Look at this Mexican web page (sorry it's in Spanish):

Amazing Videogames

According to them, Playmore is developing a new Neo Geo hardware, and the last games coming for MVS are New Power Instinct 3 and Metal Slug 5!
The first game to be launched for this new system would be KOF 2003.
I don't know what to think, but as you can read in their page they say it is a confirmed information.

A new MVS makes my heart flutter. In a good way.

That site seems to have lots of on the spot info, and isn't a rommy heaven, so I'll believe them for now.

But I'll take it with a grain of salt, and not believe it 100%.

/me smells another Crystal System.

However, it will help to have a major title like KOF on it. They should axe that idea and just make games for systems already in place.. Naomi 2, etc.. Worked for Sega on the console side of things, why wouldnt it work for PM on the arcade side..

Well, I can't say I 100% believe it, but I don't think this is a bad idea at all. I still have tons of MVS games to enjoy, and with a new system coming out, that would mean good stuff in the future as well (I hope at least). So although I am skeptical of it right now, I kind of hope this does come true!

Maybe this is why we have no info on SNK vs Capcom and KOF 2K3.

I love the Neo to death, but it is very outdated. I would really like to see a new system, but in todays arcade marketplace it just wouldn't be wise. The best option would be for Playmore to develope for an arcade platform that is already in existance. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEEP IT 2-D!!!

What is Guilty Gear X running on? That system would do just fine graphicly for whatever Playmore has to throw at it. I really hope they don't develope for the Naomi, it's a step in the wrong direction developing for a dead system.

Whatever hapens keep your fingers crossed.

Thats actually funny that you said that. If I'm not mistaken Guilty Gear X was developed on the Naomi hardware.

Well I heard this rumor before about Playmore developing their own new hardware. I asked the source about why not just go develop games on a good 2D arcade system like the Naomi and according to him Playmore does not want to pay the license fee's to Sega or whoever else for each game. Hence they make their own hardware.

As for it being another Crystal System? I highly doubt it, I mean look at what the CS had for it? A soccer game and Crystal of Kings. That is NOT going to go over well in arcades dominated by DDR and Fighting games. With games like KOF and possibly SNK vs. Capcom (I actually was hoping for this on MVS) on the new MVS or whatever, it would give it a great chance of being adopted.

Peace

Naomi is not Dead!!!!!!!!!!

Great games were Released Recently.Guilty Gear XX,Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution,Maze of The kings,King Of route 66 and Many more are home on the Naomi With More great games still planned out.I wouldnt hold this system down one bit.For more info on Sega Naomi and more Arcade machines and Namco,Taito and Konami History Visit System 16 Arcade MuseumI think Playmore should just make games on Naomi and Not worry about Hardware where they will probally lose money and pull a Hyper 64.R.I.P Snk And lets hope the Company Whoring your soul doesn't kill it entirely for us.At least we have a MVS back catalog 150 deep.We can at least pray until The big 3 Nintendo,M$,And SONY Kill off 2d gaming totally.

I agree with you, and I think the Crystal System would have had much wider distro and response if it had some major SNK licenses on it. I mean, put MS5 on Crystal System, or KOF, and it would have been huge. Instead we got two mediocre games at best... not the way to sell a new system. I think you are right though, Naomi or Naomi2 would be a much better choice for Playmore, but we will see how this all turns out.

Here is a thought to ponder with A new arcade platform.Could Playmore look to Cornering hardcore 2D gamers. What im trying to say Will there also be a New Playmore Produced NEO GEO Home Machine.Lets hope If they Do not go with the naomi. And decide to make new hardware they release it to us home players as well.I own a Naomi 1 and 2 and Gd rom,2 Neo 4 slots And would be happy to add another cabinet for some new hardware. But save me some space and release A AES Next or something like that. And why don't they make some new Neo Pocket games also.Playmore if I had 100 million dollars your liscenses and A few people with ideas.I would be doing something with it.Wake up and smell the money.More things to do Include porting Metal Slug 3 on to a system people will actually play it.Many a Ps2 owner will pass Metal Slug 3 over for Soul Calibur 2 march 27th.I mean put the damn thing on DREAMCAST a System which people actually will buy the game.Speaking of dreamcast isnt that and the Naomi pretty much identical. If you can port Games to A dreamcast you can produce Original Software for Naomi.I do not think the Liscense fees would be much to pay.Crap I would pay them for you.If the right descisions are not Made we could see the end of a legacy.Lets try to KEEP IT ALIVE

Either way, a new home system would never come out of this.

A new system sounds great to me, but if they stick with nothing, but 2D it may not survive. I am a big fan of 2D games and the NEO, but the mass market does not seem to be. I guess only time will tell. If a home system did come out of this would it not be great if they made it compatible with the NGH games and CD games?

I don't know if that is entirely true. Playmore knows there is a HUGE home user base. Fans that are willing to pay a starting price of $350 for a game... up to thousands of dollars. This is a market that could make them a lot of money if played correctly. Limited runs of systems and games, using the same hardware they are already using for the arcade (just make the different carts, that was brilliant... and allow all the same ROMS to be used....) and you have a solid money machine. I think Playmore knows this, that is why there are still home carts being released today.

I'd almost rather they didn't. We have the AES already, no need to revisit the past and add expensive hardware to the mix just for backwards compatibility. I would rather them focus on moving ahead then looking to the past. The AES and MVS will always be here, if you want to play those... then play those. If Playmore is really planning a new machine, I hope it is new from the ground up, and sure 2D should be king, but 3D wouldn't hurt, you could add some cool effects to 2D games that way :)

Looks like it'll be the end of the AES releases if it's true. And probably the premature end of a newborn system ( if it ever comes out ).

Be honest to yourselves, you guys are only supporting playmore because they are releasing games for the AES. When they'll stop doing that, they'll drop into nothingness and nobody will care anymore about them. I think it'll be the majority opinion.

I wouldn't mind a Hyper Neo Geo 128 system. It would be cartridge based I hope. I don't know about you guys but I hate CDs and DVDs. They may be cheaper and can hold more data but I love the feel of a big fat cartridge between my fingers. I am sure that many of you feel the same way.

Well I suppose the death of the Neo is inevitable, nothing lasts forever.

I would hope they make the new system backwards compatible with the Neo Geo, jut like nintendo does with its Gameboy franchise. I'd buy it straight away, if they made a home version.

If they do incorporate 3d graphics into it (highly likley, as 2d only systems don't sell big nowdays), lets just hope they keep the gameplay 2d, like what Capcom did with its fighting franchises, and make beautiful 3d backgrounds.

Well I will be a proud member of the minority then. If Playmore can get us new hardware, and continues to develope the old SNK licenses and creates new and unique games... Then sign me up. I would love to see a high res KOF or MS. I would love to see some stuff that couldn't be done on the current hardware (like a music game akin to Cool Cool Toon), I would happily support that... and I am sure I am not alone here. Some of you are still caught up in the SNK/Playmore name game. Fuck that, I don't support SNK cause of those three letters, not at all. I play Neo Geo becuase it has great games. If Playmore or whoever makes a new system and great games come out for it, then I will be there playing it. Simple as that man. Sure I love SNK, but they are nothing more than a memory and some great games. So get over it.

And if there is new hardware that is doing new and cool things, it will not only attract new players, but new developers as well, so we could see some cool third party stuff in the future. If this is true, and handled correctly (not Hyper 64 like, or Crystal System like) we could see the birth of the next great arcade system.

same here. it's sound maybe stupid but I hate moving parts. I prefer much more a big cart and a non-noisy and strong build system.

you're gonna laugh but i mostly liked and suppported the N64 for that.

Don't know about you guys, but if PLAYMORE ever did come out with a new home system (backwards compatible or not)...

I'd buy it.

It's a fair request, but from a money making perspective, they would make much more if they made it CD or DVD based. Especially since DVD players now can have lots of cache and load incredibly fast... or it could be like the Naomi GD-ROM. Basicly it loads the contents of the CD into memory, so the CD is merely distro and the game is copied to the unit.... this would save Playmore tons of money on game production and would allow for much higher profits on game sales. I love carts as well, they are damn reliable and very cool to boot :) , but if I was making a new system, I would probably use a cheaper medium, especially today where we have a lot of cool options.
