sold at like $40 each. Nobody was interested in their $300-$500 games let alone their $5000 games which just blew me away.

3) They tried to auction a device used to make back-ups of Neo Geo games at the Saturday night auction with a reserve of $600. If they really were official SNK distributors, why would they own let alone try to sell a device whose only purpose is piracy? The answer is because they're not official SNK distributor.

4) They tried to sell an item they claimed was a Game Boy Color developers device or Wideboy. I actually saw this thing up close and it clearly was not an official Nintendo "wideboy" as they are known. It has no Nintendo markings and in fact, it had a professional printed "Wideboy 64" logo on the front. This was obviously a hong kong developed device and certainly not what Nintendo has nicknamed the wideboy.

Overall, they have hurt Neo Geo collectors over the years. When Videogamedepot and NCS was willing to sell all those excess Neo Geo carts and CD's at discount prices, they swooped in and bought them from under them. Then they had the nerve to claim they did it to help the collectors community. Their only motivation was to restrict supply in my opinion and jack up prices. That's all I have to say about this.

NGF is not full of crap, they are full of SHIT.

I remember when I first bought my Neo Geo CD. It was a while back...

I was looking to get some games. Being a Fatal Fury fanatic, I couldn't help but notice a low priced CD auction on EBay. I won the auction (Both Real Bout and Real Bout Special for around $20, both new!). I had no idea why no noe else bid on this auction. The address where I sent payment was Neo Geo Freak.

3 weeks later, I received my games. The manuals had been exposed to water, and the CD cases, broken and cracked, were not offical Neo Geo CD cases. The insert to Real Bout Special was torn. They had scratches on the games, and Real Bout had a hard time working properly all the time. I had to replace both games within a month's time.

Nice guys, huh?

LOL, did you even think they could just buy a Baseball stars, take it appar, and write Iron clad on it ? LOL. The game was shown in MVS format at the March 1996 ACME show in Orlando, Florida, and I know by the fact one MVS Ironclad is somewere, in the world, but NGF having that ? No Way man, why cant they just put their fucked Baseball stars cart in a Neo-Geo Cart system, and just play it ? So we can really see if its real, now thats bull shit.
