Okay, I went to Golfland last night around 8 and played Metal Slug 4. I thought it was really great - but a lot different from Metal Slug 3. You start in a city, kind of like level 5 in MSX. Cars all over the place with soldiers running around. Soldiers can come onto the screen from the bottom, running up the screen, which is very cool - no longer just from the right or left side. The enemies were very much the same - bomb dropping helicopter, red helicopter led by a string of brown copters. But then there was the part where you hop on the motorcycle, where you shoot at trucks and other bikers, and paratroopers. Pretty exciting.

In the first level you have to be careful what you shoot - as you might remove access to certain items and hostages. Like you don't want to take out certain cars, because you need them to boost you to certain platforms.

The 1st level boss was obscenely easy. Then again, the 1st level boss always is too easy. ... It wasn't really exciting though.

The medal system is pretty cool though - you collect them as you blow stuff up. Sometimes you get these messages on the screen like "very good" or "magnificent!" I think it occurs when you take out enemies in a certain way. I also think that the medals you collect might have an effect on certain events happening - like in Level 1, Tarma rides out on the back of a truck that has the same design as one of medals I snagged - I think if I didn't get that medal, he woudn't have helped me.

I can't comment on the music, as the music was really hard to hear next to the SSF2T machine, and hordes of people playing everything but MS4. The blood was also turned off - I realized that they trned off the blood in KoF 2001 too, so I told the workers there that they might want to fix that. Heh. They probably won't.

Anyhow, I'm a lot closer to buying this game on release now. Need to play it more.

Golfland is also the test site for Rage of the Dragons. So if your heading to Golfland to play Metal Slug 4 and KOF2001 be sure to give it a try. I thought the game was really good. Great character designs, and it has a bad ass combo system :D .

Didn't Trieu say that it was at the Golfland outside LA? Or maybe I have to run back to Sunnyvale Golfland... <img src="graemlins/envy.gif" border="0" alt="[Envy]" />
