I was looking on MMCAFE and they said

"Sun Amusement announces that the release date for Evoga's "Rage of the Dragons" has been decided as June 6th, retail priced 178,000 Yen."

now if my math is right wont that mean... the game is selling for $1780 ?

If so dam thats a lot i was hoping it was at most 800.

Who here plans to buy the mvs on launch?

Playmore would be follish to release the game that high... that is higher then KOF2K1 and KOF2K two of the most expensive Neo Games at launch. Besides, if it is true, then we will see the price drop like a rock, since no arcade operator in his right mind would pay almost $2000 for a Neo Geo cart, there is no way he will get his money back, let alone make a profit, these games just aren't that big in arcades anymore. So... regardless if it is true or not, I will still buy mine when it hits the $150-200 mark.

That price is offensive! I guess who's buying that game for that amount of money... How many copies are going to be released? 100 with no English release?
Anyway, we could get MS1 from Kyokugen Star for that price! :D

No, it is not higher than KOF2k1. KOF2k1 costs 188.000 Yen at release. No doubt it isn't cheap, especially if you compare it for eg. with MS4 which costs 158.000 Yen or Crystal Knights for the CS which costs just 88.000 Yen, but compared with Naomi games it is cheap :)

All jamma games cost that much at release, they are priced for arcade ops, who can easily make that money back on a popular game.

It is not priced for the home market...

If the game scores $160+ a day at a beta test center, then it should finish paying for itself after a week in any of the golflands or chinatownfair, or any other large and popular arcade (dave and busters is not an arcade). This makes it worthwhile to many arcade ops.

:( I don't think this game could drag in $160 a day... do you? Thats 640 plays in a day at a quarter a credit (even 320 sounds optimistic to me)!!!! I don't think a lot of Neo games get that anymore.

ask gamersabyss. There used to be a guy on the boards called "leona" who owned some arcades in Nice. Wish he could give input on the profit of neo geo games over the past year.

God you guys don't get it sometimes I swear.

Sure the game is on dated hardware but these guys who make the games are in business to make money. Which means upon release the inital price better god damn well be high if they expect to turn some kind of a profit. Once a bit of time passes the price will drop and will probably be much more affordable to middle class gamers.

Drink some Decaf guys I swear. :D

It says it did 22,000 yen which is about $160.

The difference is most Japanese games cost 100 yen to play, which is more like 75 cents a play or 1/3 of what you're thinking. About 210 plays a day, which breaks down to 8.75 plays an hour average, 17.5 if we say in a 12 hour period, which would be about 3.5 minutes of play per game. That does sound awfully brief, but if we consider most of that to be 1p vs. 2p play it's well within the realms of posibility, especially if the location was open for longer than 12 hours and placed in an area with a strong fighter/neo fan base.

Just my 2.56447 Yen on the situation :) .

OK... first of all... .75 a play... bastards! Anyway, I hope it does well... I want it to do well. Actually I want every arcade to get a copy, lets just hope it can make it... no known SNK characters, a kind of blantant rip off Double Dragon Theme... I don't know, whats the draw, there are much prettier tag games out there (although this may play better!). I guess we have to wait and see and hope it brings in its 18 or so plays an hour... haha, I am glad to see that someone else is obssessed with numbers here... I am seeking a second degree in Math just for the hell of it... :) Want to work those numbers into patterns to show higher mid day play after schools let out to lower day play as casual gamers mil over machines. hehe... anyway... I want to play it! Damnit!

That IS a lot of money...

But rest assured, if SNK Vs. Capcom MVS launches at that price, it would be cheap! That game would get MAD play! <img src="graemlins/loco.gif" border="0" alt="[Loco]" />

When KOF'94 and SamSho2 first came out, one Putt-Putt location that added these in their Neo 4-slot cabinet ended up slapping a "2 Tokens Please" sticker on it when the same cab previously took only one token.

When new games cost that kind of money, 50 cent play is a necessity for the operators. I hate to say it, but 1 quarter play for new titles is probably a thing of the past. What about 3 quarters for a quicker ROI? Unfortunately, "Average Joe" gamers here would probably go "Hmph" at 75 cents for a Neo game (probably why Game Works and D&B don't have NG, since they seem too geared toward the AJs). Namco's Time Out is probably not what I'd consider a real arcade- they have mostly gun games, sims (like Top Skater, a gimmick game that has worn thin in my opinion), and racers like D&B/GW, albeit in smaller cabinet versions.

I think $1,369 is not offensive for a brand new arcade cart price, or even profane (see BonusKun's post).

What is this game about? Will it be out in the next few months? From the title it sounds to be like D&D: Tower of Doom at the arcade. I hope so because I wouldn't mind slashing up a huge dragon and watching it smash to the earth in a mad fit of blood and flame. Damn, that would be kool...
