I Wonder if the rumors That the former SNK owner has Paid a close source to buy the rights to SNK's character properties and plans to run a Differently named SNK through that close source are true.

There was this Chinese Restaurant near my house that basically was doing poorly. The ran up their bills until they hit critical mass, declared bankruptcy, sold off everything and then created a new restaurant under a different name in the exact same spot.

This is a popular way to run a business from what I gather.

Maybe SNK is pulling one o' them.

It's not wise to lose a company name with an 15 year old legacy-building that reputation up from scratch will cost more than just opening another Restaurant...

Final picture from SNK's website, listed above the text in Simon's post:

Edit: the site is still up but difficult to get to. There are links to download this wallpaper in multiple resolutions, but all are bmp format. The above is a jpg version of the smallest available resolution.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? Fare thee well, SNK. May your intellectual properties find a good home.

Damn...another topping to an already fucked up year (for me at least). My favorite company bites the dust and second favorite company has become some sellout whores...oy vey! Anyway, I'll miss you SNK, your games and the memories I had playing them will be forever etched into my soul. Til all are one.

It has been a messed up year. SNK is dead. Sega gets out of the console business so they don't get dead. What's next? Nintendo making X-box games?

Yes, this year has been pretty fucked up in some ways- SNK going out of business (I refuse to call SNK "dead"- their games live on), Capcom cutting back on arcade game production, and Sega laying the venerable Dreamcast to rest.

If SNK staff members do get together under a new company, I'll be glad to see them- but I will also miss that SNK name indeed. Going into software development for an arcade platform that currently exists (NAOMI?) would be a good idea. Although the 3D backgrounds in the DC KOF games weren't bad, if there is a KOF 2002 on NAOMI- I think they should go 2D on BGs ala Guilty Gear X.

Farewell, SNK.
