Metal Slug 3
Wow, what most call the greatest Neo-Geo game ever. What some call the greatest action/adventure game ever. What few call.. possibly the greatest game ever. I don't know how many hours I spent thinking about getting Metal Slug 3 and playing it for endless days. I strived for that game. Then the re-release everyone was so happy! We were ALL getting Metal Slug 3. Then I got the game, and popped it in.
Let me say that I am a HUGE fan of Metal Slug. I have played it for years and enjoyed all of it, all the time. It had a military feeling, that existed completley in Metal Slug 1. I think the huge fans of this game go into the mind that the military feeling WAS Metal Slug. Perhaps if the aliens and robots ect. were introduced to us in 1996, maybe we would expect all of those things. But I don't know, but I can say that I wasn't pleased with MS3.
In my mind, when I see Metal Slug, I see busting through a forest of armored guns, and soldiers firing at me. I cannot invision Man-Eating Plants, Aliens, Zombies ect. This was what I feared Metal Slug would become. When I first started Metal Slug 3, I expected a soldier, or one of those middle eastern fellows from MS2, but what? Crabs? Giant Crabs. That pissed me off. Visually, this game is eye-candy, I mean, this it THE BEST on the Neo-Geo. It's excellent. So are the controls, and so is the sound. But I always have fun-factor. This game is SO not fun, it hurts when I play it. It's very hard, and I can't have any fun when I keep dying. I have no time to enjoy the backgrounds or anything around me.
I sadly can say that I view this is a waste of my hard-earned $300, which could have gone towards Neo-Geo games that I KNEW I love. After about a week, I tired very quickly of Metal Slug 3. Sure, I picked it up on a rainy day, but it never kept my interest for at least twenty minutes. If I had Metal Slug 1, or 2? I would most likley be playing it now. What my point is, is that if you have Metal Slug as Soldiers, tanks, and heavy guns, that this isn't your game. If you can transform that original idea into aliens, robots, and man-eating plants and other crazy stuff, go ahead. For myself, this is not Metal Slug.
