About 2 weeks ago I learned of a friend of mine Brian aka NeoTurfMasta obtaining a very cool and odd sort of MVS set up!! This was brought out in another thread and it turned into a flame thread so hopefully we can get the facts on this unit from Brian here.

I must add I have never seen one of these in my 21 years of Arcade experience and it is a very cool little device. Hopefully we can learn more about it in this thread.

So, how do you insert carts into it? Where do you plug the controllers in, if you can. Does it use home sticks, or is there a separate piece that has arcade sticks?

I know some of the details from what Brian has told me so I will share what I know but Brian is the actual owner so he will know best.

I know it does take Standard Home Cart controllers and it has S-Video and other outputs. The cart plugs in a slot behind the glass door and it is coin operated. From what Brian tells me the board is unlike any other Neo board and was made specificlly for this project.

Man I wish I would have found this puppy <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Sounds almost like someone made it from a custom gun...like a homemade arcade of sorts. Do you think that it could be an AES system modded to take MVS with a custom coin counter installed?

And you say it was in a hotel room? Like the 5200 setup for hotels?

i visited ntm during the weekend to check
out a piece of hardware that he recently aquired.
he said it was something he was sure i never
seen before and he wasnt shitting me.
the NEOGEO microwave ( <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> ) or at least thats
what i thought it looked like ... <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
was an honest to god bueaty.
i couldnt believe it. its so bueatiful
as i said to truie via email its things like
this that makes me love SNK even more.
a wonderful SNK version of a kinda an MVS supergun!
absolutly incredible.
it even has s-video! this was made in 93 for gods sake!
it has s-video rf outs avi outs.
ntm deterimined correctly that it was made out
of reinforced steel and probably could support
a tv on it.
i was asked via email if it was a prototype
and its already been mentioned that it is a
hotel casino unit.
but honestly i could not see it as a prototype
ever looking at the thing though. its
very well made and is complete, that is done.
no prototype here... just an amazing way to
play MVS games on a tv <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
the front is made of glass and comes out like
a door and reveals a covered up MVS unit
and enough room for 1 (one) controller inside.
ntm even pointed out my favorite part of the
system...
the rf out is actually an official SNK rf
adator rigged to go out the back... heheh..
its just cool..
the NEOGEO logo on the side is just class right there.
and damit its just too much to love man..
its heavy. dam heavy.
its definitely incredible.
its built solid enough to be a bomb shelter :B
and truely is a great find.
i dont know why this was made when cart systems
could have sufficed but hey. SNK did some strange things back
in the day.
not that im complaining though :P
its a great thing to have or even just get to
see in my case.
ntm asked if i wanted my picture taken with
it but i think he was just joking ;(
its amazing.

Have you got some pics of this? But what's the relation with the neo hotel? It means that you can only find these MVS in the neo hotel? Or it has nothing to do with the name of the hotel where you stay during your neo geo land journey?

It has nothing to do with the topic but I have recently seen a neo cup 98 Jamma cart!?
Does it rare or frequent?

Everytime you think you've seen everything Neo-related, you see something new.

This is definitely one of the cooler things.

Yeah, probably the coolest piece of NG hardware I've seen in a long time.

As professional as it looks, and even though it sports the SNK logo proudly, it has little hints that it may have been contracted by an outside company. I mean, look at the hinges used, and the magnet/spring used for the glass...although the whole thing looks very professional, it just doesn't seem to have that whole "SNK feel". Of course, I could be completely wrong considering I'm making that judgement from a photo only.

Wish I'd found it. Just for historical purposes...how many of these have been found? Only one?

What is the serial #? That should give an indication of how many were produced. I saw it on the little plaque on the back below the AV ports.

Brian and I talked about if it was authentic and I believe it is completely!! The board set is deffinately something we have never seen before and it is like no other MVS out there.

As for the cabinet well SNK may have contracted that out. I dont think SNK has ever made thier own cabinet for anything. The US Arcade cabs are made by Dynamo among others and from what I was told the Candys were also contracted out.

The board set has SNK stamped right on it and instead of your standard Jamma out I believe Brian telling me it actually had some of the same parts used for the AES.

I would say this is 100% SNK just like any other MVS and they got a contract with a major Hotel for placement. At any rate one of the coolest Neo set ups I have seen in years.

Just when you think you have seen it all something like this pops up, cool as hell if you ask me!!

Can someone contact the owner and have him post or email permission for me to use it in my book? I'm sending it to the printers within a matter of weeks, so speed is a good thing here.

Also, if the owner of the unit (probably the same person as the photo owner) could send his name so that I can list it as well (or omit it if it's requested). I'd like to definately get that front photo into the Neo Geo section! It is a quasi-home system since it uses a TV as it's primary display. This looks like the missing link between AES and MVS.

Thanks for any replies. And just in case it doesn't show up, permission (or denial of permission <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0"> ) can be sent to: videogamebible@hotmail.com

Thanks all.

Andy

I'm pretty sure that's official SNK equipment, and that it was used in game stores for a while to demo games or something. That's what I remember from the description of that device when I first saw it 2 years ago on Yahoo Japan. It was not for retail at all.

In the other thread I stated that the board was a non-jamma MVS board with the label GIT. I think the pictures show most of everything inside the unit. It does run off a SNK arcade PSU able to handle up to 135V, no I dont really have to use a voltage converter.

It does have a locking back panel and the cart door is also locking. I believe that this was made for one player usage, as there is a coin slot and credit display only for player 1. It has the dips and test/service buttons under the cart slot that is covered. It does have a P2 connection, but I am unsure how another joystick would fit nicely into the box.

Not sure what else to say about it... most of the pictures should answer any questions.

The serial number on it is 87651. If you look at the AV picture, you can see the SNK serial number plate at the bottom.

I was surprised that it wasnt more like a supergun. But all the RGB conversion is done on the board and then the outs are run to another GIT daughter board. I believe it also have A/V in for the TV. I havent tested it, but from tracing the lines, it looks like what it does. I need to test it.

It does look like it was supposed to hold a TV. Inside there is another thick bar going across the top of it.

VideoGameBible, your welcome to use what you want. I have no problems with anyone using them. Which is one of the reasons I didnt put some shitty watermark on the pics.

The one thing I need to test is to see if it had RGB out. After looking at the board that houses the DIN, it doesnt look like it does... but I need to double check.

Honestly guys, I really didnt want my name spread about having this. I was going to have someone post pics... Very few people know what I have and I like it that way. But I am glad you all enjoy the pics. So, this is it... If you have any more question, I can try to answer them for ya. I also want to apologize for the way I was acting in the other thread.. I was really pissed off that my name had been mentioned. I shouldnt have continues to go off like that.

Anyways, enjoy.

In another thread I noticed Daisuke Jigen asked about dimensions...

It's aproximately:

L24" W17" H~15"?..

I never measured the height.. I have been trying to find a good shelf that would hold the thing.

The width varies as the front of the unit is curved. At it's highest point it is ~17".

This thing definately can support a TV, but I cant see myself putting something on top of it scratching it.

If they had a unit that looked like this, had to joystick ports available AND played home carts, I'd pay $2k for it!
