The BOTTOM line

I just wanted to make one post regarding the latest, predictable wave of controversy that has reared its ugly head on this BBS.

Since when did *anyone* affiliated with this BBS/website... hell, ANYONE in the neo community... ever claim to be perfect? This may surprise you all, but I didn't sign up as a moderator to be a "model citizen" for the neo community, or to adequately represent the fans and their opinions. Lately it seems that that is what people are expecting of me. But it's not my job! Rather, I signed up to help Shawn out with the maintenance issues of the BBS and provide whatever assistance I could with the site. NONE of us claim to "represent" the "good" of the neo community, we are all individuals - just like all of you - who happen to be NeoGeo fans. As for the recent stupid "NGF vs Arcade" controversy," People change, people make mistakes, it's only human. These stupid debates where everyone "takes sides" in the name of what is right for the neo is so superficial and fleeting. It's a neverending crusade against the publicly unpopular that repeats itself over and over as time goes on. It has nothing to do with the true neo fans or the system itself, which is why most of us are all here.

So what about the neo community is NOT superficial?
For one, the very existence of this BBS.
You guys should be THANKFUL that Shawn and www.neo-geo.com are here. We can talk all day about stupid "alliances" and backstabbing and all the other bullshit that is so prevalent in the neo community nowadays, but at the end of a day none of this matters. An authentic neo cart is an authentic neo cart DESPITE whose hands it has passed through. The BOTTOM line... we are still left with an honest neo seller who consistently represents his goods ACCURATELY, ALWAYS follows though on his transactions, and strives for good customer relations. Not only is he a great and trustworthy seller (more than can be said of a lot of neo goods sellers out there) but he works his ass off and spends a lot of his OWN MONEY to provide you with a public forum to discuss what most people here love : the NeoGeo system. He's spent more money making sure these forums can be enjoyed by you guys than most of you have spent on your entire neo collections! It's all for YOU guys and YOUR enjoyment, and I know a LOT of you spend a lot of time here. Its a great place to meet other fans. Shawn's a neo goods reseller, he's not OBLIGATED to provide these registered forums for you guys. With a group the size of his customer base and the forums memberlist, keeping everyone happy is like walking on eggshells. Rather than talk and defend oneself, the best thing to do is just make sure you come through with your product. And that's exactly what he's trying to do by offering everyone this new large stock of AUTHENTIC old neo titles.

If you look really hard at these forums the SMART ones amongst you will realize that the people who talk the most shit and point the most fingers either don't give a damn about the system or are only involved to cause controversy. Honestly, in any large group of people there are bound to be a small percentage of people (trolls) who do nothing but cause trouble, and don't even care about the subject matter of the forum (even if they don't realize it themselves.) It's sad that things are this way, but its reasonable that in a public forum of 500+ members there are bound to be people who just want attention.

You critics need to wise up and be thankful for what you have here at www.neo-geo.com. I promise you, we are all doing the best we can to provide you with the best neo-related news, neo products and help regarding neo-related issues. But it is unrealistic to expect us to keep everyone happy.

Just try to keep an open mind, keep the flames low, and go play some NeoGeo - after all, its why we're here, and its the best damned system ever designed. What we can all get out of the public neo community is just icing on the cake.

Very well said, Geddon. I think what most strikes me about the current situation is this:

Despite the fact that Shawn has worked very hard on his site, and the forums (particularly recently when they were down for a while), and spent thousands of dollars of his own money for hosting, development, and other issues, people here still have the complete lack of gratitude to attack and tear him down. That's really quite sad, and pathetic as well. There should be more appreciation for the time and money, and personal labor and dedication, that go into the site and the forums.

We already know the history of NGF, its been rehashed many times here and in many other places. The bottom line is that Shawn is a reputable retailer, and conducts his business accordingly. He fairly rates the product, sells authentic SNK merchandise (with the exception of a handful of converted carts that are so advertised, and that were previously part of his collection), ships in a timely fashion, communicates well to buyers. Thats it, there really is nothing more to say, and certainly no reason to attack and tear him down.

Hopefully more people here will realize what kind of resources Shawn has poured into this site, and these forums, and come to appreciate this more in the future . . .

Shawn indeed is a good man but he has to pay extra attention to what he has said or done coz he's the "spotlight". I think that's why so many people will "question" (not attacking" him.
He's a business man and I'm pretty sure he'll become a good "politician" after so many incidents. That's the life. People either like you or hate you. You can have both so enjoy your beautiful world!!! This is a free forum and most of us do appreciate Shawn's effort and time and money. But I just want to give Shawn an advise: Don't put yourself into your place. People will always watch what you are saying and doing and will dig out everything from your past. People are like a mirror, you have to pay extra attention.

Maybe you are right.....let's us just play Neo game coz it's the purpose of this forum established at the beginning, right? You know, playing game, sharing ideas and thoughts, having fun together....bla bla bla.
Let's not to point finger or single specific persons out.

I must concur with the above-mentioned statement. Politics notwithstanding, this site represents the best opportunity for people to obtain high-quality merchandise through a hassle-free transaction with the least amount of pain.

I just want to applaud Shawn for not making himself exempt to criticisms.It's Truly refreshing and I believe you should allow people to vent all they want.
The questions raised open up alot of interesting dialog.
It's situations like this one that makes this site unique and I hope it never changes.
I believe you should worry when people don't care or hold you accountable for what you type.

I agree,

While I have strong personal beliefs regarding some aspects of Neo Geo collecting and culture, I admire his ability to take the sometimes excessive critism in stride. Some people don't know the difference between respectful debate and unrelenting attack/evangelism/inquisition/"you're-crusade-here".
