Taken from MadMan's Cafe:

"After undergoing any twists and turns, SNK will draw the curtains to [its] 20 odd years of history this month. To everybody who loved the games by SNK, thank you very much. And as a beseeching request, we wish that [you] continue to love the games. Because, the future of those who carry our remaining "S" DNA, will start from here.

From All Employees of SNK(Inc.)"

Well I was waiting for an official statement, hoping that things weren't as bad as they seemed. I guess this means KoF 2k1 and other licenced titles will continue from third parties, but the mothership has crashed.

As Bad as it seems, I'd rather the new titles not carry the SNK banner if the people from SNK aren't involved. The infogrames atari stuff just seems like some sort of lie.Seeing a "SNK" game from some random third party would seem, well ,not quite right.

I hope all the SNK employees got decent severance packages and move on to some great new stuff.

damn.

I read this on a different board and it felt weird to read such a statement. It felt like kinda losing an old friend. Know what I mean?
In related junction, I'm a nut so I notice strange things... the acronym of this topic is: "SOS"....

The severance packages SNK employees get isn't in the form of cash. They basically grab whatever inventory SNK has (games, boards, machines) as their severance pay. No joke either. "Uh, I'll take 5,000 kits of KOF 2001 please." Anyone else want one...or two?

No one likes this news but if the news that SNK will live on under a another name are true then theres nothing to fear.

Hey feels a bit like 1996,when Atari laid down the books...
I think all SNK employees should scrap cash together and make one last game for MVS and the NGPC wherin all the heroes die in the end
that would be cool,a nice closer

So our worst fears have finally been confirmed...

Well, at least now that it's finally been confirmed, we can step back and decide where we're going to go from here.

No question: SNK will always be my favorite game company - they've brought me years of enjoyment with their innovative Neo Geo home arcade system, and for that I'll never forget them.

By the same token though, I'd still be happy to see games produced by 3rd party companies, as long as they didn't tarnish the Neo's legacy of great titles.

Sure, it won't be SNK, but then again a lot of great titles on the Neo weren't from SNK directly anyway (Metal Slug, Blazing Stars, Windjammers, etc.) - just because it's not SNK at the helm doesn't automatically mean the game is going to be crap.

At this point, I guess we'll just have to take a wait-and-see attitude in regards to the future of the Neo.

Are we surewe want a 3rd company to release games for Neo? I mean: everyone wants MS4, KOF2k1, 2k2, 2k3... But who wants carts not made by SNK to be among those made by SNK?
I have my collection where I can always see it, I have game 'x' with the SNK logo at the bottom of it, so game 'y', 'z' and so on... I'm not sure I'll want a different logo.
I mean: guys, we had a lot of years of enjoyment (for me mainly MVS), a lot of great games... if now the end comes... maybe... we just shall remember.

Farewell, SNK. Though you may be gone, your games shall live on...

Those severance packages sound even better than cash. Betcha one lucky, high-ranking employee got the AES carts for Ninja Masters, Kizuna Encounter, Twinkle Star Sprites, Pulstar, Blazing Star, and a whole bunch of unreleased prototypes.

What's all this I hear about SNK continuing on under a different name? Would they still be making Neo games, or doing something like pachinko machines? Does anyone know if this is more than a rumor?
