I heard from an online friend that KoF2001 will be coming out March, at the same time of the Neo release. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Honestly, I hope that it's a lie, but you never know. I hear that nothing is for sure, and may be just a rumor, but I thought I'd ask you all here if you've heard anything.

Again, I hope it's false. But you never know with the old SNK being dead.

WHY IS THIS A BAD THING????? WHAT DID SONY DO THAT YOU HATE THEM SO MUCH?

The PS2 can easily handle a Neo Geo game as long as Agetec doesn't port it (KOF99 was painfully obvious of that). What's wrong with TON's more people playing or hearing about KOF2k1? I think it'll definitly reach a lot more people than the other "home version". How is Sony ruining this?

Personally, I wouldn't care, a game is a game, just enjoy it on any system, who cares but you guys will probably flame me because of your Sony hate.

That would be wrong. Why would KOF2K1 make it to the other system and KOF2K didn't.

maybe because kof 2000 was released at a bad time.

can't harbor on that.

Kof 94 was only released on the Neogeo systems. But 95,96,97,98, & 99 hit the PSX (collect them all!).

I heard that Sony told companies that they didnt want people to develop 2d games for the playstation 2. I think it was about the time that capcom vs. snk 2 came out that Sony made the statement, but even after that guilty gear came out. Are these the only 2d sprite based games on this system?

I think it's pretty gay when you limit yourself to what you will accept to be developed for your system.

Well, I for one, hope it comes out on the PS2. I don't know how true it is, but Sony really does need to change that "no 2D" stance I keep hearing they've taken. But like an earlier person said, they DID come out with Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Guilty Gear X. Heck... aren't they coming out with Megaman X6 (even though that's considered a Playstation 1 game)? You know... maybe Sony should take a poll, and see what the public wants. That's what I'd do...

I do too ( hope it comes out PS2 ). I don't see why so many people are hung up on not bringing something to a particular system. Then they complain about certain games not getting enough exposure. If you don't like it, don't buy it! I don't care if it's Sony or Sega....I'll be in line to buy it.

Sonys "no 2d" stance was for the playstation one around its launch. The PSX strength at the time was 3d, the buzz they wanted to push was 3d. They had to show the user why the PSX was the "better" system and 3d was their best sales weapon.

If they had gone the 2d route than that would open them to attack from not only the better 2d saturn system but also the 3do which was going for around $150 and the Jaguar ($99). Not to mention the Snes which had just sold 6 million copies of Donkey Kong Country.

3d has become such a staple of gaming now, sony no longer needs to push developers and users away from 2d. If a developer wants to do a 2d title, well than theres nothing stopping them. Not to mention in the later years of the PSX sony did allow for many 2d titles from many companies. The before mentioned KoF 95-99 is a good example.

The exception to all this is sony first party. Sony reviews game ideas that it might want to publish itself. Sony has a strong bias against publishing 2d games and to my knowledge, has never done so.

The new SNK has made rumblings about cross platform development. With 6 million playstation 2's in the US and probably twice that in japan SNK would be again shooting itself in the foot not to push KoF2k1 on PS2.

Then go ahead, make it PS2 exclusive as you please....

I know everyone is tired of titles being exclusive to one system

First off, to answer Spike's question, no, I haven't heard anything about a KoF2k1 port to PS2.

Basically, I don't like the PS2, not because it's from Sony, but because IMO it's a mediocre console with a mostly uninteresting range of games, except for a couple of titles which can also be had on other platforms (GGX and CvS2 come to mind).

But to tell you the truth, I was always a fan of system-exclusive releases. It helps to keep a system interesting, and may attract more customers if they see that a certain game is only available on platform xyz. Think of the heydays of the Genesis and SNES; Genesis had its Sonic, SNES its Mario and Donkey Kong stuff, and although I owned the Genesis, I always liked it to go over to some friends and play the SNES-exclusive titles, with all their differences and specialities. Variatio delectat...

The gaming world has changed since then, and now ppl want to have (and usually get) a big new game on all platforms, but they all look the same, there's no need for innovations and coding wizardry anymore.

Amen to that brother!! Well said . . . the POS2 was a joke in terms of system design, but if you read Ken Kutaragi's interview you'd think it was God. Not bloody likely . . .
