Hi,

I have a simple question what does the little wolf-head logo on the spine of some AES carts mean?

Is it an insert made by a different distributer?

Thank you in advance.

The Dog was made to appeal to the core market SNK USA wanted to attract in the early ninties.

If you ask me, the Dog idea was rediculous and worthless.

On a side note, I hear Lecherous Chris Ray and Fuck-Up Dion Dakis love the Dog Tags.

The "Dog Tag" appears on certain U.S Home Carts that released early in the Neo's life. The Dog was kind of like SNK's attempt at U.S marketing...some what of a mascot. Since all of us big bad Americans like bad ass things, we got that freak'n dog instead of the cool Japanese Neo logo. I think the dog looks lame, but carts with the dog tag go for a bit more because there was less of them printed then without.Hope that helps.>>>

Its funny to read this thread because I'm working on a Neo-Glossary that will answer these types of questions <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I.E. here's my entry for Dog-Tag:

Dog-Tag: A special Neo-Geo “Seal of Quality” that was added to the spine of early US Neo Geo carts (a popular trend started with the NES). The logo’s prominent feature was a rabid dog (taken from a magazine commercial), hence the term dog-tag. This was later replaced by the standard “Neo-Geo” symbol with “Advanced Entertainment System” written in the middle. Early European carts never used the Dog-Tag and instead used the AES symbol.
