Nine new Metal Slug 4 screenshots have been posted over at The-magicbox.com;

Is that a pirate getting killed? Maybe it is symbolism.

Let's cut the brand-loyalty crap and admit the plain truth - the pics look like SHIT. Ever heard of milking a name? Well, enjoy watching Metal Slug, a once great series, getting milked for all it's worth. I hope I'm wrong, but so far between KoF2001 (I admit I only saw screenshots since no arcades around me have Neo's anymore, except a few Puzzle Bobbles) and these MS4 pics, the Neo IS dead.

These games need to be reborn on new hardware by developers with talent and love for the games and characters. Not cheap companies looking to squeeze a few last dollars from a few diehard fans.

The Neo IS NOT dead and will never be.

You can't say a game's good or not looking at those screenshots...

This is the plain truth.

SNK is dead... and that's a fact!
This is a fuckin' Korean company (no offence at all, cuold have been a fucking Italian company), not SNK or Nazca...
The name of the game means nothing, it's the game itself that is good or bad...
We'll see, but please, let's stop saying all the time NEO-GEO is not dead, will live on...
The Neo is alive and kicking in our hearts, but that doesn't mean it is so in the real world...
Btw only time will tell, the release date is approaching...

I know it's dead... Like you said, I was just referring to the Neo that lives in all of us...

WE ALL SHOULD BE APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT THERE IS EVEN A NEW GAME COMING OUT. BEFORE THE NEWS OF METAL SLUG 4 CAME OUT, I THOUGHT KOF 2001 WOULD BE THE LAST STRAW. GRANTED THE SCREENSHOTS LOOK BLAND. HONESTLY, IF THEY RETAIN THE SAME GAMEPLAY I WOULDN'T CARE. NEO GEO IS 12 YEARS OLD AND CAN STILL MANAGE TO DELIGHT US WITH GAMES. I AM GRATEFUL.

Thanks for the link Jigen.

I wish I could get excited about this game, but if the screenshots are any indication, I think I'm going to wind up, unfortunately, passing on this one. To me, Metal Slug 1, 2, and 3 are like unique works of art because they were all so different from one another. The backgrounds were intricately drawn and colored with such loving care to detail, it's almost heart-breaking to see bits and pieces of those masterful backgrounds chopped up and thrown together to pass as new material. Sure, Metal Slug may not be thought of in terms of it's backgrounds and atmosphere like the KOF series has from time to time, but it was still a very good drawing point for myself, as I'm sure it is for others as well.

Even with these negative thoughts in mind, I don't think this is any sign of "the end" or anything for the Neo Geo itself. The Metal Slug series? Sadly, but maybe, but there could still be many more gems to come after this.

I sure hope I'm wrong about this game possibly silencing the Metal Slug series. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed too...

To me, Slug hit its peak with X. I was never a fan of the space aliens and giant crab walkers and shit.

I honestly would not mind seeing it either end, or given to a proven developer a.k.a. Treasure.
