Chat meetings and the Java Chat client....

Since things are sort of back to normal, I think we should return to our old plan of setting up weekly chat meetings, or even daily ones if people so desire.

Any suggestions for days and times? We use to do a meeting on Sunday nights.

One thought I had for a suggested time for us US/Canadian folks is meeting 10 PM Eastern time on Thursday nights.

Any other suggestions?

Also, what do people think of the JAVA based chat client currently installed on the main forum page? If you have not seen it, it is at the bottom. Give it a try, if people like it, we will keep it, otherwise we will toss it. The number of people it reports in chat will always be inaccurate as it only counts those using it as the client.

One nice feature it has is that you can invite anyone currently using the fourms into chat!

Also, if anyone has some suggestions for changing the display colors of the main IRC window, I will give it a try.

I dislike the bottom chat link as it never knows for sure who is in chat and the link to the left is good enough.I use irc myself and have been going into the neo chat room for about 6 months now even before i joined the forums and its good to see a few more people in there now, Although i live in england i am up till 3 in the morning most days which is 6 hours difference to the time of what the forums are in. but i would say around about 7 30 pm eastern time is quite a good time :)

Mouse good idea about the weekly chat meeting. I think we should have one for the chat users and one for the mods once a week so the users can get to know each other better and the mods can discuss what has been happening in the chat. You guys pic a night and I will be there.

Chat certainly has had a few more visitors in it of late since the link was added back, even before when the link was here not many use to enter as there were lots of bad things said about it but now i feel it is clean and its a great community in there :)

Keep the link. It's a good starting point. Once people use the Java client and get tired of the web timeouts, they will move to mIRC.

I still think there should be a post on how to configure mIRC, and basic IRC commands. Most everybody (including me) tries mIRC with the default server and fails.

Yes, how do we get in using mIRC? I used to be an expert on IRC so many years ago, but can't remember shit now :)
