Crystal of Kings Hardware and Release Details

When The Crystal of Kings was first revealed, rumors placed the game on the Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware. Developer BrezzaSoft was quick to dismiss these rumors but at the time was unable to name the new system. Now that the game and hardware have made their way into distribution, we have been able to confirm some details.

U.S. distributor of The Crystal of Kings, Apple Industries, has told us that the BrezzaSoft hardware is called the "Crystal System," and that it is an interchangeable platform similar to the Neo Geo. Future game cartridges will be released "on a regular basis," to quote Apple's president Allen Weisberg.

Yes, here are my thoughts. "OH," "GOD," and "NO!!!!!!!!!!", in that order.

Normally I'd just disregard that, but if it was confirmed with Apple, it's difficult to ignore.

New arcade hardware? Crappy rendered 2D sprites? What, is it suddenly 1994 again? Killer Instinct (a game with rendered sprites that looked better than those screenshots] came and went, and no one cares about it now.

I don't know enough about the game or its release, and we still don't have an official "Brezzasoft is actually SNK" confirmation, but that game really doesn't bode well for the company.

When you go to Brezza's main website, that's the first thing you see. MS4 is what should be there.

Well the PGM hardware is very high quality, games like Knights of Valour/KOV2 and Dodonpachi 2 show that. However, I agree that Crystal of Kings looks like crap . . . but don't blame the hardware for a crappy game!! Seems the developers should have taken a different approach than that ugly prerendered sh*t . . .

Something tells me that we may have another Ragnagard on our hands. Even though the graphics look kinda off-center, I could be wrong. Maybe the gameplay itself could be a lot deeper and elaborate than we think. *snicker*

Could this be the next big thing? I'll buy one if they support the system with decent software.

hahah.
sometimes i wonder if you guys would ever be happy
i dunno.
i think the game looks interesting.
almost like the capcom dungeons and dragons games
just some sidescrollers...
i wonder if this is what they meant when
talking about 3d backgrounds in MS4.
i guess that crystal board would be the one
to handle it.
sorry guys but its time to drop the MVS.
its more than 10 years old.
encryption methods have been broken.
the games are low res.
and the list could go on.
come on.
i love my MVS to fuking pieces but
you gotta see how this goes down in arcades.
people would play capcom v SNK over any kof game.
maybe its because it capcom or maybe its just
that the MVS is dated.
its possible of great things but i m sure the
limits have been reached.
and its never been brought up before but i m sure
the MVS hardware isnt too easy to program for.
i m starting to think some of you are right.
let SNK die.
they need to be reborn.

If indeed this crystal system is a US representation of the Korean Polygamemaster (PGM) hardware, then we are in for a treat. I hear that this system is an EXTREMELY powerful sprite cruncher (like a neo on crack) and that the Knights of Valour series, amongst other games, are amongst the finest 2d games ever produced graphically... as well as just being kickass sidescrollers.
