Mark of The Wolves - Gamespot fighting game of the year?!

Holy shit... I was just looking through Gamespot's game of the year lists for 2001, and they picked Mark of The Wolves as the best fighting game for this year... That's pretty fucking cool!

Yeah... It did come out two years ago on our precious Neo, but it's still pretty fucking cool that they'd pick that over Capcom vs. SNK 2. I mean, I know Cap vs. SNK 2 sucks dick and everything, but I so thought that would have been the most obvious choice for them... Pretty cool stuff.

Of course I've played CvS2... I bought it and played it for about two weeks, then shelved it and haven't touched it since. The new characters suck, the only good thing about it is Athena. Good meaning they didn't fuck her up... I do not like that game at all, none of the other new characters are good, and 90% of the Capcom characters I think are stupid.

Capcom hasn't made a fighting game I've liked since Zero 3.

SNK kicks the shit out of them.

Mark of The Wolves is no questions asked better than CvS2, it just seemed like they would have picked CvS2 just to fit in or something... They didn't, and I think that's extremely fucking cool.

What do you guys think?

im not saying capcom vs snk is better or anything ...just saying its not a garbage game. i felt your opinion was biased but u seem reasonable so i wont argue everyone has theyre own opinions. and yes much respect to gamespot for picking the unpopular but still masterfull tittle <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I was also disappointed by CvS2. I just felt the whole title was totally uninspired and lacking in any redeemable qualities. Back grounds range from mediocre to just plain , music was very boring, sounds was where so-so and the sprites are just too jaggy. Its just another badly made Capcom rehash!

The only complaint I have about CvS2 is characters. I felt they left out some much needed characters (such as Andy). Other than that, It's a solid game. I was smart, and didn't load up the game thinking I'm going to play Kyo from KOF98, but rather a Kyo in CvS2. Whilist it doesn't hold much attention in 1 player mode, with friends over this is a very addicting game. A lot of people went into playing this game with biased views, and WANTING to hate this game. All I can say is.. your loss.. be happy with the 3 games that make you happy.

yea..
you have to think of that its not going
to play like an SNK game.
just a really bad version of a broken
capcom style.
the only thing SNK in cvS2 is
the characters.
they dont play like SNK games.
the grooves make it better than the first
but honestly i got very tired of playing it
just like the first game.
then put together the fact that
capcom either doesnt want to stick in more
alpha sprites in the game for fear of the
game being called StreetFighterAlpha Vs SNK
or just they plain run out of people to
put in the game.
nobody cares about chara from fighting street.
theres chara that they neglected putting in
like from SF3.
this game is dumbed down to me.
not much fun at all.
good riddance.
i d rather play any other capcom game than this.

i can understand your views in sf3ts im a big yun played i spent years mastering all his combos and strategies...then when i tried to use him in cvs2 the timing was totally off and he couldent be used the same way i used him in sf3 which made me feel cvs2 was less of a tittle. but after i gave it some time and got into some major arcade competition (its one of the biggest games in the local arcade now) ive learned to love it u just cant expect it to be king of fighters with street fighter characters or vice versa and accept it for what it is..a toatally original game

btw im sorry for the excessive posts today i know im going alittle nuts..i havent been online much in the last week and im bored ass today..so all that together put me on a posting craze..ill slow down now

And they were damn right about Halo, too! Best shooting game I've played this year. Absolutely brilliant.

Oh yeah, guilty gear kicks ass even for PC in japanese with two characters...

MOTW is my favortie game , I'm glad to see its number one .I've been looking for the dreamcast version at game stores by my house since it got released , but its always been sold out .Did they not make that many of them , people buying them up , or am I really unlucky ?I guess I'll order it from the web .

MOTW is one of my favorite games too. It was a no brainer that it would win the "Best Fighting Game Award". But if you look at the compitition, it was pretty obvious. Aside from being a great game that is. I also saw that CvS was also a nominee. Um..... why?
That game is soo stupid. All the SNK characters in my opinion, look great. But look at the ugly SF characters. there sooooo ugly. man, I hate capcom. They actually thinnk they can compare to SNK? The only SF characters that look good are; Akuma, Ryu, and Ken. All of the others look like they were cut and pasted to the game. Everyone knows that SNK characters are stylish and well, kool looking, and capcom characters...(sigh). They are just the sorriest looking freaks in the world. Come on, who wants to play as a gay karate loser with a pink Gi?(Dan) Or a hindu guy who yells "yoga".(Dhalsim). i prefer cvs1 than 2. more backgrounds, better gameplay, more nice music. 2 only has a lot of characters and lacking gameplay. damn, you can't even unlock any secrets except for bosses and other small stuff.

Yeah, MOTW had that award coming for a while. I dont know why the mass common media ignored the game when it released in 99 but it truly is a classic and one of the best fight games released on the now almost dead DC.

MOTW forever, though my JPN DC version's cover makes me unusually warn inside. A good kinda warm, yknow? Snk's better packaging jobs there.

CvS2 Rocks! I don't know what your talking about! I can't wait till I have my sticks built for PS2 so I can kick more ass in this game.

I'm kinda torn between which game I like more right now, MOTW or CvS2. But it's nice to see the Neo get some recognition in the real press.

MOTW did not received the recognition it deserved back in 99 cos the game was a little rare in the arcades,it did not see the day of the light in other consoles besides the Neo which is owned by a few.There are also a few people who played the game in the arcades.I remember seeing that game in the arcades at my area and no one played it.They were all over Marvel vs capcom 2 which was very hot back then.

No magazines even reviewed the game or talked about the game in 99.EGM did a preview of that game in the arcade section(Jan 2000 issue).
