www.kofonline.com is reporting in the news section that KOF 2001 is heading to the Playstation 2 in Japan sometime between March and July of this year. This is first I've heard of it, and news like this seems like it would be everywhere, since the game is popular enough overseas. It seems strange to me that this game would be announced to come out around the same time as a Neo Geo home cart release as well; that's never happened before.

I'm dismissing this as just another rumor for now, unless someone has a confirmation?

I remember last year at this time, everyone said the same thing about 2k.

I think I'll keep a healty wait-and-see attitude.

Yeah, I've heard this rumor a few places as well. It must be true since it's sort of everywhere. You never know. I'm getting it on AES no matter what, and wouldn't mind if it DIDN'T show up on PS2. Hell, I guess I'm just a jerk.

It would be interesting to see how it is ported, however. Of course, it will be better on the Neo thanks to the joysticks if nothing else. And the lack of loading, maybe. ;)

Well, I'd like to see it on PS2! It can only be a good thing for SNK...or whatever they are called right now

I doubt the XBox will have anything 2D for a while, if at all. But I wouldn't mind it on the PS2, as well. Still, i'm gonna get it for my AES, no matter what. An SNK game just doesn't feel the same on another system. I mean, Mark of the Wolves is a great game on Dreamcast, but it just lacks a certain feel on it, y'know?

Vincent only got that rumor from another site. So he borrow it because it's KOF relate news(DUH)

Now, in the HK interview that was never told, KOF2001 on PS2 now will appear on September 2002.

Same time they're going to have KOF2002 out in the arcades.

It seems somewhat pointless. 90% of PS2 owners are what is considered 'mass market buyers'. One look at the 2D screenshots and they'll drop it. The rest will complain that the PS2 deserves better than a direct port of a game created on a 12 year old hybrid 16 bit system and expect some kind of 'guilty gear' make-over which will never happen. The game will be ignored and lucky to make a release outside of Japan.
Whoever is considering to release the game is looking at the wrong platform. Dreamcast owners would welcome KOF 2000.

What was Capcom vs SNK 2 then, If not a potential financial nightmare, and still it came out... Even as a PAL version!!!

Capcom have a better business sense than most. Alot of there games are made in much smaller production runs than other companies (such as Megaman) allowing to make a modest profit without a warehouse of unsold games collecting dust within it, basically they make as many as they know they will sell. I imagine Capcom vs SNK 2 was producted in much smaller numbers than say Devil May Cry, because they know there is a 'hardcore market' they can sell to, but thats all.
One advantage Capcom vs SNK 2 would have over KOF 2000 is in terms of graphics as it was made on a newer system (ever though cheeky capcom are using sprites drawn from CPS2 games) and looks more up to date, so its more appealing to those obsessed by eye candy.
On the whole PS2 owners expect the 'next generation' in graphics, and KOF 2000 will appear dated. It just won't sell.

I say leave it on AES. This way we know it won't be a) disrespected for being 2D, and b) a good version.

Who knows, maybe people will love it.... yeah right.

This reminds me of when I went to go buy Capcom VS SNK 2.

I went to Funcoland (yeah I know) the day it came out. I was really excited to play this game, cuz I hadn't been able to play it in the arcades (arcades in this part of the country BLOW!!!). Anyway the point is when I was being rung up the asshole behind the counter said, "Hmmmmm, who is SNK?" I looked him dead in the face and said, "You work for a video game store and don't know who SNK is, and don't know what the NEO GEO is?" He said no. I didn't even bother explaining it. What was the use. I simply said that it was really sad that he didn't know who SNK is, bought my game, and left.

SNK is and has been dead to the modern/casual gamer. I'd love to see them make a huge comeback, but I don't know if the main stream gaming audience even wants to see a come back from SNK.

Just sad.

I don't care what you all think. KOF can go multiplatform.

The gaming media is full of ignorant pricks who diss 2D as if it's dated. 3D is becoming more dated than 2D right now.

Funco workers are the scum of the video game community

You know what , I've been waiting since the death of the SNES , for a 3D game that is as good as a 2D game ,in game play factor . I've recently lost all hope ,

I'd love to see it released for PS2. Because quite frankly I am pretty much MVS now and it'll take a little while for KOF 2001 to get down into my price range... Besides, I don't have the DC version to compare, but CvS2 for the PS2 turned out pretty nicely IMO, so regardless of the DC fanatics say, I think that the PS2 is quite capable of handling nice 2D graphics.

I'd kill for it. It would be so cool to have it on PS2. I could wait for the MVS version to drop down and have this in the mean time. And I don't care what you think, the more platforms that the game is on the more money SNK will make, which means more games for us. The Japanese alone would sell a lot of this game as it's #6 in the arcades over there now.

Don't know why you people have to hate Sony so much, I mean KOF all the way through 99 came out on PS1 and sold pretty well in Japan, so I don't know what the big deal is. Plus the PS2 hardly has any loading times and that's on CVS2 which has much more to load than KOF2k1 would (ie. it has same amount of sprites, pluss 3D models, textures, etc). So I don't know why it's so bad to have it on PS2 since SNK will make money! You know, the kind of money you don't get when doing things for a niche market.

Peace

I don't know why there bringing a great game
to the PS2. I it has so much loading time
and it doesn't have good 2D graphics. Let playstation stay in there 3D world. CvS2 is
slow because its on a PS2. If there to bring out
KOF 2k1 or 2, it should be on DC. Theres hardly
any loading time on it. The DC is alot better
at 2D platforms than PS2. It did a good job
on MvC, CvS1 & 2. I don't see why they don't
just put it on DC, let it be one of its last
games on DC, its sure to sell. I didn't notice
any real loading on CvS for DC but I know theres
alot on the PS2. I would rather see it on GC
than PS2 or xbox. Both systems suck, xbox
controller is stupid, and PS2 for the obvious
reasons. If it does come on PS2, may god help
us all.

Aight,
It seems some of you have a good idea what's up while some of you are still smokin a serious blunt of denial.

Ok let's play the game out so some of you guys getcho clue on aight?

SNK Neo*Geo is in business. They need to make money. What does this mean in this day and age?
Cross licensing. I thought we already had discussed this before as a good idea.

If SNK games start coming out on other systems besides the Neo that means SNK will make money and that means the company we all love wil be able to continue to produce great games.

You forget guys, SNK needs to pay the bills and sadly the Neo*Geo alone ain't cuttin it.
