Got mine this morning, and I must say it is a very wonderful game! It reminds me a great deal of MS 1, in that it seems to have a simpler approach than the others. MS 3 will still be my fave, but Playmore/Mega has put a great deal of passion into this game, and I commend them for that! Thanks for the New Slug folks!!!!

WOW!
Again other gamers who like the game like me!
And like it a lot!

Where is my favorite negavite attitude-professional-Loopz?

He will teach us we are a bunch of "knobs" or retarded.
Man that's funny.

Great Metal slug 4!

You're the only knob here FTL. Last I checked, you're the only one incessantly pimping the game just to get your greedy chump-ass collector paws on more English releases. If others dig it and are satisfied with their purchases, I'm happy for them. You're the one obsessed with lambasting me for my opinion fucker. Keep this topic up, and I'll just keep owning you on these boards. You're not equipped for this fight son.

To all the other gamers, if you got it, dig it. I just prefer Slug 3. To each his own.

Your is just an opinion.

Anyway, there is no fight at all for me,I just like when I see you online replying with insults against me.
So childish.

Keep up the good work!

FTL,

Yeah, it's a fact that some people like the game.
It's also a fact that some DON'T.

Doesn't make you right, doesn't make me right.

The question here is MOTIVATION.

You're the one who's in cahoots with the Neo Store, doing your best to pimp all the new English releases. Me, I'm just a gamer who loves SNK, and wanted folks to simply go out there and plunk $5 on Slug 4 at an arcade before they go and blow $300 on what I consider to be a big step backwards for the Slug series. You, in turn, took this as some massive threat, because you are the one obsessed with securing new releases.

No matter how much you try to cloud the issue, calling me negative and childish, it is YOU who are the one with selfish, greedy motives. All I did was get on here and say "Try before you buy."

Get your ideas straight asshole.

I got Slug 4 overnighted to my house as well and I have to say I like it quite a bit. I certainly can see where Loopz is coming from with the rehashed bits. It seemed like they wanted to squeeze every bit from previous slugs in for at least half a level. Zombies and Mummies? Still I feel some of the criticism is a bit undue, it is Metal Slug 4 and you don't get to 4 in a series without either a bit of rehash or a total workover(which hopefully they will do if they decide to make another slug game). A couple standout cut and paste moments for me were the arabian guys with swords and the mummies/zombies. They just didn't fit with the pacing of the game or the level they were on. The game is fun and a bit more challenging than past games in the series. I noticed the grunts trying to fence me in with the regular grenades and the ones they roll along the ground while other grunts took shots which I don't remember as much in the past slugs. I also like how you unlock a few pictures of the characters when you beat the game. Have previous aes games had unlockable gallery modes?
I have to say Slug 3 is a better game, but considering that it's my favorite shooter/platformer of all time that's a tough act to follow and it wouldn't be the first time a series has been unable to hold up to a superb title released earlier in it's life. Is it the greatest game of all time that you have to rush out and buy? No. But if you are a fan of Slug games I would definetly find an arcade that has it(most should soon considering the price of the kit now and the relative popularity of slug games) and give it a play. If you like what you see buy it. I know my friends and I will play this one to death.

And why does everyone ignore the rehashed nature of MSX?

Edited because I can't spell.

Okay - so I'm hearing that MS3 is better than MS4. I'm one of the few people that was let down by MS3. MSX is my personal favorite. Do you think MS4 will float my boat?

Wing Nut,

All I can say is just go find it at an arcade and drop $5 on it before you go and blow $300. I personally think it's the weakest Slug ever. But many enjoy the more militaristic setting. Go and judge for yourself.

As far as Slug X, you have to realize it's basically just a "fixed" (waaaaaaay less slowdown) and slightly remixed (different background colors and bosses switched around) version of 2, and that was understood well in advance by fans of the series.

Got my Slug 4 today and thus far am really liking it. I would say it is a little more like the original so far. Mostly military bad guys, like MS1, although I did tangle with some yetis already. I've only been through a few levels, but am having a BLAST!

The numbers of sprites on screen seems pretty busy to me, and the soldiers are certainly plentiful. The placement of some of the enemy soldiers is good in a lot of cases too, making it difficult to just keep jumping up and shooting on a vertical level, as an example.

Anyway, I am loving mine and was quite happy to get it so quickly!!! SWEET!

I think (that is maybe) there was a bit of slowdown when some trucks blew up and a whole bunch of fruit/turkeys/watermellons/etc. came flying out, but it was hardly even noticable. No more than say MSX or MS3.

I haven't finished yet, and don't anticipate doing so during the day today, but there were some pretty huge things blowing up and it all seemed steady to me.

I was so eager to get it today but it didn't come!
I even dreamed about it last night. Although, I dreamed that it was the worst game ever and the first level was all jumps and no enemies at all. Haha.

RyoGeo,

Glad you and others are digging it. I sincerely hope you guys find the game worth $300. Dmhawkmoon, despite our disagreement, I hope you get yours soon.

Meanwhile, I'm saving up to get back Slug 3. I traded it for a four-slot MVS board, but I want the damn thing back now.

Got my copy a few hours ago.

I haven't seen it all yet, but 1st impression is this is a great game.
Control is perfect, characters are great.
I dig that crazy monkey.

Vehicles seem a bit over done, makes me feel alomst like I'm hoping out of one right into another.
Other than that, it seems great to me.
I really like it.

Just got mine in today!

They even put a really cool poster inside too!

This is the first NEW Neo game I've ever owned! Now I have a much better idea of what MINT really means.

The game itself is a blast to play! It's not as good as the previous installments but it's still fun. It's kinda like the new Star Wars compared to the old Star Wars.

Got my Slug 4 English version today as well. All I can say is, WOW. After hearing negative comments from a few vocal people here, I was really wondering if this game would be worth it at all. Well, I'm very happy to say this games is EXCELLENT! Sure, it reuses some sprites, animations, sound effects from previous Slug games, but it is a very cool and fun Slug game on its own. I'm VERY happy with it, so much that I'm considering getting a JPN copy too! :)

Like the other Slugs, this one has tons of cool little details like small birds hopping around, fruits and food, lots of cool vehicles, some VERY challenging stages where attacks come from many different angles, and some frankly very nice new backgrounds! Some of the fast scrolling stages have simple repeating backgrounds, but thats to be expected based on the style of those stages. There are elements from all the other Slug games here (a very cool mummy stage reminiscent of Slug X, but different!!), yet there are different enough styles and techniques to really make this a unique game on its own.

This is an ARCADE game, so the gameplay is naturally much simpler than other styles of games. I totally disagree with Loopz and a few others here about this one, Slug 4 is a blast to play and very much worth picking up!! Besides, with only 300 English copies produced, its BOUND to be in high demand and very collectible in the near future, right Loopz? ;)

Oh and by the way, the English insert is actually excellent (sure its a bit cluttered and has a bit of mixed styles, but that doesn't bother me, at least it has variety!!). Plus the little color manual is very nicely done inside, great little illustrations and shots! :)
