...So now all we have to do is sit back, relax, and wait for Tyris to get my MVS. Armed with it and his already proven rombanking method, he shall deliver the deathblow and slay this beast known as encryption!

damn, looks like its going to happen. the only good part about all of this is we can finally make animated rips...but other than that this sucks.

Why, regardless of the release of the rom im still buying an MvS of kof2k, a rom is not as good as the origional.
All true game fans should know that.

Man that's a shame, now I guess we'll have to watch out for pirated MVS carts of KOF 2000 as well. Damn pirates!

I really hate roms now, but on the other hand a KOF96 rom got me into the SNK world, then I started buying the Mvs stuff.
Wish I could make an animated gif lol.

I agree with KaiserKRAUSER
on this. Still the possibility exists of moving so fast that all the games are decrypted. Very touchy subject.

To be totally honest, I'm not against what the Neo-0 team are doing. Everyone who is a serious player of KOF 2000 will buy the original game anyway. All of the others would never have brought it , so its not like SNK will lose much money.... but I could be biased seeing as how i'm a Mod at their message boards

I see your point Rain, I have no quarrel with roms in the fact that it is cool to get hold of a game that has gone out a long time ago, like my fave arcade wrestling game "WWF Wrestlefest". Which was removed from my local arcase along time ago.

But in my view roms can also become a cheap way to get games on the cheap, without buying them like most "SNK diehard fanatics"
Making SNK lose money, and the people who bought the game real pissed...
Sadly another debate of a double edged sword.

EDIT, gramatical error, sorry.

Roms got me into SNK and neogeo too, i mean i played Bust-a-move and metal slug in the arcades and i liked them so i got an emulator a while ago, and thats what got me into neogeo. But i am against selling emuaters and stuff. I dont have anything against playing them though. I have an emulaters and i still buy the games and stuff, I mainly use it for making rips, but i do try out games before buying games and stuff.

I kinda agree with Rain.

There are goods and evils to Roms and Emulation..three HUGE goods.

1-First and Foremost it's a form of protection. With complete collections of
ROMs we can be sure that great games like
Samurai Shodown II and rare games like
Fun Fun Brothers don't disappear from the
face of the earth. I mean...one fire, or
spilled drink could wipe Fun Fun Brothers out.

2-Spread the games. A lot of gamers never
played Neo Geo games. Myself, I never had
the money for the 400 dollar system and the 300 dollar games. I made do with bad ports and arcades. This way a new generation of gamers will see how great and beautiful 2D gaming can be...see it first hand.

And

3- I'm impatient. I ordered Neo Turfmaster today at everyone's recomendation and I can't wait until I get an MVS cabinet to play. If that make me evil..so be it. I
own it. Am I not entitled to play it as I see fit? (at least till the DVDCCA verdict
is final)

And the BIG BAD.

Their fucking stealing from the company we love and the hard working people who go out of their way to find and bring legit games to us...I mean, just look at the forums. Some great people doing us a great service.

I don't know..I may get flamed for this but.. that's how I feel. For bad or good.

Unfortuantely No.

I know it's in a private collection somewhere.

I say we do it like the Library at Alexandria.

Whenever someone came to Alexandria they "lent" their books to some scribes who would copy it and then place it on a shelf in the library, giving the copied book to the owner and then thank them for their donation.

I saw we hunt him down, copy it, and give him the original back.

I agree with that, Rom scrubs will always be rom scrubs, pathetic little creatures. Who will never know the real thing.

The real players would buy the carts regardless if the roms came out from day 1.

Yes, there have been many works in history that have been lost due to libraries burning down like the library of Alexandria. Much of the knowledge that humanity had going back to antiquity was in that library and a fire erased it all. Throughout the dark ages much of the knowledge of the world was lost due to the barbarian invasions of Europe and the knowldege that people had during the Roman Empire was gone forever and it took European Civilization a THOUSAND years to regain what was once lost during the time know as the Renassance. I believe that ROM emulations serve the same purpose in its own LIMITED way. As long as ROM'S don't get abused by making a quick buck and ruining the profits of the industry then it is a good way of preserving copies of our precious video game heritage.

Actually the fire did A LOT damage but not total. A lot of important works made it out, such as Diophantes books. They built it back up pretty nice...until....

What really did the library in is the Turks.
Caleph Omar came in and declared that any book that disagrees with the Koran is blasphemy and must be destroyed. Those books agreeing with the Koran are unnecessary and therefore must be destroyed as well.

Once again, religious people making the world safe to live in.

If you'd like to learn more about...stuff... go to your local library.

I think as long as we keep religous folks away from the Rombrary we'll be fine!

That's true but the Islamic world also did a lot of good things for Western Civilization. When Europe was in its Dark Ages, The Muslim world was in its golden age. They advanced the light of knowledge in many fields like poetry, literature, science, and medicine and produced may important people of their time like Ibn-Sina. They contolled an empire from the Middle East to present day Spain and civilization flourished under their rule. Many of what the west learned during the Renaissance had its roots back in the Iislamic world. It was only the Crusades and more importantly the later Mongol invasions of Ghengis Khan that put the Islamic world in ruins and into the end of their golden age. But during its heydays the Muslim libraries of the Middle East were the BEST in the world.

I'm very positive on Muslims, and people in general. However cool Muslim mathematics and astronomy were. And no matter how intricate their writing, and fine the crafts...still... Omar burned the largest store of knowledge the world had ever seen, knowledge that even in our advanced society we STILL haven't matched in some regards (take all of the Pythagorean knowledge the brotherhood produced) because he likes his booky wook.

I'm not saying Omar was a typic Muslim or even that anyone else but himself should be held accountable. Also I'm not damning Muslims, or any religion...
just the people who use them as a sheild NOT to think.

Actually it is the Islam of today that has gone Ammuck. Since the end of their golden age, they stopped their advancments in the arts and crafts and mathematics and astronomy. They have presently become one of the most conservative societies in the world today,--these are the fundamentalist Islamic states like the Ayatollah in Iran and the Taliban in Afghanistan that blew up those gigantic buddha statutes recently. These are the societies that force their women to dress up in veils and put all sorts of restrictions on them. But the non-islamic but yet muslim states are very tolerant. Indonesia, and Turkey thanks to General Attaturk are secular Muslim states. It is the doings of terrorists and rouge states in the Middle East that portrays Muslims to the world as destroyers and savages which is an unfair stereotype.

Well, right now I don't really want KOF2K... I'll grab the rom when it comes out... it may make me buy the game if I really like it I know, I use roms differently then most, but I am kind of excited to see this ROM released. However, I totally agree with the masses here... and yes, I know that now we have to worry about KOF2k bootlegs That, unfortunetly is more SNKs fault than pirates though... I mean, try and buy a legit KOF2k now! Well, looks like that will keep the price high and the demand high, and the demand for bootlegs high as well!!!

This is all the more reason that SNK should make the big switch to Naomi now! It just makes sense.

Haha, that argument always cracks me up.
As if stealing intelectual property was in any form preservation.
Hehe, that just kills me.
Thats like saying, well theirs only one mona lisa,
so we better steal it, & run to kinko's & copy it a zillion times. so it's never lost.

IMO, you preserve a piece a history, buy owning it, & taking care of it.

I'm willing to bet, 50 years from now,
there will be a neo in a museum somewhere.
Preserved with actual mvs Rom Carts.
Not a couple cdr's with rom data on em.

Thats true. The people who makeup these rom excuses always kill me, don't try and BS around it, if you play the roms and dont own the game, or a port of it on another system, your pretty much stealing a game without paying for it.

There are lots of things in this world that are rare, or one of a kind, paintings, baseball cards. And what do we call copies of those? Oh yea, counterfiet's...

The whole rom argument is sooo tired as it is. The bottom line is 90% of the people downloading ALL roms don't own shit!

Because the people that DO own the games, are playing them on their TV's, not donwloading them all day and playing them on their PC!

There are exceptions, for example I play allot of the games I own like Samurai 4 and Alpha 3 online over MAME using the roms. But when i'm not playing online, you think i'm gonna sit at my PC and game? No.

I can just see it.

Security Guard: "Drop the Van Gogh, thief!"

Thief: "But Officer, you do not understand! I am not STEALING this painting, I am just preserving it for future generations!"

Security Guard: "Oh, my bad. Move along then. Where did I leave my doughnut?"
