Seeing as we have been talking about this a lot recently, I decided I better write a bit of a rant about emulation to post on my news page. I don't usually cover emu news anymore, but I thought I'd write a few things. Pop over to my site to read it.

Hopefully some people might take notice and I'll get less "GIMME KOF 2000 ROMZ NOW PLEASE I WANT TO PLAY IN EMU NEORAGEX THANKS!" emails Or maybe not

I agree with the sentiment, but your argument isn't as biting and sharp as it could be. You should delve into the "pay for a game once in your life" area - you've heard the bullshit that "I have no money to buy a neo game" and these same lamers will bang their heads about which top of the line 3d graphics card to buy, or the new Korn CD. Or maybe they are poor, because they're spending all day playing online games or spamming the retrogames boards instead of working. Why do they deserve to play KoF 2K, or any game for that matter?

i think that people that are into very extreme and illegal emulation of new games either for Neo*Geo or other companies are nothing but parasites cause they live off other people's work.

as EvilWasabi said they go on and on that they don't have no money to get the game or that they're not going to spend 200+ dollars on an Neo*Geo cardtrige or whatever then they're the same people that have their $300
PS2 that are getting MGS2 the GameCube or The X-Box the day they come out

*so why spend money on something i can get free* ? it seems to be their mentality well i say what makes you think SNK or any other game company should spends millions on making a game so that you can only parasite out of it.

but hey i'm an SNK fan i have my $1 worth GMOW and KOF Dreamcast games i downloaded off the internet i'm so cool !
but gee.. i wonder why SNK and Sega DC are going out of bussiness

well that's not being a fan , a fan doesn't screw the game company they like by leeching off someones work

there's always another way no matter what anyone says if you don't have enough money to get the game you want you just can go to the arcades and only spend a few quarters
of you can always save money to buy it and in the end the hard earned things are the ones you enjoy the most.

there's just no excuse for parasiting unless you're real lame and have no shame.

Who cares? No matter how much anyone gripes about how bad it is, you can't stop people from getting to play the stuff for free... a few people spend a few thousand on a rig to circumvent any encryption or other anti-piracy measures, then upload the info to the net. NOBODY can stop it, at best you can just slow it down.

Many people that are into the neo are upset that they spent big money on games that someone else gets to enjoy on a download. Life is unfair...damn. And its not just SNK or Sega. For example, I don't know one person who has a cd burner who doesn't own some pirated shit. Try stopping that

Everyone should just get over it already

I don't think anyone will be able to stop emulations. I mean they are even harder to control in poorer third world countries. Over there, if you go to malls or other stores that are selling in the "open", it is hard to control them. And these countries don't care because the original creators of these products are from rich first world countries so in a way it helps the local economy and uplift the masses

this is not about stopping i know that emulation and piracy can't be stopped
it's about making consience on people either old or new to that piracy is a thing that affects us all either if you want to believe it or not
it makes things discontinued or scarce it makes prices go up and hard to find and many other things (original products of course)
and the worst of all it affects good companies ,artists etc. that can't afford these kind of things

i don't really care if someone gets for free a rom of a game i own on the mvs or anyother system i care that maybe that game could have been brought in it's original form
the very way it was meant to be

people really don't notice how bad piracy is for the industries it affects them as distributors and it affects you, us as the consumers
i know that piracy might never be stopped but if you creat consience in at least one people that's a great win in my opinion

Leona,

I hear where you are coming from... It would be nice if people would stop and think about the big picture for once. Unfortunately not so often in the world of today

Even the companies we love have boardroom meetings on how they can get more out of us for less... Pursuing quality seems like a lost discipline these days

Yeah, that's pretty much what I mean. No one is going to be able to stop emulation or piracy, and I'm not really mad that people can get things fo free that either me or someone else has paid good money for. Even on the Dreamcast or PS2, a lot of my friends have had pirated copies of games that I had gone out and bought (and they laughed at me for doing so), but that did not make me mad because I knew I'd spent MY money on it and I wanted to show my support to Sega or whatever. I don't wanna sound like a hypocrite, so I admit have pirated copies of games lying around, but I can honestly say that if I like a game enough to buy it, I *DO* buy it.

What really pi**es me off though is the fact that people call themselves fans of a console, company or a game series, but won't put their hand in their pocket and support it in one way or another. Then they start crying because SNK or another company goes under, but I have to ask them the question: what did you do to support them? Now, I honestly don't believe that SNK's death is down to emulation (imo if it wasn't for emulation, the lamers that exist wouldn't be playing SNK games anyway... they'd probably be off pirating something else), but it is true that if some people showed more support for the company they love, things might be different.

You'd actually be suprised that there are a lot of decent people in the emulation community that I speak to regularly that do agree with me, and maybe even OWN an MVS or home cart machine, or at least buy the ports of games to other systems, or whatever else. That's ok with me, cos at least they are buying something. It's just the other people that demand everything for free, or even get mad because X rom doesnt run flawlessly on their emulator or something like that... that's just unbelievably lame imo.

personally, I get roms of games and keep them, like my console games my roms collect electronic dust, once in awhile I'll delete roms I don't play anymore, I do try to buy games for the system, I still prefer roms, because my games are really just collecting dust...I know you all hate Emu games, Emu for me is like renting, download some, and delete them later..

In this city, the neogeo is almost unheard of. I' ve wanted one every since that Video Power console game show a while back. I don' t see ( in my case) playing neo roms as a bad thing. Hell, I love the system. Regretfully, shortly after I found out about mvs emulation, SNK died. I have a huge amount of respect for the NG and I always will ( as long as no one from World Heroes shows up in the next KoF. ) . I' m like those dorks have 2gigs of games for the sake of having them... Alot of the more respectible rom sites care a lot about keeping classic gaming alive. Have it be for nastolgic reasons or the " All the games are in landfills! We must keep them alive! " .. One thing I don' t get is how a fair condition TRON game sells for US2000. Personally, I own the neo roms because I really enjoy playing them. I' m in midstride of piecing together an mvs cabinet so I can experience the game the way they were meant. Hell, I never even heard or MOTW until I ran across it on a mame site and I know that the first game I pick up for my slot 4 will be MOTW. I see roms in my case as trying before I buy. I only get the ones that I' ve always wanted to play and never had a chance to. I have that chance now.. I' m happy.. pretty much nuff said. I know i' ll pick the game up later if it' s cool... uhm.. I think that' s it.. But, yeah... those punks who sit there with their l33t talk and whatnot upset me alot. They talk shit and have no respect for the industry...... I want a ferret...

One more thing: What means more spiritually, owning a home system or an mvs.

Emulated games are no where close to the real thing. I have copies just to recall what they played like so that I can sort out which ones to buy. The Dreamcast ports are poor copies as well. I want the real thing, the arcade feel.

They need a new arcade format to survive. They should have jumped to the CPS3, and found a way to stick it into the Neo cabinet.

Anyway, I pray they will stick around, and I will buy their new carts that I like to support them (like Metal Slug 3).

Heya searchingtom, long time no speak!!! How are things?

Yeah... emulated games aren't as good. It's hard to explain exactly WHAT makes my MVS more fun to play on, but somehow it just is. Also, like I said quite a few times recently: if you download a bunch of roms, do you get that amazing feeling when a game arrives through the post and you hurriedly unwrap it so you can start playing it? Hell no.

Even though I have only a few MVS games at the moment (and mostly older ones too), I still get more fun out of them than I would King of Fighters 2000 on Kawaks. It's cool to play games in emulators sometimes, especially very old ones that you can't find to buy anymore, and I do enjoy playing the odd emulated Neo Geo game... but it CAN'T be a substitute for the real thing.

Anyway... I did say that I wasn't gonna be drawn into this argument anymore... looks like i have been though I think I've said my piece anyway, thats enough now

Ofcourse the games are better in the arcade or at home on the AES or whatever it' s called.. the games are made for those systems.. Something I loved is ( referring to whatever someone said about Rock looking worse in Capcom vs. SNK 2 than he did in KoF2k. ) ... The soul of SNK lives on! You can try to port it over but it' ll never be just as perfect as the origional.. Is having a home system really that cool? I thought it' d be better to have an mvs because it' s just so damned unconventional.. well, i' ll find out sooner or later.

Hi Kazuya_UK !

I am still in the Neo scene ! Visit your site almost every other day, it is THE DEFINITIVE SITE for Neo Geo game reivews !!

I now own a 29" cabinet and a home system. Love them both. Just bought a Phantom Converter from Whit so that I can play some of the MVS games on my home console...

Keep up the good work buddy !

You got a cab??? Nice one! I'd love to get a proper cab, but I just don't have the room for it... so I'll have to stick with my MVS and supergun for now
