I hope i spelled it right. Garow has the be one fo the best fighters i have ever played. I recently found it at a arcade, and played it for hours. It is so freaking cool. Rock has to be one of the best charecters i have ever seen. Every thing about that game is just so freaking cool. I was wondering, i know most are related to other fighters, but is everyone in it related to another SNK charecter, can anyone tell me some of them are related to besides teh obvious ones

Underrated? Garou? Nah... if anything over-hyped. I personally take a different stance on this one, I really don't think its all that fun or exciting. I know I am probably one of the few who thinks that though. For me it just didn't deliver, thats all.

Mark of the Wolves is definetly not a "underrated game". Infact, I think it is highly regarded by many people. It is a very solid game. Having said that, I also think that maybe it was a bit overrated. I really liked the smooth and detailed animation & graphics. The presentaion and the endings (its endings are probably one of the best I have ever seen on Neo Geo) were top notch. And for the most part, I liked most of the chrs (very well developed). I really liked more than 1/2+ of the music as well. One thing that I had problem w/ was the gameplay. The number and the variety of combos are down. Not that I really have problem w/ this--ST Turbo II is one of my all time favorite fighter. It just didn't feel right? The gameplay seems a bit outdated by today's standards (Though it's a good game, I am not that into Capcom vs. Marvel type of combos as well--I would rather have SS3's infintes instead). I played like crazy when I got the game, but not as much now. Having said that, though, it's probably one of my favorite fighters. Just that I like some of the Real Bout, KOF and Last Blade series a bit more.

I think whether or not Garou: MOTW is underrated or overrated depends on what you like in 2d fighting games. To me, MOTW is fantastic and I consider it to be one of the best fighters ever. It is not, however, very progressive and doesn't offer much in the way of new gameplay options (although the T.O.P. system is interesting). MOTW refined the simple, old-school fighting formula, and to me it plays like a more responsive SF II, with extremely good graphics and animation. If you want the team play, combo intensive KOF series feel, or the flashy super move tag team spectacle of Capcom's Vs. series, MOTW may seem like a step backwards. To me, however, it plays and looks like a dream, enough so that I spent the $$$ to buy it a couple of months back. One last thing -- compare the design and animation on the Terry Bogard character in KOF '99 with the Terry in MOTW -- ouch!!

MOTW's is neo-geo's Street Fighter 3. Best animated neo-geo game to date.

Underrated or overrated?

I'd say it depends on whom you ask. Most of the arcade players around here don't play MVS games (the majority of them are SF3 fans) and could care less about Garou. Very few of the hardcore gamers I know own Neo's. So most of them don't know what Garou is. However, almost every big Neo fan (especially fans of fighters) I've heard from, loves the game.

Personally, I think the game rocks. The "Just Defended" system is kinda lame (a lower risk version of a parry) but the TOP system was cool. It also does a good job of breaking the series out of its rut. Advancing the story 16 years (or something like that) into the future and placing it in Second South (the rebuilt Southtown after it was destroyed in KoF 2000), is the kind of fresh start the series needed. Plus, Gato is just awesome; he looks like a buff Ranma and has cool moves.

No matter what anyone does, someone will love it, and someone will hate it. I was expecting a lot from Garou when I heard it was made by members of the Last Blade team, and members of the Fatal Fury team. All in all, I have to say, it was the biggest Neo let-down ever for me.

What I like about it:
-Gato is a hard-ass
-Rehashed Terry looks & plays great
-Grant is cool, but what's he doing there? He belongs in the SS series
-Some of the stages are nice
-The endings are well done

What I HATE about it:
-Giant green pop-corn when you hit a guy
-Some of the GAYEST characters this side of Kof. That's right, I don't like Kof. Pound for pound, it's brought us the dumbest characters EVER. Chris, Choi, Benimaru, Rugal, Chang, Shermei, just to name a few!
-The combo system too limiting. That bullshit of using fakes as a mid-combo-cancel was weak
-The guys were SO small on the screen
-Why would Geese Howard ever get married?
-I wish Kim's sons were more radically different. Sure they're fun to use, but they share so many of the same moves. Lazy animators! Just kidding, they did a good job otherwise
-While the animation was super smooth, the frame-rate was so high, you could'nt see half of it
-And . . . the No.1 reason I HATE Garou, is because I know, as a die hard FF fan, that I will have to spend money on Garou 2. A game I won't even like.

Thanks for listening to my bitching.

Garou MOTW is a mixed bag for me. Here's my sentiments on the game (in AOF's style)

Lovin' it:
-Graphics are the best on the Neo.
-The most kick-ass intro ever(Terry/Geese)
-Character selection music kicks ass like SOR
-Rock is pretty cool. MF's got energy wings!
-Gato is totally badass.
-Freeman play's like how I wish O. Iori did.
-Kim's sons are cool.
-Endings look godly.

Hated it:
-Slow gameplay. Waaay too much like SF3.
-Music is ho-hum.
-Last bosses are lame.
-B. Jenet, Tizoc, and the cop are LAME!

I know my liking list was longer but the gameplay is just too old school (I'm not to keen on Just Defense either). Maybe I've been spoiled by KOF and the Vs. games but I need a team dammit! It's just more exciting.
If I want old school I'll play the old games.
Is it just me or does the team that makes LB and Garou want their games to be SF3? They need to get over it fast!

Ok, anyone who says that snk was trying to copy Capcom is on crack! You have to be kidding.. the only thing that can even closely be compaired is the fact that you can parry. Does that mean that Namco was copying Capcom's vs. series too when they released Tekken Tag(Stupidist fighting game to date, I would rather play Rise of the robots for Genises than play that game)??? I guess namco did copy capcom huh..... hm who cares snk is better, more creative. Better result from what they had to work with. compaired to capcom. SF3 3rd strike is the pimpest due to the CPS3. but garou gets most my time because it sooooo much more fun..Most of all!!!!!!! the super moves in garou like Butt's and Rock's not to mention the kaiyouken Busta wolf! No move are like that or can even come close in SF3. Even the two or three characters in garou that are bad. Even with all the positive stuff i hear. I still think that it is under raited.

All I have to say is wait till MofW 2, when it is released on the MVS 2, and the super giga chip that is supposed to blow away the CPS 3 bord.... It's about time SNK! Shesh!

Are you threatening me? Anyway, I feel that they're trying to make there games more SF3 (or SF) like. LB1 has the Custom Combos from SFA2 and Super Cancels from SF3. LB2 has the air recovery and missed throw animations from SFA3. MoTW has the JD which is an less abusive parry .

Maybe I am on crack but these games have a SF3ish feel to me (especially Garou). Maybe it's the abundance of animation and the graphics. I remember when I first saw LB I said "it looks like a Capcom game." I also don't the character designs are worthy of SNK's previous efforts (sans a few) which also reminds me of Capcom.

I like SNK because they have their own style of games. I don't want to be reminded of Capcom's games when I'm playing SNK's because I usually don't like Capcom's lazy efforts. MvC2 was the last Capcom game I've really liked since MSH.

SNK has to keep up with Capcom as far as graphics and animation are concerned. If they didn't, Capcom would have have an undisputable edge on SNK. The whole reason the Neo is as good as it is in '2000 is because of the game designer's abilities to push the envelope with the visuals. The bottom line is that Garou is the only fighting game on the Neo that's graphics can kick Capcom's SF III tail into the dirt. And while Garou's game play may be a step back toward SF, it is one of our best bragging rights. Whenever one of my Dreamcast/PS2 loving buddies touts their fighting games, the only thing that keeps them from accepting the glory of their favorite systems 2D abilities is a little game known as 'Garou: Mark of the Wolves'.

I always found it sort of ironic that the most praised of all the Fatal Fury games is the one that is most Street Fighter-like. I think it is over-rated, there are elements of the new systems I absolutely can't stand, and the combos do seem very limited. On the other hand I largely despise the chain combo system of the Real Bout series. I wish SNK had put some plane scrolling into Garou, thus adding a feature unique to the FF series. It is beautiful, that's for sure, but it's not that great of a fighter, and is far too short for a 1999 fighting game.

I like it very much because the atmosphere is great. The announcer (round 1 - fight) sounds great and ending a fight with a special move looks fantastic. Its one of the games i have to buy for my mvs. Its a real arcade. (beneath Shock Troopers 2). The only points against it are:
too short and less characters
