So I finally made it down to Golfland... I went down to play Rage of the Dragons and Metal Slug 4... Nice arcade there. I was also happy to see a PGM running Demon Front, I played that a little.

So, Metal Slug 4, I can't really comment on... we walked away from the machine saying it was way to hard/cheap (but that is probably the level they set it at). It looked alright I guess, it had noticable slowdown... that seems like a step backwords. The first boss was a joke, what the hell was that. All and all, I can't fairly judge the game... we are going to go back on the $5 play all you want day, but it was just sucking too many credits and wasn't all that fun.

ROTD, oh my sweet lord was that game set on hard. The computer moped the floor with me on the first match, it was almost like watching a movie. I stepped forward and into a huge multi hit combo... hehe... But got to play it 2P and it was a lot of fun.... I liked it, the tag option is cool... and I agree the animation is a little lacking, it still is nice to look at. I will be picking this one up later on MVS.

I was also surprised to see the other Neo Geos there... it is cool to see an arcade with so many Neo Geo games. Not to mention the PGM, all the bemani games and Guilty Gear XX... Even an Ultracade with classics like Street Fighter 1 in it :)

And while I am talking about the PGM, Demon Front was kind of cool... I don't think this will be a MS4 killer... but it looks to be a cool game. The first thing you see in the game is a tank that is riped right from MS, I mean directly... the one with the spikes on the front. The character sprites aren't as detailed, but the graphics overall are better.... It looks like a fun game, I would like to play it some more.

Guilty Gear XX was a joke, button masher... I got to the 8th stage (and 2nd place on the machine) by just jamming buttons and moving around... oh well, it looks amazing!!!!! Why can't SNK do this KOF on Naomi?!?! Yeah, yeah I know we have been over that.

Anyway, if you live in the LA/Long Beach, etc area... and you have not been to Golfland... Go... it is really worth it, if not just to see all the Neo Geos!

I've always wondered about ROTD, and how it stacked up to other fighters on the Neo.

Nick: Do you think you could give me the general location of Golfland? No need for directions, if it sounds like its not too out of the way I can just call for directions. Thanks.

Did you go to Southern Hills Golfland? I've been there a couple times. Nice arcade, but a little crowded. It's all crammed into a small area with a low roof.

Directions:

Take the 405 N/S depending on where you are
Exit at Beach BLVD

Address:

12611 Beach Blvd
Stanton, CA

Borders between Fountain Valley/Garden Grove, like 30-40 minutes south of LA.

GGXX a button masher my ass. I don't get why people fuck this up most of the time. Look, if you can play one 2d game, you most likely can play any other one at least decent on your first try! All the down fowards, qcb, hcb punch etc. etc. etc. are their in 95% of 2d games. So therfore its not to hard make it far on a 2d fighter you play for the first time if you are already familiar with other 2d fighters. Also they could have had that GGXX on an easy mode just like they had the other games on hard mode so don't go calling the damn game a masher til you know what the hell you're talking about. GGXX system is more advanced than GGX system and that one was damn good.

Hahaha, that would be fine if I was doing more then mashing buttons. I am not lying here my friend, I sat there and just jammed buttons, I wasn't do anything very complicated with the stick. I was not even doing typical moves... like I said just jamming on the buttons... sometimes I pressed more then one at once... if that counts for something. Don't tell me what I think about a game, that is pointless. GGXX felt like a shallow fighter that is pretty to look at, maybe there is a lot of cool stuff to do in it, but if I can get that far not doing a damn thing, then it is just not a game that requires any skill at all in against the CPU. Is it possible the game was on easy... sure it is... Is it possible that the game is incredible in 2P mode... maybe it is, but as is, the way I played it... pure button mashing my friend.

Nick, one question regarding RotD.

How bad was the animation? Is it 'that' choppy? Even compared to the likes of SS or LB?

It really isn't terrible. It is no MOTW, but it seems to be on par as say KOF. Some characters were a little worse then others, something was a bit off, I can't tell you what, but it didn't look fluid all the time. The boss character, however, has this great grab that is very well animated, and some moves look really good. Overall, it is a pretty fast paced game, when you are playing you don't really notice it, but when you watch someone else play you will see what I mean.

Oh and when you start a super combo... oh man is that cool looking. The screen goes Red ala KOF 97, but with motion blurs in the background. There are also flashy Garou type super backgrounds :) Overall it looks really good when you combo!

Nice to see some people can still enjoy an arcade experience. They're so rare nowadays.

Great to hear that ROTD is a fast fighter ,

MOTW will be a tough game to beat in the gameplay department ,

Combos just come out so easy in MOTW ,

Dude, its fairly easy to combo and such on the game but its NOT a shallow fighter at all. You can a masher can get in combos and decent hits, but if the AI falls for them as much as you claim, then it must have been on easy or the AI sucks. Cause I have mastered GGX's engine and that took sometime, and nobody ever beats me in that game when I have my 4 best characters. There are plenty of cool things you can do with that engine. I can't wait til that game hits home!!!

Well I don't want to offend you, I know you really like the game, and from just looking at it I can see why. I will not be so quick to judge, like I said I need to get back down there on the pay $5 and play all day deal... Then I can spend more time with the games and get a better feel :)

STREET FIGHTER 1???? Damn I haven't seen and played that game since it first came out. That game was fun back then.

How is the gameplay in ROTD?

Sounds like it might be the perfect buisines opertunity for you.

All the miniture golf places here make money like crazy !

Its a blast too.
I was actually going to head to the Golf Land in SUNNYVALE on saturday but ended up at Dave & Busters instead.

The only thing I played was SAN FRANCISCO RUSH 2049 , HYDRO THUNDER , SEGA STAR WARS POD RACER {kinda boaring}and some Skeeball because my girl wanted some stuffed dog.
I got a new beer foamy cooler thingy out of it so it was cool.
Then we watched Scooby Doo.
Velma has a pretty nice rack ! lol
