Looks like Playmore has found a way to fit more megs in a cart

Too bad about the encryption though.....

Nice work Ray!

Holy crap! WTG, Playmore! It sounds like Playmore is preparing for SNK vs Capcom MVS. ;)

It's not protected? No wonder boots showed up so quickly. This is the MVS cart, right?

EDIT- Dag, its the home cart. My bad.

More megs perhaps but not on the gfx board. The gfx board is still the same and it's already maxed out in ms3, kof2001, motw and probably quite a few other games.

Since they made a new program board, perhaps we could hope for a bigger gfx board...

And, what does the mask rom do? Is it used with the bankswitching stuff ?

That's pretty cool really. You learn something every day.

-Actually, I thought we all knew that most of the high meg counts are due to music?

-Thanks for flat out TELLING the bootleggers they can easily go to work on MS4, that's nice of them to do that. grrr

Still a cool read though...

This is why they didn't put the meg count on the package; cause it would make it sound like a lesser game.

or maybe they thought "hey this whole meg count thing sucks, lets concentrate on the actual game instead"

Well the meg count thing became sort of a tradition I think, personally I don't give a fuck about it being posted on the insert. If they were even considering it, I'm sure the lower meg count is what turned them of to it in the end.

Very interesting! Many thanks for that Ray, and also thanks to Lee for bringing the article to our attention :)

If they used the same technology on KoF 2001, that would mean that it has a meg count around the same as Last Blade 2 then...

last time I checked, dreamcast games are still being released, and sega is making more games than ever on multiple systems, i'm a sega player, not a saturn or dreamcast player.

also last time i checked snk is dead, and their system is left to dipshit companies who cant even get the artwork styles right in games...

yea you still get games after 12 years, but when its 2-3 games a year, and 2 of those games are so so to lame, who really cares? so whats the story, morning glory? ding dong the aes is dead.

Dude, where did you hear that bootlegs were showing up already? I haven't heard a thing about that at all, in fact it was kind of a pleasant surprize.

BTW, any word on ROTD Meg count? Does it use the same technique as MS4? Does this mean that and all other games to be released now are going to be unprotected?

Peace

Does this mean that Playmore can make better use of the meg counts? Metal Slug 3 is 708 megs using the old method and Metal Slug 4 using the new method is 564. If Metal Slug 4 was using the old method then would it be 800+ megs? It would be fun (but almost pointless) to see how big all the other Neo Geo games would be if they had used this new method. 24 megabit Magician Lord anyone?

Basically, I'll break this down for you...

Little of that meg count related to gameplay, it was always largely sound files.

They're now making better use of that space.

Now, they can theoretically fit more "game" into their games.

Remember, towards the end of the N64 days, Resident Evil 2 was fit quite nicely onto a cartridge? Now think about what that kind of space could do for a 2D fighter.

sengoku 2001 wasnt tops
kof 2001 was good but not tops

and you called me a "whore"

....

hmmm,okay

you know

i am REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward to snk vs capcom

and i dont want it to have shitty bgs and music cos like 2001 cos neo carts cant get any bigger
