Twisting a Noble Idea to Selfish Ends...

Ah, the United States...a country founded on the ideals of brotherhood among men (and eventually, when foolish men came upon some sense, women as well).

A country founded on freedom...but not just any freedom. The freedom to do good, through intellectual debate, and creativity...to make a product people want, and sell it for a fair price...

...and somewhere along the line, it got twisted up...

The U.S. decided that "freedom" had no boundaries of decency or respect, and that "we, the people" could take what "we" wanted, from anyone, in the name of "our" freedoms.

And "we" really liked land...had to have it. Perhaps it was a hobby...much like Neo-Geo collecting. "We" had to collect it all.

So "we" stole it from the Native Americans, who just wanted to share...played arbitor in biased judgements that suited our selfish ends...

...and it's caused the U.S. a lot of trouble. The U.S. hasn't deserved the violence...no one does...but, at some point, someone should have had the common sense to apologize for the mistakes. "We" still don't, to this day.

I put we and our in quotes, because I am not a part of that group. I will not be a part of the self-righteous "we" that makes excuses for atrocities.

NO one has a right to make excuses for crimes against humanity...for hurting their fellow man (or woman). Not the U.S. OR Bin Laden. NO one has a right to make excuses for RIPPING OFF their fellow man...

Which brings me to my real point...

Some things happen on a large scale, like the current "war"...but here, on a smaller scale, the crime is still a crime.

I get in this argument a lot, with many people. It's about our chosen economy, capitalism.

You see, it was a good idea, to start. Free trade, goods at a reasonable price, friendly competition...

...and then companies like Microsoft came along and broke the rules. Repeatedly. And until recently, there was nothing our government could do...and we hadn't even thought anything was wrong until the implications hit us like a ton of bricks.

You ever hear people from other countries call us "greedy capitalist pigs"? Ever resent that?

Well, you need to wonder who is giving us the bad reputation...

Did you catch what I repeated up there? Fair prices. Friendly competition. Then a few people found a little phrase called "whatever the market will bear", and started using it. And the more people used it, the more confident they became.

Strength in numbers is a very powerful thing.

Now, it's become the battle cry of an ignorant public, convinced that if our greedy, disgusting current standards of capitalism fail, our country goes with it.

How naïve.

Or perhaps it's not...perhaps it's a choice people make, to provide a staunch defense against the real motivation behind their loud opinions...

...greed.

See what I'm getting at, yet?

It's phrases like "whatever the market will bear" that have ruined too many a hobby for good people. It's phrases like "it's his right to charge whatever people will pay" that have made two chumps moonlighting in Vegas wealthy on the money, and backs, of over-funded fools.

It's the twisted bastardization of capitalism that has fueled the dark side of the Neo-Geo gaming community--a club of blue-blooded, arrogant has-beens, hiding behind silly capitalist catch phrases that would make the founding fathers of the United States of America ANGRY and VENGEFUL. I'm sure if they could smite them, they would.

There will be no names. The companies, the people...they know who they are.

But I will say one, very pertinent thing.

Japanese Neo-Geo Silver Systems are 19,000 Japanese Yen. At the current, and usual exchange, that's less than $190. And whoever is selling those is obviously in it to make some profit. PROFIT. The systems cost even LESS than that to stock.

This is a much broader attack than what you think. Don't take a narrow view of this. When the prices get too high, others may make the prices lower, and claim to be so-called "Knights of Justice, bringing the Neo-Geo community back to its original reasonable pricing". Beware of lies, simply put in place to aid competition.

The worst has come to pass...something we never expected. The greed that, in the past, had only infected a small group of outcasts, has infected nearly everyone.

Fight greed. Find honor, dignity, and respect for your fellow man. And keep a handful of selfish individuals from gutting a noble hobby like so many other hobbies have been in the past.

The market will now bear our wrath.

Wasted your time, too damn long to read.

LOL. My motto is to put nothing more than minimal effort into any writing I'm not being graded on. And on that note, I believe I'll be heading off to class...

200 plus shipping, plus transfer fees, plus mediation fees (hardly anyone in Japan ships internationally, so an agent is needed). Of course shipping would be EMS, to ensure prompt reasonable delivery. These add up. $200 in the US is too low a figure. Perhaps $300, or $350, but then the reseller has no reason to sell and make no profit. I mean, one has to make something to keep him/her in the business. Everyone else did (auction seller, agent, postal company). If you have to preach, you should factor in these figures as not to look like a complete ignorant newbie.

Sure $1000 is too much. So what. No sweat off my balls. If some other fool is going to sacrifice his kid's bone marrow transplant to fund a new neo system, let him. No one asked for a sermon about it.

Do you realize how dumb you look when you say "I can't read something that long"? That's one step up from illiteracy...and it's not a very big step.

Well, maybe you'd don't look dumb to your little friends...idiocy loves company, though.

Oh well, the ones with the short attention spans were not my intended audience anyway. I'll be sure to chip in a buck for your ritalin next time you're at the pharmacy, if I see you. :)

No one asks for anything, on a message board.

But I don't see the point of posting if you're just going to advocate your continued apathy towards anything important. But I liked the colorful way you put it...nothing quite gets the point across like vulgarity.

They would be pseudo-intellectual, perhaps, if they weren't full of "convoluted" bad grammar.

Like most females, you don't do a very good job of faking it. :)

Riiiight. Except I don't start threads such as this hoping against hope that someone will stand up and go "MY GOD! He's SMART!". What other reason do you have for such prose? To prove a point? You mock vulgarity when in it's essence and used correctly it proves a point simply and elloquiently more than any other word could.

And as far as correcting my grammar goes...good job. I'm never overly concerned with the spelling of my posts, let alone correcting others. It implies that the one correcting is above the corrected. It's an easy escape for those who choose not to think a reply.

I have three points.

1) No one insults Blaine on this forum but me, got that? Seriously though, attacking him on MERELY a spelling faux pas is in bad taste. If you have a problem with his arguement fine...but your retort has nothing to do with his comment.

2) If you don't like the price...don't buy it. No one is forced to play Neo Geo, nor are they forced to use WindowsXP.

3) This is neither "news" nor "rumors"

This isn't a point but rather a comment...no one likes idiots on high horses. The reason no one likes "capitalistic pig-dog Americans" is mainly because they don't have a piece of the action. In this example, very few people have any other reason besides greed and jealousy in complaining about the recent developments in the scene. They want the stuff...and they want it cheap.

Nah. Your tripe didn't need to be dignified with a thought-out response. It's paramount to someone plugging their ears and singing as loud as they can.

I'd just prefer than people read it and keep their comments to themselves, good or bad. If you don't have the time to read it, you don't need to attack it. It just means you want to spend your time elsewhere. That's just fine.

It's just a bit of my brand of "news"...and like most news, it should be taken with a grain of salt...take all of it, or nothing, or some. It is entirely up to you. Think of it as being no different from a topic like "KOF2k2 IN DEVELOPMENT"...

...believe it...or not.

Hardly the case. I quite enjoy reading. But When I see the topic and a page and a half of rambling, i know it will not hold my attention. It's quite easy to call me illiterate, but it is another to write something compelling enough to catch my eye without sounding condescending. You bucko, start at word one. Try sticking to your own topic.

Hey I understand that totally...but this message board is not your personal pulpit from which you show the masses the way.

A message board implies you expect a response.

If you don't want responsese then, in the future if you choose to shout from the mountain top, do it from somewhere people can't respond. I suggest making a web page where you can write your own editorial.

But...in complying with your wishes (and because I'm getting a headache from this) I will not read your post, any response to this post or respond in the future to your posts.

I already addressed this kind of attitude in what I wrote. Justification of greed. That's why I don't need to dignify it with a response. The response is already there.

I picked at the spelling because mispelling and grammar errors on the net are pathetic. Learn the damned language. If someone points out my mistakes, I'll either defend them or admit to them, but I won't say "bah, it's just the internet, who cares, duhhhhh".

It's a new fad on the internet to accuse people of being "elitist" or "holier-than-thou". I have been using it as a basis to piss people off in chatrooms and message boards for a long time, now. But from using it, I know it has no substance. It's just another diversionary tactic, and a base insult, disguised as humility.

True humility is seldom observed by others...it is not forced, and it only comes out when the situation demands.

So, in closing, I do not intend to sound "holier-than-thou". The thought never crosses my mind...well, except when I think of how many people are going to use it as a weak argumentative defense.

If I look somehow better than someone else, it's your observation, not mine.

But what you might want to consider is this: I'm not exalting myself, but the irrational actions of others may make it appear to be so. Perhaps a stark contrast between normalcy and bitterness?

Hey, Black Night, Kudos for expressing your opinion and keeping a cool head to criticism.

While I do agree that this is neither news or rumor (General Discussion would've been more appropriate), I think its good to have another person's opinion on matters.

I think the reason people are harping on you is that you tend to sprinkle your writing with over-embellished adjectives that could probably either be axed or substituted with more basic (and flowing) words

IMO, the internet is all about being succinct: which is actually challenges a person to choose their words well. Nietzche would've been a great forum poster (and he was opinionated enough to enjoy a place like neo-geo.com)

As a quick example, I'm going to use a quote : "Sorry I wrote you a 20 page letter, I didn't have time to write you a ten page letter" -Mark Twain

Whee, message boards are fun.

Not use it as a pulpit...condescending...

Hm.

Well, I don't see it as a pulpit. If you want to get technical about news and rumors...it's a rumor of something that's happening, and a bit of added opinion on what might be done about it.

As for condescending...

I'm not going to dumb myself down, sorry. If I'm writing a paper, I'll review my intended audience, and write to their tastes. But on a message board, the intended audience is the entire Internet...I can't judge what their tastes are...only my own.

It could be anything from "See Spot Run", to "a/s/l", to "DEVILS ROOL", to "I say, good man, would you pass the milk and sugar? This tea needs a little pick-me-up."

But I think I have your tastes pegged...let me give it a shot:

---

lets just play games, have fun, and buy mvs now that home carts are so expenseve. god leave a man alone for just trying to make some money. thats what are country is all about anyways.

---

Ow, that hurts...

But it's from the heart...the abridged version of my original post. Tell all your friends to scroll down and read the abridged one ASAP...I don't want them to have to be annoyed by the original. It's for some other people I know, I suppose. :)

Bobak...wow, I like that Twain quote. I'm gonna write it down. :D

And I agree...it does take time to revise things down to less. And maybe I should, next time...I'm losing a lot of audience with the "unplugged" versions.

And if it was general discussion, well...you know best. If you can shuffle it there, that's cool with me. Maybe I was thinking of "maximum exposure" when I put it here...

...maybe. :)

Whoa...I WAS adjective happy.

Didn't sleep last night...that's probably why. Sorry. -_-

Just, uh...try to remove an adjective whenever you come across it...jump to the noun. ;_;

What you need to realise (and many people fail to do so) is that the internet is not like the spoken word. While using large words and adjectives makes you sound "smarter" face to face, it can make it seem as if you are purposley trying to sound better than everyone. Online, it is far better to use proper spelling, grammer, and capitalization to get your point across rather than large words.

That, and I heard you eat poop.

A few things:

1) This thread is an 'Unrelated Topic' as others have already said. So I hope someone (Bobak) moves it there where it belongs.

2) This thread just kinda came in out of the blue. You have to get people involved before you dive into big, sweeping issues like the one you went into right off the bat.

3) What exactly are you trying to acomplish here? Do you just want to vent your opinions through a long diatribe, and get them off your chest. so-to-speak?

OR

Do you want people do disagree with you so you can try and prove them wrong/argue with them somehow?

Oh yeah- so let me get this straight: You're an American (Who if your profile is to be believed lives in Japan) who is a Communist, right?
