I hate to bring this to light, because it's so very bad, but the sengoku roms were just released a while ago and is now playable on some emu. Am I the only one who's a bit disappointed (pissed off) that people are going to get the game for free before many of the people who pre-ordered the US home cart of it? Makes me sick really...

Thanks. Thanks a lot Neo-0. You've in one fell swoop made the MVS platform completely devoid of value to any developer or arcade operator.

I don't really care about people getting a free ride so much as the death of the MVS.

*@&^*@(!!
lemme guess the excuse is they cant afford a few quarters to goto the arcade. its a brand new game! that crosses the line from emulation to straight piracy.

reminds me of when i had my copy of capcom vs snk 2 for dreamcast preordered and ppl on the net were talking about how they were playing it already pirated off the net...DAMMIT!

Actually it wsn't the Neo-0 team that did this... it was some other dumper, no idea who. MAME team manged to find a way to decrypt the gfx roms, but not the program roms, which is why MS3 isn't emulated yet - but Sengoku did not have encrypted p roms, and now the roms are out it can be emulated.

I agree though, this game is way too new to be emulated... but after last weeks release of MAME I guessed it would be inevitable...

Actually this makes me wonder why SNK were not more thorough with their encryption??? Why encrypt only Graphics roms on some boards, and both graphics AND program roms on others???

Great! Guys, you miss the point (you could tell me the same I guess... who cares ) I mean: I preordered Sengoku 3 and can't wait to play it! I don't even think to download it and play on this fucking computer 'cause I wanna open up the package, put that gorgeous cart into the AES and switch from off to on! This is important. We are Neo fanatics. This is important. They are not, they will never be.

MS3, KoF2k, and now Sengoku Legends...

Happy now, ROM fucks? Mission accomplished, eh?! Another game finally preserved, thank god for that, hm?!

Let's see how long it takes til some brain dead moron comes up wid' da usual "oh I'm so poor" or "emu made me buy my Neo" BS. The leeches are waitin, I can smell 'em. Smells most foul.

Sad. Fucking sad, man.

There will always be leeches who seek eternally to get everything for free. In the case of Dreamcast and PS2 CDRs, they do get the full product, which is unfortunate. However, in the case of Neo Geo ROMs, they don't get the same product, especially since 99% of them just play on a regular PC (and not on an EMU arcade cabinet, which can be very close to the originals).

I'm not happy to hear that Sengoku 3 has been dumped already either, but this kind of stuff is inevitable. The true gamers will always buy the original games, to the extent that they can afford them.

It is sad that this will probably speed the demise of new releases for the Neo Geo MVS platform, and by extension for the home cart system as well. A real shame.

But at least there were quite a few good years of releases under the encryption, which we can be thankful for. If this encryption had been broken earlier, we might not have gotten games like Metal Slug 3, KOF2K, or Sengoku 3 at all.

Takumaji: MS3 isn't emu'd yet... the others are, but not that.

As someone mentioned above though, couldn't a developer use some other method of encryption on their games? If they did, wouldn't that hold off emulation for at least another year or two? I can't see why that wouldn't be possible, but I'm no expert so I could be wrong.

True.

But all the wonderful, legendary, utterly fantastic Neo games melt down to just another big ZIP file, put on a harddisk, to be within reach for another ten minutes of casual Neo gaming.

That's what bugs me, that's what makes me fkn mad. Just a bunch of bits, a file, a chunk of data, stolen from SNK.

I wish I could do something against it. I really, really do!

MS3 is dumped, according to some of the boss leeches over at neogeo-world. It seems that they start to cultivate their usual leet scene hybris by only letting big leech-tymers access certain ftp servers. SOBs.

A new encryption scheme would cost lots of $$$, but would not be helpful at all IMO. The hardware mods on the cart design, which would be inevitable for a new set of crypto chips, together with the cost of developement and game design, would break all (financial) limits. And the MVS's rep is damaged already, who would be willing to open up the wallet? Brezza? Unlikely.

A new encryption routine would last for no more than six months, if that long.

Guys... this is what I've been saying all along.

Don't bother flaming me, I already kicked down $300 for a Sengoku 2001 Japanese AES cart, myself.

Yeah it is dumped, but not playable because of the encryption on the program roms. It may be a while until it is emulated, or then again it could be five minutes from now... I guess KOF 2000 did happen a little out of the blue.

In the short term, some people may think it is nice to be able to play Sengoku 3 in an emu, but they probably don't think about the long term. What you say about the encryption scheme is a good point I guess. We'll have to wait and see what the repercussions on the MVS scene will be...

I'm still gonna buy a Sengoku 3 MVS cart when I get the chance though... being able to emulate it won't stop me.

Oops... they did it again.

This is even worse KIM that Sengoku 3 is a days-old release. "Preservation"... bleh.

How the hell are arcade owners going to feel about this? And now... if you're going to shell out the jack for SGK3, you gotta watch for motherfucking bootlegs.

Oh, how dare they call us dicks.

Wonder how many corpses of various ROM dumpers would have to turn up before the rest of them got a clue and decided to quit....
