Everyone that has asked arcade! about the AES 2 has gotten pretty much no reply. So I guess you'll find out about it when everyone else does.

perhaps all the noise made by !arcade! with the AES 2 was just in order to see if many people would be interested in this new version.They certainly had bad answers.

I do not really think this is top secret information.

Those that subscribe to GameGo should have notice that they had a contest for naming the new system. It was going to be announced next issue. At the Neo summit the product will be demo'd along with other Stuff that is to be coming out.

I am sure release dates, price and what not will be announced durning that time.

As of 2-17-01, it was tenetivly priced at $349. No one knows if it will stay that way, but only time will tell. When you consider all it does, it might actually go up.

* MVS and AES compatible
* Credit Active LED
* Audio/Video RCA Connectors
* Enhanced S-Video
* Adjustable Colour Control
* Digital Audio
* Expansion Port (IM?)
* JAMMA Cabinet ready
* Language Selection: USA/Japanese/European

If you want to see a pic, get the latest issue of GameGo! Magazine (Vol. 1, Issue 1) and it's on page 65. You're just going to have to wait until next month like the rest of us.

On the page of the contest, below the pic it says "Coming to a retailer near you". I'd assume it would be available on the web too. Just have to wait and see in August.

If they release it in retail stores it will bomb. The public is not going to buy a system that has no games sitting next to it on the shelves. I seriously doubt that it will be in major retail stores. Would be cool though.

When I spoke to !Arcade! after winning the Super Dodge Ball MVS cart on ebay, I asked him if he sells Neo Cabs. He said he does, but not worth the shipping from where he was at. I told him I had a great Capcom Impress Cabinet, and he said why don't I just wait for this new system to come out. He mentioned that it's going to be unveiled at some Neo convention...I can't remember exactly what he said. Anyways, if what he says is true about the system specs, then I am definitely going to wait. He was very helpful with my questions concerning neo hardware and was a very prompt shipper. He will definitely get business from me again in the future regardless of what bad experiences or negative feedback other have had with him. Great service gets repeated business from me

I just want to know what kind of controllers can we use on it if we use it on a TV with S-Video?? Anyone have any details on this??

Thanks

JC

If price is around $349 then it's pretty good.
I totally agree with NeoTurfMasta that the chance to see AES2 at any retailer is very small. Either no game or $399 price tag will scare people away. Do you think parents will spend $399 for one game today? No way....

Doesn't anyone think that price is a rip off??

I know we all love the neo here, but wake up.

It's 68000 and z80 based. Surely that's only a few pounds worth of chip.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how can it cost so much to reproduce a 10 year old system??

Cheers

Maybe they should just modify a MINI MVS and convert it into a home neogeo that happens to play MVS games....

I also doubt it will be available in retail stores such as Gamestop or EB. If it ever comes out, most likely it will only be a available on the web, and targeted at arcade and hardcore Neo gamers. Liquid Snake is right. No parent will spend $399 on a system, much less a singe Neo cart.

I'd be willing to shell out that kind of money if it plays MVS AND home carts. When you consider a Home cart system goes for about $200 used, that isn't too bad. Converters to play MVS games don't work unless you have high serial #s, and a mod for S-video, etc, costs $$ too. Add all that up, and it's worth it.

Just my $.02

Seriously, it will just be for a select audience, the neo was and always will be a cult market, not a chance it will become mainstream, even if the games were priced at a measily 50 each in the mainstream it would fail, because people do not know the legacy like we do.
That and the issue of SNK having the worst maketing skills.

Just to clarify: The proposed new AES 2 would be capable of playing both the MVS and AES cartridges? Can you simply connect the AES 2 via its standard JAMMA connection into a JAMMA arcade cabinet and play MVS cartidges? I was under the impression that one would have to connect a MVS board to the AES 2 system before playing MVS cartidges. I hope my impression was wrong. Also hope the system is reasonably priced when it comes out.

Opinions:

IF the AES 2 does all these things and makes julien fries, expect that price to quote much higher than you're hoping.

I bet the damned thing is huge...

If it wasn't for Neo-Geo.com , would anyone be considering the purchase of AES 2?

Anyone else expect the price of an AES plus converter to stay less that the price of the new system?

Anyone else think that Arcade is making a mistake, in a business sense? Neo Geo gamers are a small group. A small portion of that group will buy the system. Can they possibly make money by selling 15 of them?

Thats why I think the should release a neogeo console which can run cheaper media for the games... Minidisc for example, or CDR... Game rights can be bought and games sold cheaply. That would create more sales.
