SvC: Chaos tournament to be held at Wizzards Arcade (9/6/03)-Results

-entry fee is $5
-1st prize is 80% of the total entrance fees, 2nd prize is 20%
-start time is 6:00 P.M.


I'll try to go (I'll be using Shiki if I do).

EDIT: Update (9/3/03) - Zero is no longer banned from the tournament,
and neither are infinites

Update (9/6/03) - summary report


Well, all's said and done. It was pretty fun.
I lost in the end, but I won a few times. If you were there, you
could spot me as the only Shiki player (and only Iori player).
Mr. Karate was the most popular pick, others including
a couple of Ryu players, a couple of Geese players,
two Chun-Li players, two Earthquake players (one being Liokaiser,
who mainly played Tessa), one Terry player (I think),
one Hugo player (a particularly good one at that, the other Earthquake player),
one Kasumi player (maybe two), one Demitri player (who also played Geese),
one Balrog (boxer) player, and one Vega (claw) player (whom I played against).
The match-ups were best 2 out of 3 matches.

My matches:

-Shiki vs. Vega (I lost the first time, but won the other 2)
-Shiki vs. Geese (I won the first time and lost the other two,
the Geese player being the tournament organizer, George Massu)
-Shiki vs. Tessa (I won the first time, but lost the other two
after Liokaiser switched to Earthquake, I myself switching to Iori
for the third match; well done, Liokaiser)


The final match:

Geese vs. Geese (George was one of the Geeses, but the other player won)


Well, that's it. Now if only they'd hold a KoF 2002 tournament...

That Bastard over there kicked my ass with Zero three times! I'd like to go back there and show him what Kim has to offer. I don't know if he's an employee there, but he was black with glasses and I almost beat him up with Kim, but Zero is a bastard.

loco I'm not that mad, but I'd be nice if I had a chance to redeem myself. Don't you hate the way they have the buttons layed out over there?

No, it was early Sunday afternoon and there were only a few people there. Zero is really cheap. I almost had him beat, but my loss could also be attributed to the little tricks Zero has. What do the guys over there think of the game?

Just wondering (I had an 18 win streak with Shiki last night, that Zero player
being the first one that I beat). One bit of advice is to not
let him corner you in order to avoid taking tons of chip damage from
repeated Shield Boomerang attacks. Jumping in is also something to
avoid as well, so as to not get hit with his Triple Rod spin.
For the most part, people here like the game, Capcom and SNK fans alike.

His moves shouldn't even be in a fighting game. They're very unorthodoxed. Zero is destined to be the character everyone will be banned from using. He'll be a fun 1 player game character.

I'm quite suprised MArs Alien isn't banned as well.

I missed my chance yesterday to compete in a SVC tourney last night. Kinda annoying but the arcade there hosts plenty of fighting game tournaments

you have to ban zero and geese howard, the two have infinites very easy...

geese: C,f+D , dash,xx, C, f+D, dash, xx/repeat
zero: the classic Dp infinite.

Hmm...sucks to hear that people are banning characters from an already limited character roster. Maybe if Playmore had fixed these bugs or if they had chosen more better(non-cheap) characters, things will be different. I mean I've never heard of any characters that are so cheap that they are actually banned in tournaments! Geese's and Zero's infinite seems way too easy to be an infinite....I'm damn shocked to see that Playmore let it slip by! So far I'm disappointed from what I'm hearing. =\

Gouki is banned in Super Turbo. And the "secret" characters shouldn't have been secret, and should've been fully playable (which they likely were, but no one knew the codes) during the beta tests.

as well. He was using Zero. I'd say his Zero is better than mine
at this point, but I beat him with Shiki (the first time
I played against him, I was using Chun-Li, whom I lost with;
I came back and ended his winning streak against the other players
with Shiki, which was then the start of my own).
Let me guess...he cornered you and used Zero's Shield Boomerang
for lots of chip damage, didn't he?

Exactly what he did. Is there a way to break him out of that? It seems as if there's barely any lag time after he completes the move.

Well, the only real strategy that I can think of that would work
for any character would be to press CD while blocking
(to knock him away and get some breathing room). When I used Shiki,
one of the keys to beating Zero was to make use of her Meike special (qcf+D)
(good for cancelling out his multi-hit attacks such as
his Triple Rod spin and his Shield Boomerang while causing
more damage to him than to you). I also made use of her Tsurane Giri (f+A, A(x3) version) by cancelling it into her Tenma Houjin DM (qcb, hcf+A or C).
I'll need more time to figure out other character specific strategies, though.

I'm not great at canceling (MOTW comes to mind), but I'll give it shot if I make it out there again.
