According to Eolith, Sinkiro, one of SNK's main illustrator
left the company and moved to Capcom.

They didn't specify the new illustrator but Tonko is most
likely to be in charge of upcoming KOF arts.

SNK's 4 main illustrators:

-Shinkiro: KOFs, FFs, MSs, AOFs
-Senri Kita: Samurai Showdown Series, Nakoruru (PC game)
-Hiroaki: Buriki one, KOF2000 title image
-Tonko: Last blade, Mark of the Wolves, KOF R1&R2

OH my, is this confirmed?

What a shame, though I'm sure Tonko can make some nice illustrations.

Just curious... Who did the cover art for Final Fight One on GBA? What SNK artist was it?

Remember when I posted something about cover art of Final Fight One? I was suspicious that the SNK main illustrator is working for Capcom and now it's truth.

Too bad.........
I love his art works...he's a great artist.
SNK/Aruze can't "afford" his salary or just "laid off"???

Tonko is very capable with his past track record. I think we will have nothing to worry about. Maybe we'll see a more colorful, cartoony look to the KoF's, like SFA, Last Blade, and MotW. This sounds like a good thing.

Shinkiro's artwork defined the SNK look in my mind. It's his art that is presented in the SNK groove, in the current VS versions and it is his art that best represents SNK's most popular characters. Now that he's at Capcom, we may be treated to higher volume of his work, which is great, but I will be saddned not to see Terry and gang represented by his pen in the future (unless the Cap v SNK thing just keeps on rollin').

Cartoony look? You mean you actually want KoF to look like shit? KoF, looks perfect the way it looks right now.

P.S. Shinkiro...come back!!!

We have to put ourselves in his shoes. SNK is not really banging out games like they used to. I glad we'll still be able to see his work on the next best company, than not at all.

At least he's still in business to provide us with new great artwork <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Too bad he's no longer working on KoF artwork. He has definitely been one of the best SNK artists ever. I really liked his style.

I hope Tonko will not be in charge for KoF2001 artwork...I don't like the style he uses (especially in MotW).
A cartoony look is the last think KoF needs.

Someone got an answer to Liquid Snake's question? Why did he quit his job at SNK?

I think that sucks that he is not doing art work for SNK, but seeing that cover art for Final Fight one reminds me of another walk around beat up he did: Burning Fight(cool game).

I think Art of Fighting was his first work (?)

Maybe he was not happy with the direction the company was headed? Who says he left? Maybe SNK could no longer afford his talent.

I rather like Tonkos artwork, and think it would compliment KoF nicely. It could use a little new blood.
